Dive into the chilling depths of Crathos Deep, an adventure game where you navigate an Arctic submarine and explore a lost research institute with your expeditionary drone.

About this game

Secrets are buried beneath the ice sheets and the freezing waters of the Arctic Ocean. Pilot your submarine below the frost to explore a vast marine world. Investigate and uncover to delve deeper and unravel a chilling mystery. Will you be able to find out what happened at Crathos Deep?

Set in the dark, cold depths of the Arctic Ocean, you descend into a Lovecraftian sci-fi adventure. With a sense of exploration, mystery, and creeping dread, you will uncover the horrible truth behind a lost research institute that operated in an undiscovered region in the Arctic seabed — known only as Crathos Deep.

In Crathos Deep, you play as a submarine pilot turned marine investigator, hired by a news outlet to look into an underwater science operation after an anonymous tip about a covered-up accident. Utilizing your expeditionary hub, you will piece together narrative clues, solve mysteries, and figure out your next course of action.

Discover the oppressive oceanic scenery of Crathos Deep at your own pace, in the exact order you want. Through immersive piloting, you will come across various abandoned research facilities, grim seabed vistas, and mysterious eldritch remains.

Your submarine is perfectly suited for traversing the vast world beneath the ice sheets, but much less so for reaching the tight, cramped spaces you will need to explore to truly understand what transpired. With your expeditionary drone, you will be able to get into any hidden nook and cranny, any cave or air vent — any place that might conceal disturbing yet vital information.

The submerged research stations will be difficult to navigate. Your drone needs to be tethered to use all of its features, and its small size puts you at the mercy of the physicality of the ocean. In order to truly get to the bottom of what happened at Crathos Deep, you must work with the physics of the world, be aware of your surroundings, and overcome various challenges with your drone’s mechanical features.

At the core of the cosmic horror genre and the writings of H.P. Lovecraft lies the idea that true horror comes from realizations — from adding two and two together and learning that the universe is larger and more terrifying than we previously could have imagined. In Crathos Deep, it is you as the player who will make these discoveries.

December Logbook — Preparing for Expedition

Expedition drawing closer. Need to inspect vehicles before heading out. Environments are expected to be treacherous; a malfunction could mean failure or worse. It’s been a little over a month since our announcement, and it’s been incredibly fun to see everyone's reactions. We’re closing in on 10,000 wishlists and it's super heartwarming that so many people are interested in Crathos Deep! All the excitement is really pushing us to make the best game we possibly can. In the coming months, we will be going through the wreckfinder's logbook to give you a deeper insight into the various features and world of Crathos Deep. In this first entry, you will get an overview of the two key vehicles you will use on your deep sea expeditions. Orca — Swift and Heavy Orca inspection complete. Hull integrity was found to be satisfactory. Rudder tuned for more precise steering. In Crathos Deep you are a wreckfinder: a marine investigator who specializes in determining the cause of maritime disasters. This time around, you're hired by a news outlet to find out what happened to the secretive research organization — known as the E.S.F — operating in underwater stations in the Arctic depths. A whistleblower has made it known that the organization is trying to cover up an accident at their facilities, and it’s your job to verify and investigate that lead. First and foremost, you have to find these research stations located in the extremely remote region of Crathos Deep. And to do that you use your trusted, industrial-grade submersible Orca to navigate. It’s been tuned and tinkered with for years in order to excel at this very particular task. We want piloting the submersible to feel heavy in just the right way. Deliberate, yet mobile and precise when you need to dodge between the jagged rocks and hanging icebergs. Much like the orca it was named after. And like an orca, it can use a form of echolocation. Not a lot of light is able to peer through the thick ice sheets, and the darkness will...
