About this game
Walking the line between right and wrong is never easy—especially when you're broke, burnt out, and chasing a dream you can barely hold onto. After walking away from a lucrative corporate job to develop your own romantic visual novel, you're now struggling to finish the project while keeping your life from falling apart.
As an indie developer with no funding, no studio, and no backup plan, you must rely on the people around you—not just for emotional support, but to help fill the gaps in your project: music, art, marketing, everything. But leaning on friends comes with a price. Can you ask for help without crossing boundaries? And what are you willing to give in return?
You'll form deep, evolving relationships with four women whose lives become increasingly entwined with yours:

romance.exe is evolving
After the release of AURORA BOREALIS, CHESTNUT can finally return to romance.exe.Our first priority is to update all existing assets to match our new visual style. While the original artwork still holds up well, we've taken the overall quality to an entirely new level.How do we do that? We're taking the original render from DAZ 3D, which is always a base, and then we're enhancing it with our AI tools. So we're NOT USING AI to generate our static images - we're using AI ONLY in postprocessing.I want to be completely clear here - we've heard your voice about character consistency, and we're taking extra care about that aspect. We have the tools for that, so we can promise that everything will look as it should.This also means re-rendering every animation from scratch, but it's a task I'm happy to take on if it helps us deliver the best possible visual experience.We're also introducing a more interactive gameplay structure. You'll be able to explore the city using a new interactive map, travel between locations, meet characters, and progress through quests in a much more immersive way.As part of these improvements, we'll also plan to update the game demo. The new version will include both Episode 1 and Episode 2, making it roughly twice as long as the original demo. It's still hard to say when we'll do this because AMERICAN SUNSET is our priority right now.There's one more important change regarding development. We've found it difficult to provide regular episodic updates while working on other projects simultaneously. Because of that, we've decided to move away from the episodic release model. Instead, we'll focus on completing the entire game before releasing it, just as we do with all of our other titles. New trailer + new images
I hope that after the AMERICAN SUNSET update, Dominique and Coco, plus releasing the demo of French Confessions (on STEAM next month), I'll have more time to spend on this project. So far, everything is going magnificently, and the rendering process is continuing at an incredible speed. Currently, we've started rendering beyond the point we plan to present in the demo, and we have a number of promotional animations that will be utilized in the later parts of the game.
