Terra Firma 2 invites you to sculpt expansive terrains in an indie strategy game where nature shapes your creations. Witness the lifecycle of plants and creatures as weather and erosion transform your world from a blank slate into a thriving ecosystem.
About this game
Terra Firma 2 is a powerful simulation of natural forces, giving you the creative freedom to sculpt entire worlds to your liking. Use intuitive tools to alter terrain, adjust rainfall, change temperatures, and tweak tectonic activity.
Your changes set the stage, but the simulation takes over—generating lifelike rivers, eroding mountains, growing forests, and populating ecosystems down to individual plants and animals.
Harnessing the full power of modern GPUs, Terra Firma 2 simulates worlds at an unprecedented scale. Maps can span up to 16,000 km², simulating centuries of natural evolution in seconds, all while allowing you to zoom in to observe wildlife and terrain changes in real time.
Raise and Lower Tectonic Plates
Simulate the slow but powerful forces that shape continents. With full tectonic modeling, you can create convergent boundaries that build towering mountain ranges, divergent ones that split the land into rift valleys, and transform boundaries shift massive landmasses.
Experiment with Dynamic Ecosystems
Life in Terra Firma 2 emerges organically based on the world you create. Plants and animals respond to local conditions such as moisture, temperature, and elevation, resulting in rich ecosystems that feel alive. From boreal forests to mangroves, deserts to alpine tundra, the variety is shaped entirely by your choices.
Alter the Environment with Complete Climate Control
Take command of world’s climate with the ability to modify rainfall and temperature to create seasonal variations. Melt the snowcaps off the tallest mountain and watch the water flow down to raise the water level, or change the rainfall to see different biomes flourish.
Worlds created in Terra Firma 2 are able to be saved, loaded, and exported to other systems, either as heightmaps or via an exporter to your favourite voxel based game.

Terra Firma 2 Disasters Update
Greetings worldbuilders! The first full update to Terra Firma 2 since release last year is now complete. This update adds a variety of disasters, each providing a unique way to interact with and modify your creations.MeteorsChoose the size and speed then fling your space rocks ranging from (relatively) tiny blips all the way up to dinosaur killers that will completely remake the surface of your world.VolcanoesVolcanoes erupt over time, building mountains and then ending with the caldera collapsing. Customise the type of lava to produce mountains with gentle or steep slopes. Watch volcanic islands rise from the ocean and then erode back into atolls.FloodsTrigger gigantic floods that wash away everything in their path.TsunamisMove massive amounts of ocean water around and watch the resulting waves wash across the landscape.EarthquakesWarp and transform the landscape with earthquakes featuring customisable fault direction, horizontal and vertical slip amounts.Water PhysicsThe water physics has been overhauled with more realistic flows for large bodies of water and ocean water now fully simulated. Sea levels can now be raised or lowered to explore a variety of different terraforming scenarios. A new configuration option makes water prefer to not run off the edge of the map.Keep simulating when zoomedYou can now enable and disable the zoomed in detail view. When disabled, the simulation will keep running at any zoom level allowing you to closely inspect the landscape as it evolves. Other improvementsAdded a new erosion speed that can be set to any value you wantAdded a visual display of current temperatureSignificant rework to dirt, rock and lava makes properly conical landforms rather than the square ones seen previouslyNew groundwater simulation for better distribution of swamps and marshes, and plant growth in desert areasImproved simulation of grass growth cyclesLighting options are now saved when changedAdded hotkeys for different camera modesMany performance impro...Read full article on Community Announcements (mehwoot)AnnouncementsOfficial
Meteors feature in Beta Testing
Greetings worldbuilders! The next major update for Terra Firma 2 is now available to test on the beta branch. This update features a long awaited feature- the ability to crash meteors into your worlds! Choose the size and speed then fling your space rocks ranging from (relatively) tiny blips all the way up to dinosaur killers that will completely remake the surface of your world. We've also listened to feedback and added a button to toggle the world zoom detail on and off. When zoomed detail is off, the simulation will continue running at all zoom levels, allowing you to closely inspect your worlds as they evolve. Other fixes:Minecraft export now uses fractional water levels for smoother water renderingFixed glitches on map boundaries in Minecraft exportsFixed water glitches in Minecraft exports~38% reduction in GPU memory used, allowing larger map sizes without crashing on some computersFixed bug with plant billboard renderingFixed bug with hovering buildings in campaign mode with UI scales other than 100%Fixed bug with checks on road building costs in campaign mode not reflecting actual costsFixed bug with lava and volcanoes not working properly on Large and Huge mapsVarious performance improvementsRead full article on Community Announcements (mehwoot)Patch NotesOfficial
Update notes for 29th May
Added new erosion speed with configurable value Added configuration setting for whether sea level changes the temperature Added configuration setting for whether ocean water rises when editing land under it Fixed serious performance issues on Nvidia cards introduced in previous update Overall simulation ~10% better performance, much better performance when zoomed in on trees Minecraft exports now feature water with fractional heights Fixed exporting Minecraft worlds with custom sea levels Fixed rendering issue with topographic and other data overlays at map edges Fixed behaviour on map edges where dirt would form a barrier Temperature map now properly updates when game is paused and at game start Fixed dirt/sand display on map load when paused Fixed bug with sea levels above 0m not saving/loading properly Fixed bug with shrubs not appearing when sea levels are lowered Fixed bug with cold rocks rendering differently to warm ones Fixed sand and dirt coverage in Minecraft export Fixed grass coverage in Minecraft export Fixed bug with water disappearing after earthquake Limited ice height to prevent buggy behaviour Fixed heightmap export when image dimensions are lower than world dimensions Fixed bug with earthquake arrows direction when slip is negative Fixed bug with ocean water heights not being saved/loaded properlynRead full article on Community Announcements (mehwoot)Patch NotesOfficial
