Greetings to all the lost souls out there! In the last two blogs, we talked in detail about PvP in our game and today we’re dedicating ourselves to the topic one final time. Before we go into the specific changes, we want to make one thing clear: Even though PvP plays an important role in our game, no one is forced to participate. If you realize after the tutorial that PvP isn’t for you, you can simply disable it. PvP is and will remain optional. For those who enjoy competing with others, we’ve made some important improvements: We love games with great depth, but depth shouldn’t come at the cost of clarity. That’s why we’ve reworked the PvP system to be easier to understand. Our goal was for you to always be able to tell: Why did I win or lose? However, one of the biggest challenges lay elsewhere: Originally, PvP was designed to offer experienced players a lasting, meaningful challenge. At the same time, we were concerned that defeats might feel too frustrating, and as a result, we softened the system too much. The outcome: PvP felt more like just another PvE component. We have fundamentally changed that. We no longer see losing as a problem, but as an important part of the player experience. A run no longer ends immediately upon death. Instead, you are sent back to the previous shop phase and receive additional resources to start a new attempt. Only if you lose five rounds within a run is it considered failed. Does this system sound familiar? {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45354938/2a278f945b6dd9e8683d2906850ed0d03e275758.png Since a single death no longer means immediate failure, we were also able to significantly strengthen the PvP opponent. Fights are now once again what they are meant to be: true duels against an assigned opponent - if you don’t react to the other player’s strategy, you will lose. With this step, we’re not only improving the PvP system, but also creating an even more unique experience that can’t be found in any other game. That’s it for today. We’re lookin...Read full article on Community Announcements (4xo_Ron)AnnouncementsOfficial

Hello everyone! As promised, we’re already back today, this time taking a closer look at one of the most important places in our game: the Well of Souls. At first glance, it might seem like an ordinary well. But anyone who approaches it quickly realizes that something very different is happening here. This well is not meant for drawing water; instead, it serves as a gateway to the realm of the dead, a place where the souls of the deceased begin their final journey. Under normal circumstances, this passage works in only one direction: souls leave the world of the living and pass through the well into the realm of the dead. For generations, the well has ensured that this process happens calmly and in an orderly way. For the people of this world, it is therefore a sacred place. A symbol of farewell, but also of the natural cycle of life. But at the beginning of our story, this balance begins to falter. Due to the events you experience right at the start of the game, the well becomes destabilized. The result: instead of only receiving souls, it suddenly begins releasing them again. Countless spirits escape from the depths and flow back into the world of the living. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45354938/c8830d2746aff4fdddcd27a10bce04e2482afe9c.gif Your task is to defeat these spirits in combat and return their restless souls to the Well of Souls. There, you will have the opportunity to revisit past encounters with other players and take a look at their equipment, builds, and strategies. In this way, the well becomes not only a narrative element of the world, but also an important multiplayer feature that allows you to learn from your encounters and better prepare for future battles. We’re looking forward to sharing more insights into the world and the systems of our game with you soon!Read full article on Community Announcements (4xo_Ron)AnnouncementsOfficial

Hello everyone!First of all, we’d like to wish you a happy new year! We hope you got through the holidays well and made it into the new year without too many starting difficulties. Our last update was a few days ago, and a lot has happened since then. Instead of overwhelming you with everything at once, we’ll be sharing upcoming changes and improvements step by step in regular devblogs. So stay tuned! We’ve already mentioned the topic of today’s blog: starting difficulties.During the development of Survivor of Egypt, our focus has always been on creating a game with deep mechanics that allow – or even encourage – hours of tinkering and planning. We’ve now reached a point where we’re confident we’ve achieved that goal. That’s exactly why we want to shift our focus to the opposite side of the experience: the first turns and the getting-to-know-the-game phase.Because we’ve realized that a depth even the Grand Canyon would be jealous of doesn’t help much if it isn’t understandable for everyone. For this reason, we’ve invested a lot of time into developing a system that explains the game from start to finish, covering all the options available to you as a player. At the same time, it was important to us to preserve your freedom and avoid building a simple “press the glowing button” tutorial. The most important aspect here is the order in which our features are unlocked. Instead of explaining everything at once, one new feature is now introduced per round. This gives you enough time to get familiar with each mechanic before moving on to the next one.In the end, we want not only genre veterans to feel at home, but everyone who appreciates a great gameplay experience! To make sure this remains the case, we also started our first playtests this year. If you’re interested in becoming one of our early testers, feel free to join our Discord server and let us know!Let’s move on to a sneak peek for the next devblog: After we’ve explained the most important elements of the combat and m...Read full article on Community Announcements (4xo_Ron)AnnouncementsOfficial

Hello, some time has passed since our last meeting, and we haven’t been idle. In the past few weeks, a lot has happened in the project, and we’re excited to share with you today a build update. The version you last saw is now about a month old (07/04/25), and since then, numerous new assets, features, and improvements have been added to further sharpen the gameplay experience. Our goal was to integrate the multiplayer mode, significantly enhance the user interface, and provide players with more options during combat to develop the best battle strategy for their inventory. Everything you find in this email is part of the build we’ll be showcasing at this year’s Gamescom—perfect for getting an early look at the new features. From August 20th to 22nd, we will be showcasing SoE at Gamescom Business Area on the SAXONY communal stand. The player can now compete against other players in PVP and attempt to defeat them in combat. If they succeed in reducing the opponent’s health points to zero, the player receives ghost souls. These can be exchanged at the new Ghost Smith for powerful abilities (for example, it’s possible to steal an item from the PvP opponent). In preparation for the duel, during the merchant phase the opponent’s inventory, character, and status values are viewable. In the combat phase, their actions and status values—such as shield and health points—are displayed in real time and enhanced with new VFX.There are many new items. Among them is the new category: "Divine Items". These are very rare but far stronger than legendary items and identifiable by their ominous red coloring. You can now also collect items within a round, e.g. from treasure piles, to find gemstones and combine them with rings in the shop. Additionally, there is a new category: banners, which grant the player extra bonuses when in range, but at the cost of movement freedom. The Skeleton Bomber carries a barrel on its back. If it is killed, the danger is averted, but if it gets too close to y...Read full article on Community Announcements (4xo_Ron)AnnouncementsOfficial

Hey everyone, we’re back again! Time really flies when you're having fun, it feels like I made the last post just yesterday! Today we've got some updates on previously mentioned topics and, of course, another sneak peek just for you! Let’s start by talking about the most important part first. We mentioned the improved onboarding last time, and we’ve been working on it ever since. Your first contact with the game should feel as amazing as we know it can be, so to ensure that, we’ve put even more effort into it. We’re confident we’re on the right track as we are making progress every single day! Secondly, we’ve been talking a lot about the look and feel of the game in recent posts, but we haven’t really delivered on showcasing it, until now. Managing your inventory is a crucial part of the game, so we want it to feel both fun and impactful. Take a look at what we’ve cooked up for our attribute transformation system! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45354938/34e0cd46e1452c0bcffe32e2e2c97f9ca642e858.gif It doesn’t just look pretty, it also has a really cool sound effect! If you want to hear it, feel free to head over to our Twitter page and check it out! To wrap up today’s dev blog, we want to revisit the setting. We’re heading to Ancient Egypt, where players will face a deadly curse. So far, the gameplay hasn’t fully reflected the hostile environment of our setting, but that’s about to change! We’re thinking sandstorms, falling objects, and other environmental elements that scream: You are not welcome here!Read full article on Community Announcements (4xo_Ron)
