Embark on missions that blend real-time action and turn-based tactics, eradicating the Void and driving progress for players and the community together.

About this game

Warped Universe: A Meta-driven Sci-fi Looter Shooter

You deploy onto a planet consumed by the Void. Push through the corruption, neutralize the cosmic threat, secure vital resources.

But here's the thing. That mission didn't just help you.

The Residuum you obtained just powered a facility on that planet. That facility, once completed, just gave a permanent buff to every player in the game. Meanwhile, someone else on the other side of the galaxy just discovered a new planet, unlocking more global buffs. Hundreds of these objectives, every season, all feeding the same universe.

You run the mission. The whole galaxy feels it.

And one more thing. Every mission can be played as real-time action or turn-based tactics. Your choice, every time. Bring your reflexes. Bring your strategy. Both work.

That's Warped Universe. A PvE looter shooter where the community drives the entire universe forward together. Run missions solo today. Squad co-op for up to 4 players arrives in an early post-launch update.

Who are you?

You aren't human anymore, not exactly. You stepped through the Celadon Gate, a portal away from a dying Earth, and were remade on the other side. The Oracle called you through, an ancient AI that needed people like you to stand against an erasure spreading at the edges of reality. The universe you warped into is held in balance by the Oracle. Not everyone agrees with how it runs things. A faction broke away. The Void keeps closing in. You're synthetic now, reprinted every time it erases you, and you're the only thing standing between matter and silence.

Explore. Defend. Upgrade. Empower.

Explore: Discover uncharted sectors and hidden planets.

Defend: Protect hundreds of seasonal objectives from the Void, a relentless alien enemy.

Upgrade: Collect Cores and Sparks to evolve and power up your custom Echo Suit and Ship.

Empower: Secure facilities to unlock permanent global buffs for everyone.

Free to play, forever. Cosmetics are the only thing you can buy. No paywalls. No pay-to-win. No gameplay locked behind a purchase

If You Like These Games, You'll Feel At Home In Our Universe

We took what we love about games we play and built something new. If you play any of these, you already get part of what we're doing.

Co-op PvE shooters: Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Destiny 2.

Space combat and exploration: Everspace 2, Star Wars Battlefront, No Man's Sky.

Turn-based tactics: XCOM 2, Phoenix Point, Fallout Tactics, Aliens: Dark Descent.

Synthetic beings and futuristic realms: Warframe, Tron, Control, Cyberpunk 2077.

Every mission in Warped Universe can be played as real-time action or turn-based tactics, on the ground or in space. Play it the way you want, every time.

Early Access - What's Here Now

Solo ground combat and space exploration. Nexus Station social hub with players gathering between missions. Planetary facility progression. A seasonal solar system the community unlocks together. Real-time action or turn-based tactics, your choice each mission.

What Makes It Different

A Shared Destiny

Every mission feeds the bigger picture. Complete objectives, extract Residuum, activate and defend planetary facilities. The buffs don’t just go to your squad. They go to everyone. The more the community plays, the more the solar system opens up. Every facility you finish unlocks a permanent power-up for the entire community. Work together to guide the expansion.

Play Your Way

Bring your shooter friend. Bring your tactics friend. Bring the friend who just wants to fly through space. Everyone plays the way they want, and it all counts. The solar system expands based on what the community accomplishes together.

Independently Developed

Built by a team of 12. No publisher, no investors telling us what to make. Just developers with credits on Jumpgate, Auto Assault, LEGO Universe, and Dragons & Titans, building the game we wanted to play.

Free to Play, Forever

The game stays free after Early Access. The full experience is here from day one. Buy cosmetics if you like the look. Don't if you don't.

Key Features

  • A Futuristic Shared, Living Universe: Every player contributes to the season-wide meta-goal. Connect new sectors through Pylons, complete missions to power facilities, and watch planets evolve from raw rock into finished worlds. The buffs go to everyone, the map grows for everyone, and even solo missions feed the same universe.

  • You Are an Echo: Your body was left on Earth. You're synthetic now: your consciousness in a custom Echo, reprinted every time the Void erases you. Power it up with Cores, Sparks, and Psionic skills earned from faction missions.

  • Personal and Communal Progression: Power up your own Echo Frame, weapons, and ship while the community builds out the shared universe around you. Both grow together.

  • Ground Combat: Engage in missions across diverse locations, including asteroids and evolving planets.

  • Space Exploration: Navigate asteroid fields, debris, and massive organic structures left behind by the Void.

  • Persistent Hub: Nexus Station, built by the Oracle and the first humans through the Gate, at the edge of collapsing space. Gear up, customize, plan, gather between missions.

  • Choose Your Playstyle: Seamlessly switch between real-time action and turn-based tactics in both ground and space combat.

  • Solo Missions Now, Squad Co-op Coming: Battle the Void across ever-changing solar systems. Every action you take feeds the shared universe. Up to 4 player co-op arrives in an early post-launch update.

  • Seasonal Content: Expanding solar systems, evolving gameplay, and new challenges every season.

Nexus Station

The Nexus Station is the heart of this new universe, built by the Oracle and the first humans through the Celadon Gate. It's where you gather, gear up, and plan missions before stepping back out into space.

A real-time 3D solar system map at the center of the station lets you track planetary progress, monitor operational facilities, and scout for regions to expand the Oracle's reach.

Workstations throughout the station are where you acquire new equipment, apply cosmetics, and add upgrades to your arsenal before heading back out.

WHAT’S COMING

Season Zero is just the beginning. We have major gameplay expansions planned that will fundamentally change how you approach every mission. Follow us for reveals.

SEASONAL SOLAR SYSTEMS

In Warped Universe, seasonal gameplay will keep the experience fresh and ever-changing. As players complete missions and collect Residuum, they’ll construct new planets and establish various facilities to unlock technologies, all while defending their creations from the Void’s relentless threat.

Each season introduces new solar systems, missions, and technology to explore with lore updates that bring new environments, combatants, and cosmetics.

SEASON ZERO

This is the beginning. New planets, new enemies, new facilities. Your progress matters. What the community builds in Season Zero shapes everything that comes next.

Cyberpunk Fest and Explaining the Warped Universe Roots

Warped Universe is in Steam Cyberpunk Fest this week, Aug 3-10, which seemed like a good excuse to talk about where our look came from. Where the look came fromBack in our brainstorm phase we were discussing old sci-fi movies we loved, all of us being huge sci-fi fans, and as we discussed the ideas and looks and how they came to be, we started looking at the actual concept art of those movies. The Blade Runner concept art by Syd Mead really struck us with the watercolor look and contrasting colors. It had this mystique, where retro meets future. We love contrast, and finding balance, and we feel that his work really shows the balance well. Our game is very much old meets new in many ways, and we all became fascinated with Syd's work to the point where we decided that we should make our game look more like the concept art, and Syd's other works expanding beyond Blade Runner, rather than basing it on the look straight from those movies.*Very early environment designs of Warped Universe, inspired by Syd Mead concept artConcept art gets to be loose in a way a film set can't. The brushwork is visible. Light does things that would be impossible or expensive to actually build. Mead's paintings have that quality where the shadows are doing as much work as the light, and you can feel the paint. That's what we wanted, not the finished look of the film, but painterly with a feeling it has been brushed, from someone or some entity's mind. As a small team with a limited budget, we felt we could lean into that imperfection in ways to make it stand out, feel different than most other space games, and make it feel like you're in a completely different universe, with different rules and physics. We wanted it to be WARPED, weird, psychedelic, and feel like you are truly escaping this world. We also decided on having our characters remain crisp, clear, and polished to have a contrast with the world and universe you are playing in. To stand out, and feel like you’re in a strange and unf...

New Gameplay Trailer - Residuum Missions in Warped Universe

With the new Residuum maps included in our recent patches, we decided to make a new gameplay trailer, now added to the Steam page as well as here on Youtube: Residuum is everything in Warped Universe. It is the source of all matter and life, and you need it to expand the solar system. These missions matter because that resource gets fed into the Planet Printer built into the underside of Nexus Station. Planets start out in a rocky birthing state, but collecting Residuum actively evolves them into a "printed state" that you can experience. Each planet has different environments that get unlocked with Residuum missions.Dive into fast-paced combat on low gravity asteroids, on ground or in space flight (your choice), and break up raw Residuum clusters before the Void claims them for themselves. If you don't see any Residuum missions on the map right now, work on a Pylon sector. Doing that will either unlock a Residuum mission or a brand new planet to evolve, which will need more Residuum missions completed. We've also added new Pylon maps this month as well that update and evolve to reflect their status. More to come on those. Jump in now, Warped Universe is free to play!

Month One: What We’ve Built Together, and What’s Next

Welcome Back Champions!A month ago we launched Warped Universe into Early Access, and it's been a hell of a ride since. We’ve always had a vision for this universe but a game like this only truly comes alive when players step into the servers. The response and feedback, both positive and negative, has really helped guide us and inspire us on what needed to be fixed and improved, and what was connecting most with players. The Warped Universe is a meta-driven game that reacts and moves based on players, and seeing it finally breathe is an amazing feeling for the whole team.Throughout this month, we’ve hit over 100 reviews, and we’ve read and digested every single one of them. Some people put massive amounts of detail and effort into them to point out what they liked and didn’t, and it’s been incredibly helpful for us in getting these patches out. We have a huge list of things to do, but sorting the list is always the hardest part. Thanks for your honesty and giving the game your time. Our entire goal this month was to take feedback and update based on it. Thanks to your feedback and bug reports, we pushed out 5 major patches in 30 days. The community's active presence in our forums and Discord has been the driving force behind the game's positive momentum. Month 1: What we built togetherWe squashed a lot of bugs; but we also actively reshaped and implemented features based on your direct input:True Control: We completely rebuilt the keybinding system to offer fully customizable controls for both real-time and turn-based modes.Visual Comfort: Added customizable FOV settings for both ground and space gameplay to combat motion sickness and improve awareness in both real-time ground and space.Expanded Universe Mechanics: Introduced Graviton and Lumen systems, allowing you to earn powerful new Psionic skills and specialized Echo Suits through faction missions.Progression Overhaul: Fine-tuned the progression of the season map based on player feedback, introduced high-stakes ...
