About this game
DEVELOPMENT HIATUS - APRIL 2026
WE'LL BE BACK!!
We've recently made the difficult decision to pause development of Die For The Lich. It's painful to see new reviews claiming the game is "abandoned" - but we knew there would be backlash to this announcement, and understand that it feeds into many negative perceptions around Early Access. We have no desire to hide from our fans or ghost anyone who has supported us, and feel it is best to communicate honestly.
Early sales came up short of our projections (likely due to the initial Mixed reception) which forced us to reassess our Early Access runway. The options were (1) push out something half-baked and move on, or (2) put things on a hiatus until a new plan can be made. We chose the latter, which is in our mind the much more customer-friendly version. The delays is frustrating, I know. But I am certain that would be preferred over having paid for something that never gets finished.
However, the financials were not the only consideration, otherwise this could be resolved by further publisher support. Die For The Lich is made by two brother who don't live in the same city, don't get to see each other in person very often, and felt that their relationship had become only game development after 1.5 years of grinding. I empathize with their need to recharge, and feel that these two deserve room to be brothers-first for a little while before returning to this project.
Whatever the next game is under the Monovoid name, it will likely be done either solo or with a new collaborator. This gives the boys a chance to spend quality time together without drowning in development decisions. They can explore their individual creativity and expand their skills, then come back together stronger for Die For The Lich!
We apologize for this detour, and the ways in which it lets our fans down. This is our promise that the game WILL be finished as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
-Graeme

Project Status Update
Hey everyone,We’re bringing some heavy news today.Die For the Lich is in a development hiatus...tl;dr Development of Die For The Lich has spun out into something much larger than we had originally accounted for. The time and money we've put into the game has been a strain financially, as well as personally. It feels like the 2 of us haven't had a non-development related conversation in 18 months, which is difficult for 2 brothers who rarely get to see each other in person. We need time to rest, reconnect and to evaluate what comes next. We are incredibly sorry to put our fans in this position, and cannot thank you enough for your support. Hopefully you can empathize with our need to recharge, and that you will still be here when we are ready to return to development! We’ve loved working on this game, but after a year and a half of development, it has finally taken a toll. Working on this game for this long was never the plan which is often the case in game development, but that’s not an excuse. We hoped to release around this time, but with how much work is still left, it’s simply not possible. When we first started working on this game, we were just happy to collaborate and make a small dice-rolling game about fighting undead creatures. As development continued, the game grew, and eventually we secured funding to bring it to Early Access, which was a huge milestone for us.As the scope expanded, so did the goals and expectations, but our mindset remained the same: it was still the small dice-rolling game to us. In the long run, that mismatch hurt us. In hindsight, we should have kept development shorter and treated the project as a learning experience in project and expectation management, rather than trying to turn it into a complex, highly balanced game.We had hoped that Early Access would bring in enough support to carry the game forward, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. We invested a significant amount of time, our own money, and even brought in a publisher...Read full article on Community Announcements (Monovoid)Patch NotesOfficial

New boss, enemies, items and a farewell to abyss dice... v0.10!
v0.10 is LIVE NOW!So what's new?New bossWe have a new boss that will randomly spawn instead of Vetala in Act 2.Ifrit a powerful demonic creature inspired by Islamic culture often related to Djinns. New Djinn enemies will help him in his battle against you. As you may know Djinns act as weapon curses in Die for the Lich, so be prepared for a new type of curse as well.New enemiesDjinns are not the only new enemy, we also bring some Asia inspired creatures like Penanaggala, vampiric creature that takes the form of a floating disembodied woman's head, with its organs and entrails trailing from its neck. We also bring Amanojaku a small demon or a yokai born from the syncretism of Buddhist, Chinese, and Shinto traditions, symbolizing contrariness and human desireAbyss Dice are removedSay farewell to Abyss Dice. 👋We had a lot of complaints about the Abyss Dice in ACT 3 and we have decided to finally get rid of them. It seems like it made the game a bit more slow and just not as enjoyable. This has been the biggest criticism we have gotten since we released in Early Access. We tried all kinds of solutions but it never really felt right, so this decision did not come lightly. We have also reworked the Abyss Buff, hopefully ACT 3 will only feel benefit from this change.New gearTwo new weapons, a die and a trinketTwo new weapons join the hunt for the Lich. Earth Whip and Iron Grip, one of them is already unlocked and ready to slay some poor shucks. We also added a new die and a trinket. Since the Abyss Dice are gone now we had to include another die to replace it in your collection. Don't worry this one will not be as annoying to draw.New abilityDo you like coins? Good, we have an ability designed for those who LOVE coins. It basically functions very similar to Dante's ability but this one uses coins, so if you've been enjoying Dante you might enjoy him even more now.New UI?Something that has bothered us from day 1 is that you cannot really tell what dice you're allowed to roll a...Read full article on Community Announcements (Monovoid)AnnouncementsOfficial
New Version OUT for Beta Testing!
We're officially opening our Beta branch to the public! Why?We’ve been very busy building the game, and our current beta testers have been playing a huge role in shaping it by finding bugs, sharing feedback, and helping us improve each update before release. Still, development moves fast, and testing everything thoroughly takes time.By opening the beta to more players, we’re giving you the chance to directly influence how the game evolves and help us deliver a more stable, polished experience with every update. How does it work? We’ll be releasing frequent beta updates, usually about once a week. These builds are intentionally unfinished and experimental, which means things may break, balance may be off, and bugs will absolutely sneak in, and that’s exactly the point. As a beta tester, you’ll get early access to upcoming content and features while helping us test new dice, trinkets, weapons, abilities, enemies, and bosses. Your feedback will actively help shape balance decisions, design tweaks, and overall polish before each update goes live. How do I join? You'll need to go to your Steam's Library and find Die for the Lich. Find your way to the game's properties... Then go to Game Versions & Betas. In the Private Versions field type BetaRollingDice123 and click Check Code. Now make sure you have ticked the beta-test button. Congratulations you're now officially a Beta Tester!P.S. Make sure you go back to the default version if you want to play the public version. How can I help?Report bugs! You can go to our discord and post bugs in the bugs-forums. You can also do it in game by pressing the Report a Bug button in the main menu. We also have a Steam discussions post for bug reporting. So you found a bug, what should you do? Create a post. The post report should include the version of the game when the bug appeared (top right corner in-game).Write a short explanation on what was happening before the bug.(Optional) Screenshot if you think that helps.(Optional) Write a simple s...Read full article on Community Announcements (Monovoid)
