About this game

HAVE YOU EVER DREAMED OF STARTING YOUR OWN CULT?
Now you can - right from the comfort of your own home! Imagine the respect you’ll receive as an up-and-coming cult leader! Issue weird teachings to your followers! Expand your territory! Build a base of operations! Perform sacrifices! Oversee a growing stockpile of military-grade weapons!
In this sandbox survival game, your most valuable resource isn’t stones and wood… it’s human beings.
Every character in the world, from civilians to enemies, is a potential recruit for your growing cult.
Turn the game world into your personal follower-farm by spreading propaganda, managing infamy, and making your cult worthy of joining. Once a new follower joins your flock, you can put them to work, play as them, or enlist their support on missions. All of your followers have strengths and weaknesses, and are best used in accordance with their abilities – farmers, smooth-talkers, doctors, etc.
Followers are your most important resource, but also your most volatile. If you don’t keep them happy, they’ll quit the cult. And remember… a cult leader without any followers is just a lonely weirdo.
It wouldn’t be a cult unless your friends could join.
JOIN US supports up to 4-player co-op. Work together to build the cult of your dreams and crush all those that try to oppose you. The end of the world depends on it!
Build your cult’s compound from the ground up. Design buildings and defenses, manage resources, put followers to work, and customize your home base! Every great cult starts with a great compound.
Craft a unique belief system so that your followers can make it the centerpiece of their lives!
What are you into? UFOs? Cannibalism? Intermittent fasting? All of the above? Maybe you just wanna hang around the drum circle and hammer out a sweet beat. The choice is yours, but choose wisely – once you convince your followers of a belief you’ll need to live with the consequences.
For some reason people don’t like it when you impose your radical lifestyle on them. Locals, police, and the government will try to put a stop to your fun. Fight back with a wide variety of weapons from shotguns, to miniguns, to snake launchers (if you were wondering, this is a gun that shoots live snakes).
But be careful! JOIN US operates on a permadeath system – once a character dies, they stay dead forever (unless they become a ghost, but that’s a whole other thing that we don’t need to get into right now).
We know this is kind of heavy - and we didn’t want to be the ones to break it to you. But the Apocalypse IS coming. Planet Earth is going to be reborn. Your best chance to survive is to…
JOIN US.
Got it? Good. Now go forth and do cult stuff.
Oh and please Wishlist.

Gamescom Roundup
Gamescom was a big one for the cult, aka JOIN US. The team had an incredible trip to Cologne, Germany. We met awesome people, revealed new content, and let players experience JOIN US for the very first time on the show floor. Friends Don’t Let Friends Join CultsWe appeared on the Future Games Show to premiere our new co-op trailer, “Friends Don’t Let Friends Join Cults.” We also announced that JOIN US will launch on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox and PC on day one!JOIN US at the Xbox BoothWe had a great time at the Xbox booth, where we met with press from around the world and had the chance to chat about JOIN US and show off the game. We also went by a German thrift store and bought weird cult decorations for the room. The clown randomly rebooted computer monitors when it got near (not a joke) so we left it behind because, cursed. Thank you to everyone who stopped by! Our First Public Hands-On DemoFor the very first time, JOIN US was playable on the Gamescom show floor. Watching players build their compounds, recruit followers, and spread their beliefs was amazing for the team. Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their feedback! We can’t wait to get more players in the mix soon. Former Cult Members Play JOIN USWe also filmed a special IGN feature where real former cult members played JOIN US and shared their thoughts on the game. See what they had to say below! This is the trailer we wanted to shoot since before we had a company, so it was really cool to see it come together. 11 Minutes of Uncut GameplayLast but not least, we partnered with IGN to release 11 minutes of uncut JOIN US gameplay for the very first time.Take a closer look at the game’s campaign introduction - SPOILER ALERT on a few things, so if you want to save yourself, we don’t mind. That wraps up Gamescom for JOIN US! Thank you to everyone who watched, played, visited the booth, or shared the game with their friends. We can’t wait to show you more. Dooma talks about voice actors!
It’s Dooma.I wrote a post a while ago about how I got involved with JOIN US, and some of my experiences as the game’s narrative director. Today I’m going to discuss the most important technology we use for creating our game’s core narrative elements. Part of our success as a 12-person independent developer stems from choosing the right technology for the right job. And when it comes to writing and voicing the game’s dialogue, there’s no technology like “H.I.”.At first glance “H.I.” looks kind of like “A.I.” but instead of forming an upside-down “V”, the two vertical lines on the first letter are parallel to each other, like the goal posts in a football end zone. “H.I.” is short for “Human Intelligence” - which is a roundabout way of saying every line of dialogue in JOIN US was written and voice-acted by actual human beings instead of robots.Annoying the locals. But now they can talk back.Q: Doesn’t this take longer and cost way more than just having AI write the script and perform the voices? A: Yes.Q: Isn’t relying on this technology going to put robots out of work? A: Possibly.Q: Won’t this just reduce our reliance on data centers, and not, in any, way contribute to increasing electricity prices, or using all our water to cool micro-processors? A: Yes, but it’s hard to put a price on quality. We can't play her dialogue on a blog, but it's very closed-minded.Collectively Louie Gibson, Joe Dietsch (JOIN US’s creative director), and I, wrote all dialogue and on-screen text in JOIN US. With limited resources, we could only record in: Canadian French and English (JOIN US will be subtitled in many other languages). Yanik Comeau, a (human) translator oversaw our Québécois translation. We were fortunate to be able to record the English version at 424 Post in Hollywood – and the French version at Ubisoft’s Alice Studio just a few blocks from our office. I directed the 2-week long English recording session, and co-directed the 3-week Québécois session with Olivier Chagnon an...Read full article on Community Announcements (joedietsch)AnnouncementsOfficial
JOIN US: Release Date (Spoiler Alert: It's March '27)
Hey, this is Joe, the creative director of JOIN US.We made a social post last Christmas. There were cult people dancing with Santa hats. In the end we wrote "Coming 2026. Because The Apocalypse Doesn't Push Its Release Date". We thought it was a good line. Not hilarious, but a solid 6/10. And that was the plan. Exceeeept... ...we're going to push the release date of JOIN US to MARCH 2027. But it's for a good reason! The March release will cover PC, XBOX, PlayStation, and additional handheld devices. It will be a full release of the game with all the polish and player comforts that you'd expect with that milestone. Our Fall launch would have been Beta or Early Access, and it would have likely come with the typical challenges of that experience. Also, if you think about it, moving the date of the Apocalypse is VERY cult. So, at least we're on brand. The apocalypse definitely is coming and it has lots of particle effects. ːsteamthumbsupː For our small team, a BIG UPSIDE of the new release date was getting to ensure that we make JOIN US the best it can be, while reaching the widest possible audience. ːsteamthumbsdownː Our only real CONCERN was that we might bum players out. And we really like you guys! Except for you, Brad. You know exactly who you are and what you did.A brief history of JOIN US. I started noodling on this game in 2021. The team grew between 2022 and 2024 and we all worked for free. In 2024 we got funding and this got to become our real job and since then the game has been a central point in our lives... and it's been great. Like, really great. Having a community of players who share our sense of humor makes it even better. So we want this game to be awesome. Not just creatively, but also technically. Because the tech matters. An old still of the game. Apparently running in Unreal 4 on a Mac from the look of it. Not to get deep in the weeds, but the console porting process comes down to optimization and by focusing on a multiplatform launch we're going to...Read full article on Community Announcements (joedietsch)AnnouncementsOfficial
May Updates!
JOIN US - Dev Updates!Hello from the dev side! This is Joe the Creative Director. I was sitting around working on the tutorial, and realized I hadn't posted anything on the blogs for 2 months. I promise we've been working on the game and not slacking off. Actually, we've been really busy with the game. But we did slack on blogs. In our defense, we made TikToks. Also, everyone on our team got sick. Sort of a biblical plague situation at the office. JOIN US is a weird game normally, but its way weirder when you're running a high fever. Not recommended. We survived. The good news is that we're feature locked! For a bigger studio, that would mean we're purely handling polish and optimization. For us (11 people with nobody to tell us what to do and a shoddy work-life-balance) that means that we're not going add any brand new mechanics, and our focus is very much shifting to polish and optimization... but also if stuff needs to change to make the game better, we'll probably just change it and then the game will be better. Some of us have been working on this since 2022, so at this point we just want it to be good. Anyway, here's some notable headlines of the last couple months!CAMPAIGN PLAYABLE A-ZThe narrative campaign can progress from one side to the other in co-op. That's 38 missions, with another ~30 side missions. Or you can just sandbox and not see anything we made for you...There's a narrative campaign. Also there are flamethrowers.HUMAN VOICESThere are now ~12,000 human voice lines in the game that were recorded over 2 weeks with an awesome cast of real people. Around 2,000 of those are narrative lines and the rest are NPC vocals (Followers rambling about The Leader, civilians verbally abusing you for being a weirdo, etc.)FARMINGJOIN US is a game about doing cult stuff, but we figured if there was farming then we should shoot our shot at a mini farming loop. You can now plant crops and change out your crop varieties (this ranges from tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, t...Read full article on Community Announcements (joedietsch)AnnouncementsOfficial
JOIN US: Fall Release
Hi, it's Joe, creative director on JOIN US. We made a cult game. Last September, we made a trailer for our cult game so that people would know it existed. We were pretty proud of our trailer. There was a big octopus at end that people seemed to like. Then we worked more on the game and it got better.Shooting up a dam with a leopard print minigun. No wider context. We put this early in the blog so people would keep reading. That's it. Lots of people asked us when the game was going to come out, but we had to be weird and secret because... Marketing? Business? Terror? Long story short, we decided to plant a flag and get this thing out the door.So we're going to say it's coming in... FALLIn fairness, Fall is not a date. It's the time of year when the leaves change and pumpkin beverages return. Also there's weird table decor being sold at department stores that smells like cinnamon for whatever reason. Pretty sure nobody ever buys those. I've never seen anyone take one to the register. Not once. Neither have you.Fall is also when we're going to release JOIN US on PC.So we made a Trailer 2 to tell people our plan. IGN was nice enough to put it in FAN FEST! Also QUEBEC CELEBRATION OF GAMES was nice enough to feature us last week in their fantastic showcase. You can probably watch our Trailer 2 faster than you could read this blog, so here's a link!TRAILER 2Base building from our elevated third-person Leader Mode perspective. However, if you can't watch because you're in a work meeting or maybe you simply enjoy the lost art of reading, here's some highlights from our trailer, entitled "JOIN US - Official Fall 2026 Announce Trailer | IGN Fan Fest 2026" because we couldn't think of a better name.JOIN US is going to launch on PC this Fall. We'll lock in the exact date this Summer and let everyone know. This trailer reveals more about the TEACHING SYSTEM. Teachings are how you build the ideology of your cult. Rather than asking players to pick a class like D&D (Alien Cult, Prepp...Read full article on Community Announcements (joedietsch)
