Navigate high school's pressures while uncovering mysteries in From Misfortune Comes. As you carry a tragic legacy, decisions will define whether you rise or fall in this gripping simulation from Heroic Spirit Games.
About this game
From Misfortune Comes is an open-world life-sim RPG about starting from the bottom—and we're trying to make every part of that climb matter.
Get an education. Find a career and climb the corporate ladder. Train your body, master new skills, make friends, fall in love, start a family, and buy back and restore your family home—or ditch your legacy and build a new one.
Explore Melián, meet its people, build lasting bonds, discover unexpected opportunities, and shape your place in the city.
Risk your life for wealth, rare items, and supernatural power. Learn magic, grow stronger, and bring back things that can change your everyday life.
Chase wealth, love, knowledge, status, or power. Build a family. Become someone important. Or go completely off the rails and start your own cult where you're the deity.
MAKE THE MUNDANE MATTER
We want the small victories to feel as meaningful as the extraordinary ones.
There's satisfaction in getting your first job, learning how to do it well, and eventually earning a promotion.
In studying for an exam and watching your place in the school rankings climb.
In finally having enough spare money to repair that broken part of your house.
In training your body and actually seeing yourself change.
In walking into a shop you've never visited before and discovering something you couldn't afford a month ago.
In talking to a neighbor, classmate, or coworker on an ordinary afternoon and slowly becoming involved in their life.
In meeting someone you love and, perhaps, eventually building a life together.
We want all of these things to be progression.
Your body can be cultivated. Your house can be cultivated. Your education, career, relationships, skills, reputation, finances, and magic can all be cultivated.
The goal is to make the mundane as rewarding to develop as the extraordinary.
TWO WORLDS. ONE LIFE.
There is something strange going on in Melián.
What starts as an intense manual labor job soon turns into something much more.
People are disappearing. Familiar places are beginning to change, strange incidents are becoming harder to explain, and there are signs that something is happening beneath the surface of Melián.
As time progresses, you'll have the opportunity to follow these threads and uncover the mystery—or let events unfold without your intervention.
We're building two fully realized worlds that exist alongside one another. We consider From Misfortune Comes a two-world RPG: one where you can focus heavily on either side of Che's life, or embrace everything both have to offer.
Neither is meant to feel like a side activity attached to the "real" game. We want both to feel like games substantial enough to stand on their own—and then connect them.
BECOME PART OF OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES
The people of Melián have lives of their own, with or without you.
Explore the city and get to know its neighborhoods, businesses, hidden corners, and the people who inhabit them. Learn what they like, what they dream of, what they're struggling with, and how you fit into their lives.
We don't want characters to exist simply to hand you quests. We want you to be able to become part of their lives.
Your choices can influence their stories, change their circumstances, and have serious consequences. Build friendships, flirt with the girls you like, go on dates, fall in love, and pursue relationships that can grow far beyond high school—even into building a family together.
With more than 50 character storylines and over 100 girls to meet and romance, we're building a social world where there's always another person to meet, another story to discover, and another relationship that could take your life somewhere different.
And Melián doesn't stand still while you do it. Experience four distinct seasons, bringing new weather, holidays, festivals, events, opportunities, changing schedules, and evolving character stories.
KEY FEATURES
A massive, handcrafted world to live in. We're building Melián from the street level up. Explore nearly 12 kilometers of dense, handcrafted city, enter every building, visit every store, discover hidden places, learn the city's history, and get to know the people who call it home. Follow almost anyone you meet and discover their routines, problems, and stories.
Hundreds of hours of life to build. Live through Che's day-to-day in high school, and play through Endless Mode if you want the game to go on forever! How you spend your time—and what you ultimately become—is up to you.
Dozens of stories and over 100 girls to meet and romance. Learn who they are, flirt, date, fall in love, influence their lives, and pursue relationships that can eventually lead to starting a family.
Make ordinary life part of the RPG. Study, climb the school rankings, work 15+ jobs and career paths, earn promotions, train your body, manage your money, improve your home, join clubs, play sports, and build your place in society.
Explore multiple sprawling Dungeons. Large environments meant to be explored repeatedly and deeply, filled with enemies, secrets, resources, equipment, characters, and increasingly dangerous opportunities.
Master dozens of spells. Discover magic across different elements and disciplines, develop your skill tree, improve your attributes, find powerful equipment, and continually expand what your character is capable of.
Watch an entire world change around you. Experience four seasons with dynamic weather, holidays, festivals, events, changing schedules, new opportunities, and evolving character stories.
Play together in 2-player co-op. Share the same world while building your own lives, pursuing different goals, and competing—or working together—to see where they take you.
Everything connects. Your education, career, wealth, home, appearance, relationships, reputation, physical abilities, and supernatural progression aren't meant to exist as isolated systems. Progress in one part of your life can transform another.
A game that keeps growing. The scale of From Misfortune Comes is a major part of what excites us. We want to keep expanding its world, characters, systems, stories, activities, and possibilities as the project develops and beyond release.

A NOTE FROM HEROIC SPIRIT GAMES
We are Heroic Spirit Games, a small independent studio of only a handful of people, founded around a simple idea: make the games we desperately want to play.
For years, we waited for someone to make the kind of game we wanted. Eventually, we realized we could keep waiting—or try to build it ourselves.
From Misfortune Comes is our first attempt, and we're deliberately attempting something ambitious.
We're trying to build a huge world you can actually live in. A life simulator where the mundane matters. An RPG where progression extends beyond combat. A city filled with people whose lives you can become part of. Two substantial worlds connected into one game. Hundreds of hours of things to discover, improve, pursue, and become.
This would be an ambitious project for a team many times our size. We're building it with a handful of people.
We don't have the resources of a massive studio. There will be rough edges. Systems will change as we learn. Things will be rebuilt. Some ideas will work better than others, and we will make mistakes along the way.
But we'd rather find out how far we can push this idea than make the safer game a team our size is supposed to make.
Development has already taught us an enormous amount, and From Misfortune Comes has grown alongside us. Our goal is to build Heroic Spirit Games into a studio capable of making increasingly ambitious games without losing the mindset that brought us here in the first place.
If From Misfortune Comes is the kind of game you've also spent years waiting for someone to attempt, we hope you'll come along for the journey.
Thank you for believing in what we're trying to build.

Dev Update September 2026
Hey everyone! We’re still working hard and wanted to share some of the progress our team has made recently across Level Design, Functionality, and Character Design.Little by little, we’re bringing the game we’ve dreamed of to life.LEVEL DESIGNNew tree variations throughout the city. Buenos Aires is defined heavily by its tree-lined streets, so we’ve been expanding the variety of trees used across Melián to make different neighborhoods feel less repetitive and more natural.Improved tree performance and visuals. Tree LODs have been refined so distant vegetation uses less processing power, while tree textures have been converted to Virtual Textures to help manage memory more efficiently across the open world.More natural wind behavior for vegetation. We’ve improved our Tree materials and added new controls that allow us to fine-tune how branches and leaves react to wind, helping different tree species feel less uniform.Improved tree lighting and translucency. Sunlight now passes through foliage more naturally, producing smoother transitions between light and shadow instead of overly harsh or artificial-looking tree shadows.Improved volumetric lighting for streetlights. Night-time lighting has received another pass, particularly around lamps and other light sources. This helps give Melián a stronger atmosphere after dark while making individual streets and buildings stand out more naturally.Continued development of the dungeon mining area. We’ve been expanding the cave formations, mineral deposits, lighting, and environmental layout. Resources are being integrated more naturally into the rock itself rather than simply appearing as isolated collectible objects.Further work on the dungeon atmosphere. We’re continuing to develop a mixture of constructed underground spaces and natural caves, using darkness, fire, glowing minerals, and environmental landmarks to make exploration feel more mysterious.Refinement of commercial areas throughout Melián. We’ve continued improving ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Haki)Patch NotesOfficial
