In Decadent Heir, you'll step into the shoes of a Decadent Heir in 19th-century Russia. Will you uphold tradition or ignite change? Your choices will rewrite history and define your legacy.
About this game
Assume the role of a nobleman in the late 19th century and journey through the defining moments of his life, starting from birth. Your decisions will shape his character and determine his ultimate destiny.
Alongside your hero, confront the era's systemic injustices and personal challenges, navigating dramatic events within your family and relationships. As he matures, cultivate essential skills that will influence his future. Choose your path—pursue an education, forge a military career enduring the trials of the Russo-Japanese War and World War I, embark on a civil service career while sidestepping political intrigue, or join the revolutionaries and lead the charge.
Choose to pursue power with bold, decisive action—or opt for a more cautious path. Forge alliances or risk creating adversaries. Will you relentlessly chase ambition, or dedicate yourself to protecting your family from strife?

A gloomy St. Petersburg, February 1917. The nearly 200-year history of the Russian Empire has ended.
The Romanov dynasty is no longer in power.
In the aftermath, a civil war ensued, a revolutionary experiment unfolded, resulting in approximately 4 million deaths in combat and over 10 million more succumbing to hunger, deprivation, and disease.
Could history have taken a different path?
The seven days of February merely served as the trigger for long-accumulated societal tensions.
Could the military have supported the emperor and prevented him from abdicating the throne? And what if, instead of Lenin, another person had emerged as the leading revolutionary?

You'll experience every stage of life—childhood, adolescence, youth, and adulthood—up to the first week of the revolution.
The Role of the Individual in History
The game's story is a complex web of conditions, choices, and their consequences. As you make decisions throughout various scenes, you will affect not only yourself, but also those around you, your family, society, and the fate of the entire nation.
Engaging with historical figures
Rasputin, Lenin, Kornilov, and Stolypin are some of the key historical figures you'll encounter in the game. What would have happened if Lenin had not become the leading revolutionary?
You will decide whether to aid them or oppose them. Will they become your enemies or allies?
The road to all accomplishments lies ahead
Shape your identity from birth by developing charisma, empathy, perseverance, agility, and intelligence. The combination of these traits will unlock unique skills and abilities, each capable of radically altering the course of history.
Talent System
Your power as a Decadent is revealed through unique mystical abilities. With each new rebirth, you not only retain memories of past lives but also acquire new talents. Begin by choosing one of four core talents:
"Nostradamus" – foresee consequences,
"Trickster’s Smile" – bypass limitations,
"Indomitable" – enhance stamina and activity,
"Prodigy" – reduce risks.
With every playthrough, your arsenal of abilities will expand, unlocking new paths and opportunities to reshape history.
Risk Mechanics in Decision-Making
A flexible decision-making system allows you to make almost any choice, regardless of your character’s stats. Want to engage in combat despite being physically weak? Or persuade an opponent without the necessary charisma? Now you can—but be warned, every risky decision can have serious consequences. The further your stats are from the required values, the higher the chance of failure. Make your decisions according to your instincts, not just the numbers.

Post-Playtest Plans for Improving the Game

Before we talk about our plans for improving the game, we would like to thank everyone who took part in the playtest, especially those who shared their feedback. We received quite a lot of it, so it took some time to carefully go through the responses and put together a proper improvement plan. Players who tried the playtest version: 1,600 Players who earned the “Complete the Playtest” achievement: 526 526 players will be able to receive the reward at release. This is a fairly high percentage, and we are very happy to see it. Planned Improvements 1) UI Navigation Improvements - Add an alternative navigation option where pop-up panels open on hover instead of requiring a click, as they currently do. Right now, hover-based pop-ups only appear for text hints, while other icons and choices in the game need to be clicked. - Adjust the position of pop-up panels so they do not cover the text. - Add tooltips for tabs. - Make interactive text hints more visually clear by highlighting them in a hyperlink-like style: blue and underlined. This should help players immediately understand that the text is interactive. 2) Fonts - Update the current font and make it more suitable and readable. - Add Chinese localization along with a suitable font. 3) Audio - Adjust the default volume balance for dialogue, sound effects, and music. 4) Gameplay - Add a story flowchart. The flowchart will gradually fill in as the player progresses through the game and will show story branches wherever possible. This will help players understand that they can return and try a different option that may change the story. - The “Nostradamus” talent will be moved to the game settings. Decadent Heir Playtest Is Live! Rewards for Participants!
Hello everyone! I have two important updates to share with you. First: Russian Games Festival 2026 is happening on Steam right now — an annual online festival of Russian games that brings together developers from Russia and other countries around the world. You can expect exclusive trailers, discounts, demos, and updates for all kinds of games. Second: Decadent Heir is also taking part in the festival. And to celebrate the occasion, I’m happy to announce that the Playtest is now live! Everyone who signed up in advance has already received access. New requests will also be approved manually throughout the Playtest. Don’t worry: everyone who wants to take part will be able to get access. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can still do it now. Decadent Heir playtest starts May 1!

Start Date: May 1 How long will the Playtest last? The Playtest begins on May 1 at 11:00 AM PDT and ends on May 15 at 11:00 AM PDT. That gives you exactly two weeks to take part and earn a unique reward. Why join? We already shared the full Playtest details in one of our previous announcements, but we’ve made a small change to the reward requirements. Originally, players had to unlock the "Hat-trick" Steam achievement. Now, you only need to earn the "Finish Playtest" achievement instead. In other words, all you have to do is finish the Playtest version of the game. Our internal testing showed that the "Hat-trick" achievement was too difficult and could be misleading for some players, so we decided to simplify the requirement. The reward itself has not changed. You’ll still receive the "Lucky Charm" talent, which improves your luck on risky choices. It will become available when the full version of the game launches. Most of the work is done by me: narrative design, historical research, scene writing, and Unity assembly. A programmer and UI designer assist on a contract basis when specific technical tasks need to be solved. The biggest challenge is not letting historical figures become lifeless cardboard silhouettes. When you meet Rasputin, Stolypin, or Lenin, they will be living, complex people with conflicting motivations — not mythologized icons from textbooks. I work with primary sources: memoirs, diaries, letters. I search for small human details that can be woven naturally into the narrative. For example, that Kerensky was a sickly, limping boy suffering from bone tuberculosis, or that Vladimir Ulyanov’s brother was hanged and buried in a mass grave behind the fortress wall. No ideology.
