Before You Buy

Eufloria Classic is a re-release of the original version of Eufloria (2009), with some modern quality of life changes, and not a new Eufloria game nor a sequel to Eufloria HD (2014). It is a “warts and all” anniversary release, with only non-disruptive changes or objective improvements made. Anything that affects the “feel” of the original Eufloria has remained unchanged.

Is this for me?

While Eufloria HD boasts a number of improvements lacking in Eufloria Classic, we are offering a number of things not available elsewhere:
  • It is the only release that supports mods and custom levels, and is backward compatible with all previously released mods that work with the original game.
  • We included two entirely new game modes, with two sample levels per mode. We plan to release more together with the modding community.
  • Entirely new music from the original composer for the game, Milieu.
  • Finally; for some people the original version is the preferred version, despite its limitations, and this allows them to play it once again, pretty much exactly how they remembered it.

Eufloria Classic is free to all owners of Eufloria (2009), simply update and launch that version in your Steam library to see a new option to play Eufloria Classic. It is also heavily discounted for owners of Eufloria HD (2014) via the Steam bundle linked above.

Eufloria (2009) is from a bygone age of small monitors, and as such does not always play nicely with high resolution displays (1440p/4K). The game will still run at high resolutions, but your mileage may vary on visual scaling. If you have a 1440p or higher display, we recommend downloading the demo first to make sure the game displays correctly for you.

If you do encounter issues, there might still be workarounds. These are listed and kept up to date on our Steam forums.

Grow your own Units

Conquer asteroids in space and use their resources to grow floral creatures that do the player's bidding. Expand your empire and fight for resources against several teams of opponents that all vie for the same resources and can offer fierce opposition.

Timeless, Gorgeous and Accessible

Presented in a unique and gorgeous floral aesthetic, the game can be played competitively or in a relaxed, ambient style. You choose how to play.

Endless Replayability

Along a 25 level campaign mode, a host of additional modes offer procedural levels that offer endless replayability. Add to that a vast number of mods and user levels plus an active mod community and you will not soon run out of challenges.

Features:

  • 25 level Single player campaign
  • 8 Level “Skirmish Mode”
  • Unlockable “Dark Matter” mode
  • Hours of wonderful ambient music by “Milieu”
  • Procedural levels – great for replayability
  • Community levels
  • And more
But to celebrate the new release and reward loyal fans we have also added:
  • New “Regrowth” Game Mode
  • New "Gardening" Mode
  • New original music by “Milieu"
  • Enhanced modding options
  • Game Speedup buttons
  • A whole treasure trove of bonus files, art, stories, and concepts
  • Updated UI support
  • Updated Demo

Eufloria 2 Is in Development, but Ever Wonder How Eufloria Got Its Name?

Let’s gather around the campfire and tell you a story, friends. It’s the story that reveals how Eufloria got its name, and how it nearly got a different name. Everybody cozy? Yes? Alright, let’s begin.Did you know that Eufloria originally had a different name? If you do, you probably know it was first called “Dyson”, but you might not know why we chose it, nor why we changed it, so let’s go waaaaay back to 2008 where it all began. In those days Alex May (Original Eufloria programmer/co-creator) was very active on an indie games forum called TigSource, run by Derek Yu, developer of Spelunky (and many other great games). TigSource regularly ran competitions for indie devs to create small games following a unique theme. Alex told me about the new one which was to make a game that made heavy use of procedural generation. Having been somewhat obsessed with procedural generation for some time I thought it was a great theme and we decided to enter it.I was also a big fan of the ideas of Freeman Dyson – theoretical physicist extraordinaire – and figured that mixing his Dyson Tree and Astrochicken concepts in a game setting would make for an interesting, procedural playground. I set to work with gusto and pretty soon had the basic design for a game that would fit the competition theme. The core loop features these pillars:Self-replicating autonomous terraforming automata, mining and exploiting asteroid resources in asteroid belts and clustersUsing those resources to build Dyson Trees to grow more automataHaving done so for aeons, and lost their original purposeLocked into a perpetual war with other colonies of expanding automata empires, vying for the same resourcesAnd to honour the great man at the source of many of the ideas we called the game Dyson. It took us six weeks (I think) to finish a competition-ready build, and we ended up earning second place, after “Rescue the Beagles”.During those weeks and in the period immediately after, something quite magical happened. Devs ...
