Forgotten Eras Weekly Update #4
Presenting DomovoyDomovoy is the household spirit of Slavic tradition, protector of the family hearth. He is kind to those who respect the home, leaving small blessings of warmth and safety. Yet he is quick to anger if forgotten, turning to mischief or vengeance.Once the unseen guardian by the fire, his laughter and whispers guided families through the dark nights. But when corrupted by strange magic, his protective spirit twists into something far more dangerous. In Forgotten Eras, Domovoy has been corrupted by magic and it is up to Ivan to break that corruption. In combat, he shifts between phases of protection and hostility: he can shield himself with runic fire, summon animated household objects, or twist the battlefield by plunging the area into darkness. His behavior depends on Ivan’s progress and choices, embodying the tragedy of a guardian spirit consumed by magic. The Vodyanoy Totem In Slavic Folklore Vodyanoy is a water spirit, feared as ruler of rivers and lakes. He often lures souls into the depths. In Forgotten Eras the Vodyanoy Totem acts as a marker for cursed waters. On the totem Vodyanoy appears with scaled shoulders, a flowing beard and aquatic patterns that symbolize his dominion over water and hidden dangers. Conclusion This week’s updates provide a cleaner view of the world of Forgotten Eras with a glimpse of characters and objects around the game. Forgotten Eras Weekly Update #2
Another week of development on Forgotten Eras brings a closer look at the world we are building, from the creatures and mythology that shape its identity to the environments that give it atmosphere. This week, we shared three pieces of content: a 3D look at the Gray Wolf Totem, concept art for Svarog, the God of Light, and an ambient video showcasing the game's environment. The Gray Wolf TotemWe shared a new look at the Gray Wolf Totem, one of the 3D assets taking shape in Forgotten Eras. The totem draws from the game's Slavic-inspired mythology and the symbolism of the wolf, an important presence in the world of Ivan and the Gray Wolf. Through its design, we continue exploring how the game's lore can be expressed not only through storytelling, but also through the objects and structures found throughout its environments. Svarog, God of Light We also revealed concept art for Svarog, the God of Light.Concept art gives us the opportunity to explore the visual identity of the gods and the mythology behind them before those ideas move further into development. Svarog's design is another step in shaping the divine forces that inhabit the world of Forgotten Eras. A Glimpse into the Atmosphere To close out the week's updates, we shared an ambient video of one of the game's environments.Beyond the characters, creatures, and mythology, atmosphere is a major part of what we want Forgotten Eras to feel like. The environments are being developed to create a sense of mystery, immersion, and discovery, giving players a world that feels worth exploring.Until Next Week Every new asset, concept, and environment brings us one step closer to the world we want to create. We will continue sharing more of Forgotten Eras as development progresses.Follow Forgotten Eras on Steam to stay up to date with future development updates and announcements.Read full article on Community Announcements (katerinapouspourika)Community & EventsOfficial
Art, Atmosphere and Community Choices
Last week was a big one for Forgotten Eras. The project has started showing its true shape not just through prototypes and code but through the world, the characters and the identity that will carry the game forward. We shared a handful of updates that represent different sides of development: character concept art, creature designs, a fresh look at our evolving environment, and even a set of potential logos for the community to vote on. Seeing everyone react to Avena, Morana, the Gray Wolf, and the cinematic environment preview reminded us why we love building this world. Every piece of art, every frame of atmosphere, every design choice becomes more meaningful when we share it with you. And now, with the logo vote underway, you’re helping shape the game’s identity directly. This devlog gathers everything from last week into one place. It’s a snapshot of where Forgotten Eras is heading and a small celebration of the creative momentum behind it. Avena’s Design Avena was one of the highlights of last week’s updates, and for good reason. She’s a character who carries both strength and vulnerability, and capturing that balance in her concept art in 3D model has been a rewarding challenge. This design explores her silhouette, her cultural influences, and the emotional tone she brings into Forgotten Eras. In the slavic folklore the rusalka is a restless female water nymph. In our game Forgotten Eras Rusalka or Avena is the daughter of Vodyanoy, a mermaid of simmering magic and gentle spirit who falls in love with Ivan Tsarevich who loves her back. But alas their love is forbidden! Inspiration for creating the concept art of Avena was taken by folklore texts as well as old art found in old books and fairytales! The concept art is the foundation of her identity. The way she moves through the world, the symbolism woven into her clothing, and the quiet determination in her expression. This version of Avena already reflects the direction we’re excited about. We are especially ...Read full article on Community Announcements (katerinapouspourika)AnnouncementsOfficial
Meet the Grey Wolf: One of Forgotten Eras' Most Important Characters
If you've read The Tale as Told by the Fire, you already know that something awakens the moment Ivan Tsarevich puts on the ancient headband. A distant howl echoes through the forest, answering a call that has been silent for centuries. That howl belongs to the Grey Wolf.Today we'd like to introduce one of the central characters of Forgotten Eras, and the Slavic legend that inspired him.The Grey Wolf in Slavic FolkloreUnlike the wolves commonly found in Western fairy tales, the Grey Wolf of Slavic folklore is rarely portrayed as a villain. In Russian and Slavic tales, he is a magical guide, a protector, and a creature of immense wisdom. The most famous example comes from the story of Ivan Tsarevich and the Grey Wolf. After eating Ivan's horse, the wolf offers to help the prince continue his journey. From that point onward, he becomes Ivan's loyal companion, carrying him across impossible distances, outwitting enemies, and using supernatural abilities, including shapeshifting, to help him complete his quest. One lesson appears again and again throughout the story: when Ivan follows the Grey Wolf's advice, he succeeds. When he ignores it, things quickly go wrong. The Grey Wolf is not just strong. He is wise.A Guardian Between WorldsIn Slavic mythology, wolves often represent the boundary between civilization and the untamed wilderness. They are creatures that belong to neither world completely, making them natural guardians of hidden places and ancient secrets. Rather than symbolizing evil, they often embody instinct, balance, and knowledge that humans have forgotten. This interpretation became one of the biggest inspirations for the Grey Wolf in Forgotten Eras. Our InterpretationIn Forgotten Eras, the Grey Wolf is far more than a companion. Before the Pact between gods and mortals was completed, Veles left behind three living threads of fate to preserve the balance of the world should it ever be threatened. The Grey Wolf is one of those threads. For centuries he remained asleep,...Read full article on Community Announcements (katerinapouspourika)
