  Train Fest Summer Update

  Greetings Conductors, it's time once again for an update and this is a big one!As some of you have seen, Crystal Rail is participating in Steam's Train Fest this week, and we've prepared a massive update to our demo to celebrate!The demo now includes the Tarpan Prologue, a brand new story which introduces the game's route selection system, and features 100s of lines of new voiced dialogue, half a dozen new tutorials, and 3 minutes of animated cutscenes.If you haven't played our demo in awhile or have been waiting for the perfect moment to train-it-up, now's the time!   Spring Demo Update 2026:

  Welcome back conductors; today’s update is a massive one, enough to cover an entire landscape and then some! Feast your eyes on a mix of changes mechanical, aesthetic, and quality-of-life long awaited! Some Highlights:MAC VERSION:For those of you who have been eying Crystal Rail but lacked a PC to play it on, worry no longer, as Crystal Rail now has a mac version of its demo playable! LANDSCAPES:After almost a year of preparation, we have now implemented landscape animations which play when you move between stations, replacing an earlier screen that simply showed, in abstract terms, what opponents did. It was always the intention to do this, but it required an incredible amount of new assets both for each of the 9 stations and every single train car in the game, which needed to be redrawn and animated in a new angle. We hope you’ll enjoy the scenery, and know that very soon, this scene will be more than a pretty view but also host new mechanics!SAVE AND CONTINUEAfter literally years of having it on our to-do list, Crystal Rail now has an automatic-save and continue system! The game now saves at the start of every day in every mode; if you have to go in the middle of a run, you can rest assured you’ll be able to start it up again when you return!TRAIN BUYING UI OVERHAULTrain Buying UI Overhaul: the user-interface for our train-buys section of the game was created in summer of 2023 and remained untouched visually until now; we have redrawn all car-slot assets and added new UI which indicates the effects and capacities of each train car in real time!DEMO NOTICE:After much consideration, we have elected to disable unlocks for demo players as it was taking too much time to manage a separate set of unlocks. The demo will still offer hours of free gameplay, and will continue to receive new content in the coming months.   End of Year Update

  Early Happy New Year condutors! We hope you're all having a restful holiday, and are pleased to present you with one last update for 2025, theEnd of Year UpdateAKA: the Landscape Update:In Royale mode, you now see completely new landscape animations every time you travel between stations. (Future updates will add new possible actions to this screen)Great Auk's Fjord's Resting-effect can now stack, allowing you to multiply subsequent rest effects by more than double.Various adjustments to Opponent-team AI, which should make games more fair and more susceptible to Government-related shenanigans.The new art included in this update is the result of over 9 months of painting and coding, we hope you will enjoy it, and look forward to a phenomenal new year of Crystal Rail!-The CR Team

  Demo Update: Reputation Rework

  Happy December Conductors! We have been hard at work since the successful completion of our Kickstarter in October! Our intention has always been to update Crystal Rail's free demo so you can see the fruits of our labor, and we have now released the first post-kickstarter demo update! The highlight of this update is the long awaited Reputation Rework! Those who have played Crystal Rail's Royale mode and Journey Story know that after you make deliveries, the profit from those deliveries is multiplied by your reputation! This means that a high reputation is essential to a successful train. However, for many months, players on our discord have been proving that this mechanic is unbalanced. Because reputation multiplied your entire capital, it was often, if not always, advantageous to focus completely on reputation at the expense of anything else. By endgame, many players wouldn't make deliveries at all, simply relying on reputation to carry them to victory. We like the way reputation and capital interact, but we want Crystal Rail to rework a variety of playstyles, and we spent a long while considering how we could ensure there would be many rewarding and different paths to victory.A special thanks to Youtuber SeriousTrivia, whose thoughtful playthrough of our beta earlier in the year planted the seeds of the solution we have spent many months implementing; the new Daily Capital System!When you go into Royale or Journey mode now, you may notice a new resource during the Daytime - your Daily Income, right under your Capital. Daily income represents all the capital you gain each day. After your last stop, THIS number is now multiplied by your reputation, NOT YOUR ENTIRE CAPITAL.What this means is that reputation is still integral to the game; multiplying your daily gains is very powerful.
