About this game

The streets are dangerous. Fear spreads with every body found. In 4 Penny Coffins, one player takes on the role of the Ripper - a demonic murderer with the urge to kill - while others work to uncover the truth before the next murder.
A new take on the typical social deception genre!
Gather evidence from crime scenes, question suspects, track suspicious behavior, and piece together clues. The Ripper must deceive and redirect suspicion while avoiding detection. Investigators must separate fact from fiction before paranoia tears the group apart.
Trust is fragile. Evidence can be faked. And time is not on your side.
Each night follows a deliberate three-phase cycle.
The Ripper hunts. Players investigate. Then, in a formal and organized Conviction phase, evidence is weighed and a verdict is delivered. No endless shouting. No stalled discussions. Every round reaches a resolution.
With dynamic roles and player-driven outcomes, every session unfolds differently. Playable solo or in multiplayer, 4 Penny Coffins blends social deduction with investigative mechanics to create tense, unpredictable matches where trust is earned slowly and lost instantly. Someone will hang for these crimes. Make sure it isn’t you.

DEV DIARY 6c: A Look at Doctors
Doctors investigate the murder through blood splatter. Doctor profession icon; Doctor collecting blood splatter evidence; full-body front-view of Doctor.Their blood splatter kit allows them to collect blood evidence from the crime scene and compare it against blood splatter produced by different weapons. When a murder occurs, blood splatter is left around the body. A Doctor can use their splatter kit at the crime scene to document that evidence. But knowing what the blood looks like isn't enough. Doctors needs to figure out which weapon created it. Different weapons produce different blood splatter patterns. During the investigation, Doctors can purchase weapons from market stalls and take them back to the hospital laboratory. There, they can swing the weapon against a chunk of meat to produce its blood splatter pattern. That pattern is added to their blood splatter kit and labelled with the weapon that created it. By comparing the pattern from the murder with the patterns produced by different weapons, Doctors can determine which weapon may have been used to commit the crime. And because weapons can be connected to other evidence found throughout Whitechapel, that information can give the rest of the investigation another way to narrow down the suspects. DEV DIARY 6b: A Look at Police
Police investigators specialize in fingerprint evidence. Police profession icon; Police inspecting footprints; full-body front-view of Police.Using their fingerprint kit, Police players can collect fingerprints from other players and compare them against fingerprints found on objects throughout Whitechapel. Collecting fingerprints requires ink, which can be purchased from vendors. Once a Police player has ink, they can take another player's fingerprints and add them to their fingerprint log. The log keeps track of which fingerprint belongs to which player, giving Police investigators a way to identify fingerprints they discover during the investigation. That becomes especially useful when a fingerprint is found on an item connected to the murder. Police players can compare the fingerprint on a weapon against the prints they've collected, potentially connecting a player to a weapon involved in the crime! And fingerprints aren't necessarily harmless evidence for the Ripper, either. If the Ripper is carrying fingerprint evidence that they haven't disclosed, other players can see that they're carrying that evidence during the investigation and conviction phases. That gives the rest of the group a reason to question why someone is holding onto evidence instead of sharing. Of course, the Ripper knows this, too! So, they may decide to hide evidence somewhere in Whitechapel before anyone notices. DEV DIARY 6a: A Look at News Hawks
News Hawks are investigators of information in Whitechapel. News Hawk profession icon; News Hawk taking a camera; full-body front-view of News Hawk.Using their camera, News Haws can take photographs of other players and bring those photos to witnesses throughout the city. Witnesses can then provide information about whether the person in the photograph passed through their area before the murder. But getting that information isn't quite as simple as pointing the camera and asking questions. News Hawks need film to take photographs, and they'll need to find witnesses around Whitechapel who can provide useful information. Each witness only knows what they've seen, so a News Hawk may need to visit several witnesses to build a clearer picture of a player's movements. As information is collected, it is added to the back of the photograph as a sketch map showing where that player was seen. That information can become valuable evidence during the investigation. If a player's movements don't line up with what they've claimed, you may have found something worth investigating. There's just one problem: witnesses can be bribed! The Ripper can pay witnesses to lie about what they've seen, and witness won't tell you if they've been bribed. The only way to determine whether a witness has been compromised is by finding bribery records. So, when a News Hawk brings you information, you'll still need to decide whether you can trust the source. DEV DIARY 6: A Look at the Professions
In Whitechapel, everyone has a role to play. When a murder occurs in Ripper Mode, figuring out who is responsible means gathering evidence, comparing information, and working together to separate the truth from the lies. That's where professions come in. At the start of each match, players will be able to choose from one of three professions: News Hawk, Police, or Doctor. Each profession has its own jobs, investigation tools, and ways of gathering evidence. No single profession has everything they need to identify the Ripper. You'll need to work together, share what you've discovered, and hopefully figure out who you can trust! Join us throughout the week as we look at the News Hawk, Police, and Doctor professions to see how each one works in detail! The icons for Police, Doctor, and News Hawk. Players will see these above job boards and other areas. While each profession specializes in a different type of investigation, everyone can contribute to the investigation. Players can use a magnifying glass to trace the Ripper's footprints, for example. The footprints left before and after the murder are visually distinct, allowing investigators to follow the killer's movements around Whitechapel. The Ripper can be a News Hawk, Police, or Doctor just like everyone else. They have access to the same profession-specific tools and jobs, meaning that the person helping you investigate the murder could also be the person who committed it. So, choose your profession carefully.
