It's our biggest look yet at the full experience and the direction the game is taking. 🧍 Updated Portrait ArtworkWe've also continued refining the game's hand-drawn character portraits, and we're incredibly pleased with how they're coming together. Each portrait takes several days to complete and is one of the most labour-intensive parts of development. Every expression, shadow, and detail is carefully considered to ensure each character feels authentic and carries a story before they even speak.Today we're sharing a look at Sergeant Crane, captured during a flashback sequence of John during World War 2. 🖤 Noir Comic Panel CutscenesAnother major addition to Hollow Mire is our new comic panel cutscenes.Inspired by classic noir artwork, these hand-drawn sequences help tell key moments of the story through dramatic composition, bold shadows, and expressive framing. Rather than relying solely on traditional cutscenes, these illustrated panels allow us to emphasise memory, emotion, and psychological tension while staying true to the game's 1950s-inspired atmosphere. 🕰️ Thank YouIt's taking time to make Hollow Mire the best it can be, and we truly a...Read full article on Community Announcements (Mowlo Game Studio)AnnouncementsOfficial
🎨 Visual Art, Soundtrack and Cutscene Updates
Development on Hollow Mire continues steadily behind the scenes, and today we wanted to share more glimpses into the world we’re building. 🧍 Updated Portrait ArtworkWe’ve continued updating many of the game’s character portraits. Each portrait takes several days to complete and remains one of the most labour-intensive parts of development. Moving the characters into a higher level of detail presents its own challenges, not just technically, but emotionally as well.We want every portrait to fully represent the character behind it. Their history, exhaustion, fears, and personality all need to come through in a single image. Each face should feel like it carries a story of its own.As development continues, we’re refining these portraits carefully to ensure they feel grounded within the world of Hollow Mire while still maintaining the hand-drawn atmosphere that defines the game. John Rowe Elizabeth Roland 🚶 The Road to Breken HouseIn this updated scene, Walter watches from above as John makes his way toward Breken House. It’s a quiet moment, but one layered with tension, the feeling of being observed long before you understand why. As John moves deeper into the world surrounding Breken House, the line between coincidence and intentions begin to blur together. 🖤 Noir Comic Panel CutscenesWe’re also continuing work on several narrative cutscenes presented through dark, noir-inspired comic panels. These sequences allow us to lean further into the game’s psychological tone while presenting memories, conversations, and fragmented moments in a more stylised way. Heavy shadows, harsh lighting, and hand-drawn compositions all play a role in shaping the mood we want these scenes to carry. 🎼 Updated Soundtrack DirectionThe soundtrack and sound design continue to evolve alongside the visuals. We’re now leaning further into a classic 1950’s noir horror score, subdued jazz, restrained orchestration, unsettling ambience, and atmospheric sound design rooted firmly in the era the game inha...Read full article on Community Announcements (Mowlo Game Studio)AnnouncementsOfficial
🎨 New Scenes and Visual Updates in Hollow Mire
Hello all! Today we’re sharing a look at some of the latest visual updates in Hollow Mire, including new locations, updated character portraits, and continued refinements to the UI.Each of these changes brings the experience closer to the tone and presentation we’ve been working toward, something quieter, more deliberate, and more in line with the world itself.🧍 Updated Character PortraitsWe’ve revisited several character portraits. These updates focus on improving clarity, expression, and consistency across the cast while maintaining the hand-drawn feel. Small adjustments in line work, shading, and tone help the characters sit more naturally within the world. Walter Pendrick 🏛️ Falstow Constabulary – CourtyardWe’re also revealing a new scene: the courtyard of Falstow Constabulary.A place of routine and order on the surface, but like much of Hollow Mire, there’s a quiet weight beneath it. This is a space players will return to throughout the investigation, where conversations unfold, details surface, and a deeper story begins to take shape. 📬 The Mail RoomAnother new location takes us back to 1943.Here, John and a friend sneak inside the military mail office in search of an important letter, one that may hold answers better left buried. It’s a more intimate, tense moment, where the act of simply being somewhere you shouldn’t is enough to shift the atmosphere.Like many spaces in Hollow Mire, it’s not just what you find, but how you find it. 🕰️ Development UpdateDevelopment continues steadily behind the scenes.Work is ongoing across multiple areas of the game, with visual polish, scene implementation, and narrative pacing all moving forward together. With each update, Hollow Mire comes closer to the experience we’ve envisioned from the start.Thank you, as always, for following along.More soon.- Mowlo GamesRead full article on Community Announcements (Mowlo Game Studio)AnnouncementsOfficial
🕯️ New Artwork: Exploring Breken House and the Police Station
New Artwork from Hollow MireToday we’re sharing a few new pieces of artwork from Hollow Mire, offering a glimpse into some of the spaces players will explore. Each location plays a role in shaping the atmosphere of Breken House and the unfolding investigation surrounding it.🏚️ Beneath the House Some of Breken House’s secrets aren’t hidden in plain sight, far from it - they lie between the walls and beneath the floors. In this scene, John navigates a narrow crawl space, pushing deeper into the hidden structure of the house. Exploring Breken House means more than simply walking its halls. Players will need to move through tight passages, forgotten compartments, and spaces never meant to be discovered. To truly uncover what happened here, every nook and cranny may need to be explored… even if that means altering the house itself.📂 The Clerk’s OfficeAt the police station, Gwen Porter pays a visit to the ever-busy Laura Holloway.Laura manages the station’s records and clerical work, a constant stream of reports, files, and paperwork passing across her desk. Gwen arrives to discuss her findings at Bordon Down Asylum, hoping that something buried in the station’s records might help piece together the events surrounding the case. It’s a quieter moment in the investigation, but an important one, where conversations and documentation can sometimes reveal as much as the places themselves. This particular scene took roughly 50 hours of hand-drawn illustration, carefully building the room piece by piece to capture the lived-in feeling of a rural yet busy station office. 🕰️ Development Update Development continues steadily behind the scenes.Breken House itself has expanded significantly, with new rooms and hidden pathways now fully realized. At the same time, many scenes beyond the house are also nearing completion as the wider world of Hollow Mire continues to take shape.Step by step, the story moves closer to the experience we want players to discover.Thank you to everyone following...Read full article on Community Announcements (Mowlo Game Studio)AnnouncementsOfficial
🎨 Inside Hollow Mire’s Hand-Drawn World
🎨 Environments & Characters in Hollow MireToday we wanted to share a few pieces of artwork from Hollow Mire that capture a stage of development we rarely show.🚪 The Gate to Breken HouseFar from the city, the iron gates stand before Breken House. This threshold marks one of the story’s emotional turning points, a place where certainty gives way to doubt, and memory begins to fracture. The world grows quieter here. Heavier. This scene is caught between concept and completion. Stone and iron are sketched into place, while fog, light, and decay begin to take hold in paint. It’s a moment suspended between intention and inevitability. 🏢 The Editor’s OfficeA quiet room at the edge of the story. This is where John first begins to sense that his work is pulling him somewhere darker, a small office filled with paper, stale light, and organised chaos. In this sketch > full colour, much of the scene exists in idea, as pencil lines. 🚗 Gwen’s Car — From Sketch to PaintWe’re also sharing a smaller but important detail: Detective Gwen Porter’s car.Vehicles are strange things to draw. They’re rigid, mechanical, and precise, the opposite of the soft, unstable worlds our characters move through. That contrast is exactly why we like starting them in loose pencil first.Seeing Gwen’s car in both its raw sketch form and its painted version reveals how much of Hollow Mire’s mood is built in layers: structure first, emotion second. Even something practical becomes part of the story once light and wear take hold. 🤕 John, Mid-MomentFinally, a look at John himself. This piece captures him during one of his quieter episodes, a headache that’s more than physical. Confusion, memory, grief, and exhaustion all press in at once.Like the environments, he begins as conceptual lines before colour and shadow take hold. We hope you enjoy this small look into the world we're creating and we're looking forward to sharing more development news with you soon! — Mowlo GamesRead full article on Community Announcements (Mowlo Game Studio)
