REDEVELOPMENT LOG PART 3: Brain Food

Greetings, Whitaker Metapham. I'm copyrighting that, don't steal it, please. That's mine now./R continues redevelopment unabated - even while on the Summer Sale. For anyone reading right now, any updates I am talking out will be free when 2.0 patch inevitably launches. I am aiming for the last week of October to have the game rebuilt for 2.0/IDE Upgrade. Don't hold your breath though. I am one person. However, some new milestones to celebrate.Puzzles will now have better UI and feedback (as well as improved control) to make them more enjoyable and less clunky. You'll also receive system alerts when a puzzle is solved correctly. Some other new puzzle types are being added to deepen gameplay. We're not gonna make you do rocket science, but your brain will get some exercise as well as Lydia's feet. One of those new types are more locked containers. I want players to feel they earn things and yes, combinations will change every game!Speaking of things changing every game, we are looking into making the game's mazes way less predictable and improving replay value. That also involves the process of navigating them. Seriously, never made sense how I did it before....We are also looking to add gameplay into portions that were a bit dry in the last build. We're just trying to make the game more engaging overall. The new Map system is almost done. Rather than the clunky old red boxes of the old style, the map will have much more specific guidance. You will still have to discover things but navigation should be less of a chore now.

    RE-DEVELOPMENT LOG: PART 2

Howdy, Whitaker Meta-fam.Still hard at work at rebuilding the game here and there are some things to celebrate. While there is still a ways to go, here's what has been updated:IMPROVED HUD AND IN-GAME MENU: Let's face it. The old in-game menu sucked and the HUD didn't say much. Here is what we changed. There are now system alerts on the top left that will tell you if you are exhausted, have escaped, are safe, and more. This can also be disabled in Options now.The in-game Menu now doesn't conflict with player input: a frequent problem in the original build. You can now Exit to Desktop from the in-game menu. You will also see messages notifying that the game saves are successful.Item pickup messages are now a larger font and will also display stat changes with the top-left alerts. This should make information clearer for players.NEW AND IMPROVED OPTIONS: The Options menu is cleaner now and has a ton on new features, including:The ability to choose visual filters for both exploration and chase scenes (or to disable them completely)Set brightness, contrast, darkness and saturation levels separatelyScreen noise alpha can now be set separately from the other filtersSet text size both in lore and bottom screen dialogueSet sound mode to monoAmbient sounds, voiceovers and system alert noises have separate volume levels nowExhaustion alerts can now be visual, audio, both or just the plain stamina bar if you want.Hazards (something that kills you that is not Patches) have a separate HUD alert so you can tell you are dying (besides the red alpha from before.) There is an audio and visual alert or you can disable it.You can now adjust the speed of the flashing prompt that appears when you find accessible events. You can adjust how often the game executes an auto-save. Manual saving is still available!Tutorials can be turned off if you don't want them. There is a Quickload option now that will allow you to jump straight into the game and skip the title screen if you have a saved game....

    RE-DEVELOPMENT LOG : Part 1

Howdy, Whitaker Meta-fam. You might recall that this title recently went into Maintenance Mode, or you're a sane person who is not a sadist and would rather enjoy the games they play.Turns out, the engine I used upgraded partway through development and I was also a VERY green developer when I started it, so I have been rebuilding the codebase from the ground up. I got pretty tired of things breaking every patch.Basically, I am also going to take this time to make the game more fun. But I'll try to post these updates periodically so those who do care can see the effort being put in.Here is what has been done so far.The first change? The lead. Her face and eyes are more defined now and her animations have been cleaned up. Also she has brown eyes now, because they just look better against the red and purple motifs of the game. In addition, there is now a visual indicator when you are in a hazard with an audio cue to alert you. When exhausted, Lydia now flashes instead of the stamina bar - which may or may not return.Physics overhaul. The Physics were not too intense originally, nor are they now, but how Collisions happen and not has been re-coded, ground up. This has led to a much less glitchy enemy and has made movement more consistent overall. It's a lot you won't see, but you'll "feel" it, if that makes sense?More Input options. Mouse support has been added for navigation now, with interact on the left click and hold/hide/sit on the right click. And oh yeah, hide is now a separate button. I felt this was a good idea as hide is probably the most important button in chase scenes. It needs its own button.New Eventing system. The areas you would enter to open interactive elements had major problems with overlapping and sometimes "Eating" each other. This entire system, from prompts to mechanics, has been completely re-coded. Overlaps no longer exist and a global manager now handles which event is current, versus just character placement.Distanced audio has been improved...

Patch 1.5 - Game in Maintenance Mode until 2.0

Howdy folks. The last patch broke a lot that I fixed. Tee-hee. Options button also now works in the Pause menu.Full disclosure - I was a rookie developer when I started making this game myself in 2023. The game engine I used has released a whole new version (halfway through my three years of solo development) since then and I have made many other smaller projects that aren't nearly as broken as this one. In addition, it is reaching a point where my updates are band-aids to bad programming rather than true fixes. Also, GodotSteam, my API wrapper, is no longer officially supported for Godot 3.Therefore, the game will be receiving this last update before it goes into "maintenance mode." This will involve me moving the whole codebase and assets over to Godot 4, which will take time. But by then, this game will be more playable.... plus some new things.Cheers,xoxoxo.negDev
