Embark on a mud and blood trek through Venice's carnival as you fight zombies. Join forces with two friends for strength against the undead horde, guided by Dead Head Studios in their 2025 free-to-play shooter.

About this game

Rise up to your duty raven, foul magic has overtaken the beautiful city of Venice. We cannot let this stand. Venice must be purged.

You will be tasked with going through the streets of the accursed city and erasing all that reeks of undeath. Serve well.

The streets are full of them, for the carnival was taking place. Pay no heed to the enemy's numbers, for you will prevail.

An odious miasma hangs in the air and has transformed all the celebrators into mindless husks of what they once were, free them from this hell so that the city can live on and grow old.

Your task will take you all the way to the church, where you must call the horde upon yourself and deliver our god's fury to them.

The subjects of your divine violence will be tenacious and maddened with starvation, you must never let your guard down.

Through the possession, their bodies have deformed beyond recognition. Beware of the large ones and the partially disolved especially.

This foul magic has made them resilient and formidable. It will be a battle hard-fought.

But be not afraid for you are well equipped. You have at your disposal our finest weapons.

The rifles we give you have been infused with prayer and the good will of our Lord, their bullets sear wicked flesh and purge evil souls.

Our explosives carry in them the ashes of great saints, they tear skin and bone alike.

But most of all, we give you a blessed artifact, one passed down through our organization. It heals the wounds of the righteous and brutalizes any heretic in its way.

We wish you good luck warriors, may the light guide thee well.

This game is a 3 player coop PvE shooter where you play as members of a secret organization, Umbra Mortis. You will go through the city of Venice which is overrun by undead carnival-goers.

We added something small and floppy to the lobby so that you could play in less players than intended if you so desired. But BEWARE!!! This is not the intended way to play the game and you will have a very difficult time completing it.

The steam page is now live!!!

Hello everyone, my name is Adam and I'm the producer and community manager at Deadhead studios. We are a student team at the Breda University of applied sciences, a dutch university with a study specifically about game creation. We have been working on the game in a team of fluctuating size, throughout development we've gone from 14 to 16 to 23, then back to 19. The team is about half artists, quarter designers and quarter programmers. The whole study is project-based, meaning we have very few lectures and mostly learn by doing, and this is our largest project yet. The school year that we are spending on this game is divided into four, 2 month long blocks, with each of them roughly corresponding to one of the stages of video game production (concepting -> pre-production -> production -> post-release). This year-long project has been a big challenge, but one that pushed us forward a lot. Throughout the whole development we have been plagued by both real life diseases (ironic considering our game's theme) and a lack of clear vision. With the guidance of our lecturers, we were able to climb at least somewhat out of this rut and we think that the final game we'll present to you towards the end of May/start of June will be a fun one. The development had some turbulence, but game devs are a resilient people. The game itself is, as you probably saw on the store page, a Venice based horde shooter with online co-op. You play as members of a secret organization trying to rid Venice of the filthy undead. We are hoping to create an experience upwards of 15 minutes in duration. Unsurprisingly, multiplayer has turned out to be a huge time sink. Even with the help of GAS and the unreal engine replication framework, getting the game to work properly, let alone testing it so that it feels nice difficulty-wise was very difficult, since for any proper playtest, we needed 3 people. The trade-off, of course, is that multiplayer is fun! Running around with friends and shooting at stuff (...
