1k Wishlists + Demo Update
"We'll live in Dreamland night and day."After slow and steady progress, VERISMO has surpassed 1,000 wishlists!I was going to wait to make this post until June, which is the 2-ish year anniversary since I started working on VERISMO, but I figured this is a good enough excuse to celebrate early and share some updates.By random chance, an old meme animation I made 3 years ago got picked up by the Youtube algorithm (you can find the youtube link on the main store page), and I seized the opportunity to shamelessly promote my game, of course!I've been accumulating about 1-2 wishlists a day since I've been more focused development than marketing, but enough people have been discovering my game through that youtube video alone that I went from 950 to almost 1,100 wishlists in 48 hours! I am extremely grateful for all the new support and interest. Here's the carnival entrance mostly cleaned up and ready to explore. The sign seems to be missing something once atop it...There is still a LOT to do, namely cutscene sprites and illustrations. But backgrounds for the full demo are about 90% done. Writing is close to polished, bugs getting fixed every day... Almost all the music is implemented and locked in. Whenever I play through the game to get a feel for pacing and engagement, I'm quite literally giddy with excitement. I think it's going to be a really special story but I'll ultimately let you be the judge of that."..."The next update's gonna be a big one; see you in late summer.Read full article on Community Announcements (StarAniseGames)Patch NotesOfficial
Updated Key Rebinding
A small update to remove the plugin I was using for key rebinding. I wanted to include AZERTY keyboard options but since default controls are either WASD or arrow keys, I figured it's a fine compromise for now. Proper key rebinding options will be supported in the future. It was removed because it was strange to be stuck with only Z to confirm on the main menu. Now:"Z", "Enter" or "Space" to confirmWASD or arrow keys to moveRead full article on Community Announcements (StarAniseGames)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Update 1
Better give them a show, then. What's new in this update?A SPOOKY new intro teeming with mysteryNew original tracks as well as public domain music remixed to perfection. Demo will no longer flag any copyrighted music.Revamped UI, though it's not completeUpdated footstep sounds that change with the terrainAdded an indicator over most interactable items, focusing on the more story relevant finds.Tightened some writingBugfixes:Made it clearer that you could talk to Papà and Ennio in the orchard, as well as interact with the orchard workersFixed sprites weirdly flickeringFixed title screen going to black after the demo endedMade player unable to walk over the split olive oil (you can try...)Fixed clipping through the exterior house stairsFixed many grammatical errorsFixed multiple collision errorsKnown bugs:I left in some playtesting saves by mistakes, if you try to load them they'll either crash the game or you'll get an invalid load. This will be fixed next update. If you run into any other issues, or have thoughts on the demo in general, please let me know in the steam discussions or a review! It helps a lot for the game's visibility and helps me know what I need to prioritize.Eventual fixes:Proper key rebinding. The current method is a bandaid.Polished UI, some text is hard to readI'm still chugging along through the final demo. This was a good chance to refine what I currently have. I plan to update this tiny demo version more frequently leading to the final demo's release. I'm still aiming for a summer release and will continue to keep you all updated here.If you read this far thank you for the warm reception to VERISMO so far, it's incredibly encouraging to see.Read full article on Community Announcements (StarAniseGames)AnnouncementsOfficial
End of the Year Updates + 2026 Wishes
Backstage, where the performers prepare and stave off the December cold...Hard to believe it's been a year and a half since I started working on VERISMO.I thought I’d be much further along in development by now, but the extra time has given me a lot of inspiration to polish everything I’m working on. It will be worth the wait. Some interesting stats...This year I started tracking my hours more diligently, and I did over 400 hours of work on VERISMO. That includes art, programming, writing, music, the whole shebang. Also:17 fully animated character spritesOver 100 unique animationsFinished most of the additional demo maps, 13 new ones + all night scenesHired musicians to recreate classical and 1910s-20s melodies as MIDI files for my remixing pleasureWrote a couple original tracks tooWrote a lot of the final script + many optional interactionsLots of stressful coding to get the world interactable, collisions, all that jazzImplemented a custom, simple UIFixed bugs and QOL mentioned in the current demo, to be updated soon!Goals for January:Sometime next month I'd like to make minor updates to the current demo. Nothing major, just some bug fixes, music additions, and possibly the new intro.Final Demo Goals:I’m hoping to finish it by early summer. Could be sooner, could be later, I’m realizing it’s impossible for me to say when because everything is in active development. Once I settle on design choices and some programming things, development should go much smoother. The town square of Lacrime.Where to follow for more frequent updates:I have a Youtube channel where I was posting weekly development shorts. I'm taking a break for a month or so, but definitely follow me there to see more behind the scenes and progress. With that said, have a lovely rest of the year, and I can't wait to share more of this story with you in 2026!Read full article on Community Announcements (StarAniseGames)Patch NotesOfficial
Little Update
On a chilly December evening in 1925, the stage is set...It's been a year since I started working on Verismo with my complete focus. There's been plenty of breaks and empty days but just as many intense weeks of focus.I can't believe it's been almost 6 months since I uploaded the demo. Time is flying fast. Before I disappear into the void again I wanted to share how my babies have changed over the year. The main cast in June 2024 (the first time I drew any of them. I had no clue what style to go for)The main cast today. Looking spiffy.I've been mulling over my progress since I uploaded the demo in January. I've decided to think of that demo as my first "game", the final demo as the second game, and the release as my third. I feel a little more accomplishment having finished the first step of this journey. My goal is to finish this next demo by the end of the year. There is a ton of art to do up-front, but because it all takes place in one town, it'll cut back on the art I have to do later, hopefully.Anyway.A dopo.Read full article on Community Announcements (StarAniseGames)
