Control squadrons of steamships in intense naval engagements set for release in 2026. Steam & Iron: Battle of Port Arthur offers a tactical challenge as you command empires to victory on the high seas.

About this game

Steam & Iron: Battle of Port Arthur is a real-time naval simulator set in the era of early 20th-century steamships. Step into the shoes of Japanese Admiral Heihachiro Togo aboard his flagship battleship Mikasa and lead your fleet into battle against the Russian navy’s formidable squadrons of battleships, cruisers, and torpedo boats.

Our game faithfully simulates naval engagements between individual ships and fleets in the Yellow Sea during the Japanese Navy’s siege of the Russian naval base at Port Arthur.

Key Features

  • Play through ready-made missions or create your own using a built-in editor.

  • The game features ships from the Russian First Pacific Squadron and the Japanese Navy (Nippon Kaigun).

  • Tactical naval combat is carefully simulated, factoring in ship positioning, speed, sea conditions, fire and flood control systems, and accuracy adjustments.

  • Weather conditions, sea states, and time of day directly affect combat dynamics.

  • All ships are based on real historical prototypes with accurate technical specifications.

  • The game includes dozens of military and civilian ships from both fleets, with more being added over time.

Planned Features

  • Dynamic campaign for the battles in the Yellow Sea for both sides.

  • Save and load functionality during missions.

  • Naval operations in other theaters (e.g., Vladivostok, Tsushima).

  • New ships.

Steam & Iron is approaching release

Development of Steam & Iron: Battle of Port Arthur has entered its final stage.Right now, most of my time is going into polishing the game, testing battles and missions, fixing bugs, and improving the small details that become increasingly noticeable as everything comes together. The main systems for EA are already in place, so at this point development is less about adding new features and more about making sure the existing ones work together as they should. There is still work to be done, and I don't want to rush these final months just to meet an arbitrary date. The exact Early Access release date will be announced a little later. In the meantime, I'll keep polishing, testing, fixing things. Occasionally it may break something that worked perfectly well before I touched it. Hope it won't be the case. We're getting close.Thank you for following the development of the game.

    Destroyers attack in the night

In this new gameplay video, two divisions of Japanese destroyers, supported by the cruiser Takasago, move through the darkness in search of Russian warships. They make contact with the the enemy. The fight is brief, close, and deadly: maneuvering in the dark, guns opening fire, and torpedoes deciding the outcome. This is one of the things I enjoy while working on this game: battles can unfold slowly, with uncertainty and maneuvering, and then suddenly collapse into a few violent minutes.Hope you enjoy this look at night combat in the game.

    Dev Blog 08.08.2025

This update has been in development for almost a month, and it’s finally ready. I’ve completely redesigned the in-game minimap almost from scratch. The new version is faster, more intuitive, and far more informative. The previous version of the minimap was slow because it used unnecessary resources, which noticeably affected performance. It didn’t display each ship’s target or its position within the group. There were also no tactical grid squares, and their addition has greatly improved navigation at sea. Thanks to these optimizations, performance has increased by more than 10 FPS.Now, everything has changed:Ship icons clearly show all vessels on the map.Routes and waypoints visualize the planned path of each group.Targets show exactly what each ship is aiming for.The ship's order in the group is now easy to identify. With these improvements, navigation and situational awareness are much easier, letting players focus on commanding the fleet without fighting the interface.Work continues as we are approaching the first release.

Development update {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45439613/052679b914026e407b75b5f006458a020b221f22.jpg It’s been a while since the last dev update, so here it is. Over the past month, I’ve been working on adding torpedoes to the game. To me, they are the second key pillar alongside artillery. Naval actions in the Russo-Japanese War began with the torpedo attack on Port Arthur and concluded with night combat after the Battle of Tsushima. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45439613/3cdde4ca01a52ba561265db37b16dcfefe1fdaf0.jpg I can now say that destroyers are able to launch torpedoes, and capital ships have their light batteries ready for defense. I also added two new ships: Murakumo-class destroyer for the IJN Sokol-class destroyer for the IRN More destroyers and torpedo boats will be added later. Work continues as the game approaches its first release. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45439613/473fec414b26d5af686309bc97d8d4b56d51af05.jpg
