Monthly Development Update - September 2026

The Necrolord update has now been out for a week and judging by the player feedback and activity on the Steam discussion boards and Discord, it’s been very well received. There are some minor balance issues and bugs that still need to be ironed out and you can expect a small update next week addressing these.Like with the previous larger updates, you can expect some smaller ones to follow the Necrolord update, bringing small content additions and changes to the game. As mentioned in the previous update post I’m not entirely happy with how ‘samey’ the current races feel and in the next smaller content update you can expect each race to receive passive effects that can be build enabling/altering. In the updates after that you can expect to see some reworks of older less-used abilities and maybe even a new companion or two?So, what’s the next -big- thing coming to the game? One of the most frequent pieces of feedback and criticism I’ve received from players is that the small, arena-like environments are too simple and boring and I couldn’t agree more. I’m planning on making the normal Dark Rituals a bit more exciting by adding elements of exploration to them, increasing the map size to match the current Shattered Dark Rituals and maybe even adding a few secrets to be discovered. The plan is to gradually convert all normal rituals into these larger ones and you can expect them to arrive one ritual per update. Bundled with these updates will also be new minor content. If you prefer the smaller arenas, the Arena of Ikar will remain in its current form. And for those wondering what’s taking so long with achievements and translations, worry not. Both are still coming to the game before it reaches 1.0. The reason why I’m leaving achievements as one of the last things to add is that the game is still constantly changing and I don’t want to add achievements that might later have to be removed or changed, forcing players to complete them again. Let me know in the comments below ...

0.21.0 Early Access - Major Update

The scent of the grave hangs thick in the cold air… Here we are. It took a while and a bit more, but the first new class since the Early Access release of Conquest Dark is here. Let me present you…New Class: Necrolord Necrolord is a class that brings together three different fantasies (all highly requested by players) into one.As a master of the undead, it can raise the dead to fight alongside you, fulfilling the Necromancer fantasy. It can curse the living, slowing them down and rotting them away with damage over time effects, fulfilling the Warlock fantasy. And with heavy armor, melee weapons, and a touch of the frozen wastes, it also delivers on the Death Knight fantasy.Necrolord comes with a full set of abilities built around each of these three archetypes, which you can freely mix and match to create your perfect dark fantasy champion together with new artifacts, armor, runes and powerful eldritch items.New Feature: Allies and Companions The most technically complex change coming with this update is the addition of Allies and Companions. These are non-player-controlled characters that fight alongside the player, scale with most player stats, and can even be issued simple command to focus their attacks on the player’s selected target. The Allies and Companions arriving with this update are only the beginning and you can expect to see more of them in future updates. Would you like a fierce dire wolf at your side or perhaps a savage red-haired warrioress fighting alongside you? Tell us what you’d like to see in the comments below.New Race: ForlornTo double down on the dark fantasy theme, there’s also a new race: Forlorn. These former Auraboreans, now exiled to the north, have spent their time learning to commune with the dead and draw forbidden knowledge directly from the ominous Black Planet.Developer Note: Right now all of the races feel a bit too ‘samey’. I’m going to address this in an upcoming smaller update by giving each race truly unique, build-changing pas...

Monthly Development Update - August 2026

The next large update to the game is just around the corner, arriving in the second week of September (if everything goes as planned). The new class is now finished and I’m currently testing and balancing it while also creating new artifacts, uniques and eldritch items to support a wide variety of builds centered around the class. However it’s not the only new thing coming with the update. In this blog I want to introduce a new gameplay system called Runewords. As many of you can probably guess it takes heavy inspiration from Diablo 2’s runeword system while adding its own unique twist to it.Placing three or five runes into an ability forms a runeword. There are over 100 million possible combinations and by default roughly fourth of them are valid runewords. Once the final rune of a valid runeword is placed, the runeword activates and grants the character a random global stat bonus. These bonuses are not pre-designed and can vary wildly in both the number of stats they provide and the ranges of those stats. Runewords are deterministic, meaning the same runeword will provide the same effect for every player. Runewords are not a grind-based power system, but a discovery-based one. Players are not expected to test every possible rune combination one by one in search of the best options (it would be impossible), but instead runewords are intended to be discovered naturally while playing and experimenting with different builds.Runewords are meant to be a “lifetime” and community-based system. There is always a possibility that someone will discover a more powerful runeword and share it with the community (or keeps it to themselves), even years after the game has been released.Alongside the runeword system comes a new stat called Runeword Discovery. This stat increases the number of valid runewords in the pool, causing previously inactive runewords to become active. It further expands the possibilities of discovering that truly powerful, game-breaking runeword. With that it...

Monthly Development Update - July 2026

The next major update focuses on the new class and it’s been really hard to pick topics to talk about and show work-in-progress assets without giving too much away or spoiling things. That said, one of the new additions coming with the update is a new damage type, Umbral Damage. While the existing damage types are tied to the old primordial gods and the cosmic sun and moon goddesses, this new one revolves around the mysterious Black Planet. This new damage type is not fully exclusive to the new class, as it can also be used by the Thief, whose abilities and masteries have been adjusted around it. Naturally with a new damage type we also get a new condition, Cursed. Cursed enemies deal 50% less damage, move 50% slower and take 25% increased damage, but there are also other synergies tied to new abilities and artifacts that can turn the curse for example into a powerful damage over time effect. And what would new damage type and condition be without some new runes? The update introduces new Abyss Runes in which you can find your standard damage and condition related runes, the ability to convert existing abilities into Umbral damage and a bunch of new ones which will be revealed later. With how things are currently progressing it looks like the update will be out the first or second week of September. It’s taking a long time, but I want to make sure that everything is done with the highest quality I can reach alone and that unfortunately takes it’s own time. Let me know what you think about the new stuff coming and your own speculations of what the new class is going to be. Until next month. - Irmstoi, Conquest Dark Solo Dev
