Update 1.3.0 - The Map Update!
Hey everyone! Excited to announce that a new update just went live introducing a lot of fixes and QoL updates based on community feedback! Thank you to everyone who left reviews and popped into the discord for discussions, your feedback was invaluable and you've helped get the game into a better place. On top of the new content, there is also now a native Linux build of the game available! In case you missed it in the last post, there's also an official Steam Input controller layout for the game, and I can personally verify that it plays great on the Steam Deck.Patch Notes:Added an in-game map that will fill out as you explore zones in the gameAccessed by pressing M (can be rebound)There's a function to place markers anywhere on the map to keep track of things, with several different shapes and colors to choose from!Existing saves will not have map data available retroactively, and may encounter minor oddities since the unlock triggers for regions were set assuming the player started from the beginning of the gameImplemented a new "hinting" mode that can be toggled on or off. While enabled, the game will give you subtle guidance on what lore, items and locations are most important for forward progression via a special highlightYou will be prompted if you want this on or not whenever you start a new game, and it can also be freely toggled from the settings menuShould work and show appropriate progress hints with existing saves!Added a new reward for completing The Broken Shrine that increases your movement speed by 50% to make late game exploration less tediousCan be toggled on or off from the inventory screenAdded two new accessibility features to the settings menu:An option to use a non-pixelated font in the tome to be easier on the eyesAn option to enable subtitles for sound effects that give potentially relevant information to the playerFixed the ability to take screenshots through Steam (sorry this was broken so long)Added several new magenta flowers to most zone...Read full article on Community Announcements (Bismuth Tales)Patch NotesOfficial
Progress Update + Steam Deck Compatibility
Work is well underway on a large update that will bring a lot of QoL improvements to address feedback that's come in since the game released! The biggest addition on the way is an in-game map to help you better orient yourself in the city of Artahk. The map will fill out with new areas and connections between zones automatically as you explore, and can be pulled up from anywhere with a dedicated keybind. It will highlight the current zone you're in (and you can toggle between viewing just that zone or the full world map), but there is not a marker of your exact current position--you'll still have to stay aware of your surroundings to find your way!Other additions on the way include:A way to get around faster late game when you've reached the point of scouring the map for things that you missedAn option to use a smoother, more readable font in the tome instead of the aesthetically fitting but rough on the eyes for some pixel fontAn optional "hinting" system that can be enabled to give you a little bit of guidance on how to progress (Subtle hints highlighting items/lore/zones on that map that are pertinent to your next steps on the critical path, not outright telling you "you need to go here and do this")Some improvements to the late game experience to spoilery to discussAnd even more little improvements on the way!I'm aiming to have the update out by the end of the month, so be on the lookout!A Note On Steam Deck CompatibilityHaving now done some thorough testing, I'm pleased to say that the game plays beautifully on the Steam Deck! The only small issue I encountered is that when entering a word into the tome, the virtual keyboard covers enough of the screen that you can't see what you're typing, but this is a pretty minor annoyance. An official Steam Input layout for the game is now available that should make it effortless to play with a controller! In light of how well Steam Input works and the dev time the map has ended up taking, native controller support has been...Read full article on Community Announcements (Bismuth Tales)Patch NotesOfficial
Hotfix 1.2.1
Fixed a bug where one specific lore entry would crash the game if you tried to bookmark it When you scroll over a lore serial in the tome interface, a preview of its entries is now shown on the right side without needing to select it Corrected a few typos found in lore entriesRead full article on Community Announcements (Bismuth Tales)Patch NotesOfficial
Update 1.2.0
Patch Notes:Added a new option in the settings menu to control the intensity of the dark overlay applied to unlit areasThis setting will allow you to go as far as fully disabling it if need be, but in general I wouldn't recommend going below 50% or lights will start to look a little strange since they were designed around the darkening effectThe escape key can now consistently be used as an alternative for closing menus regardless of your keybinds. It also works as an alternative to open the in-game menu nowFixed a bug where the magenta torch ability would not turn off if you died while using it, causing odd behavior until you tried to activate it again on respawnFixed an oversight where it was possible to trap yourself with no way out in the root puzzle in the Main Plaza zoneFixed an issue where it was possible to get two movable mirrors stuck and unable to be pushed in The Royal Parterre zoneFixed a possible softlock in an end game area. (You'll never guess which ability caused it)Fixed a small number of misaligned collision tilesRead full article on Community Announcements (Bismuth Tales)
