In Torment Hexus, guide your character through a technofascist world by charging spells and casting them tactically. Climb the tower, defeat the boss, and hope to change the game's outcome.
About this game
Torment Hexus is a cyberpunk match-3 roguelike. Match elemental tokens on your wristcomp to generate mana, then use that mana to unleash elemental fury on the guards, robots, and bizarre bio-cybernetic creations of an evil corporate tower. Your goal? The CEO at the top, who you'll be showing the express elevator to ground level, via a window.
En route, you'll need to slot new spell chips into your wristcomp, grab relics from your enemies' smouldering remains, and engage with dozens of nuanced text encounters. Encourage laborers to unionize, cheat the guards in a card game, sabotage experiments, and trade for gear and info in an illicit black market.

Torment Hexus v0.51 patch notes
The big one here is I fixed the "allies are enemies for one turn" bug. Sorry about that! It was a build-only bug, i.e. didn't reproduce inside the editor, which made it harder to track down than expected. Gameplay/Balance changes: - Using water to put out fire tiles now creates a protective steam cloud, instead of a damaging burst of steam. Using fire on Wet combatants still creates the steam burst. - Reduced the flame-gathering range of Fire Tornado from 4 to 3; reduced targeting range from 7 to 5. Holy cow, how overpowered WAS this spell originally?! - Magshield will still create counterattacks when you're hit for 0 damage. - Orichalcum Bomb now works with Reallocate and Cluster Grenade. - Cluster Grenade loses 1 subfragment (the v2 spell keeps all 5). - Big Red Button now has a 5-turn cooldown instead of being 1x/fight. - Common Ground is now cheaper than its upgrade, instead of vice-versa. - Reduced cost of Contempt Draught from 6 to 4. - The Jotun's mines can be destroyed. Bugfixes: - Fix a bug causing summoned allies to be flagged as enemies for the first round of their existence. This was a weird one! - Fix a crash when cleaning up status effects. - Fix player's movement being wasted if they click on themselves after having set a movement waypoint. - Safety Protocols no longer stops Canine Implant's damage overflow or other "revenge"/"damage share" effects. - Spells that move the player (e.g. Power Slam) also slide the match-3 board. - Fix Plush Tapir's HP reward being inconsistent. - Chickenscratch Map can only replace regular map fights (and not e.g. ambushes or event fights). - Acrobatic Ribbon now works properly with long-distance teleports. - Cluster Grenade shows its explosion AOE when targeting. - Fix Cluster Grenade's subfragments sometimes failing to explode. - Fix being able to get wholly inappropriate items from events if you already have every item that the event is coded to allow you to receive. You now get a random item from the common/uncommon/...Read full article on Community Announcements (TooMuchAbstraction)Patch NotesOfficial
Torment Hexus v0.50 patch notes
Gameplay/balance changes: - All events in the Labs and Penthouse biomes have been re-paginated and color added to their texts, to hopefully help legibility. - Added several new events to Labs and Penthouse, and associated items and fights. - Add a button to the pre-run screen to fully-randomly-pick all remaining spells. - Fire Tornado's damage has been decreased (from 5/6 per fire to 3/4 per fire) - Banshee 2 has improved mana storage. - Stencil is limited to 1x/turn. - Rage Spray is limited to 1x/enemy/turn. - Changes to Tempo are flagged in the combat log. - The end-run screen uses a differently-colored border for spells that were equipped during the final battle. - Software and food items are noted as such in their descriptions. - Reduced casting cost of Impale and Spinkick. Bugfixes: - Hopefully fix a bug that could cause paranoia modifiers to apply twice. - Fix summons (e.g. Pillar, Spirit Fragment) leaving behind invisible corpses that Revenant could turn into allied zombies. - Fix mages being unwilling to cast summoning spells (specifically Extinguisher, Smartstorm, and Smartknife). - Safety Protocols don't block self-damage, e.g. from poison, Panic Button, etc. - Worn-Out Wristcomp won't generate new spells with low durability. - Music spells don't double-charge for mana on the turn they are cast. - Fix Reallocate not reliably hitting enemies / adding mana drain statuses. - Fix a bug causing status effects to fail to spawn when there are valid tokens on the match-3 grid. - Fix a bug in the pre-run spell selection screen that could allow players to be unable to choose a utility spell. - Chickenscratch Map is unable to override ambush fights. - The final boss is visibly tagged as human. - Fix UI issue on end-run screen. - Toolbox can only take effect once (as was always intended). - Synthsoft is now actually software. - Fix misc typos in events. - Fix Lounge Mage event potentially being unable to display all of the player's potential options.Read full article on Community Announcements (TooMuchAbstraction)Patch NotesOfficial
Torment Hexus v0.49 patch notes
Hey folks, just a small patch to fix a couple of crash bugs. Gameplay/balance changes: - Tweak the visuals for the Whirlwind spell. - Add flavor text for graffiti elementals. - New paranoia modifier: Armored Personnel. Bugfixes: - Fix potential crash due to lack of thread safety. - Fix crash when getting bonked by enemies with special melee effects. - Claw Hammer now works with Razorwire. - Flag some enemy abilities as "unmutable"; in particular, this fixes dolphins and the final boss being immobilized by Red Tape. - The combat log is a bit better about explaining where damage comes from. - Fix the combat log's small box being visible on the pause screen. - Fix misleading text in Principal Mage's description (her damage share works as long as interns are anywhere on the battlefield).Read full article on Community Announcements (TooMuchAbstraction)Patch NotesOfficial
Torment Hexus v0.48 patch notes
Gameplay/balance changes: - Enemies with "instant" damage abilities now mark the tiles they could hit next turn, when you select their tile. - If an enemy is human, robot, or flying, this is mentioned in their creature info card. - New Body spell: One-Inch Punch. - New Paranoia modifiers: Worn-Out Wristcomp (spells can break) and Safety Protocols (enemies can't hurt each other). - 4 new item syntheses and a couple of new regular items. - Replace the Tampon item with Windlass Tourniquet to avoid propagating harmful urban legends. Saves that have the old item will lose them, sorry! - Platinum Padlock gives a shield that blocks 10 damage, instead of providing full immunity. - Added access to the pause screene from the post-fight rewards screen, spell swap screen, and spell upgrade screen. - Added access to the combat log on the end-run screen. - Fires may no longer be summoned on a tile that is already on fire. Bugfixes: - Disable unused draw layers; this may result in a minor performance improvement during combat. - Switched to forward rendering; this also may result in a performance improvement. - When combatants get pushed or have their facing change, they update their warning tiles; should fix (again) the final boss' super move lying about which tiles it would hit. - Fix music spells not being re-castable while active. - Fix Body/Cyber/Formwork/Graffiti domains not being pickable by the "Random" option. - Fix spell picking UI allowing you to skip taking domains in favor of more utility spells. - Fix combatants casting spells toward the top-left when they can't target anything else. - Fix allied combatants' summoning spells summoning enemies instead of allies. - Fix 12-Pack synthesis not spawning. - Add a "utility domain" icon to the spell picking screen. - Fix Heavy Lifter fight not ending when the boss is bootlooped. - Fix some paranoia modifiers granting the player +30 max HP. - Fix Mana Sludge paranoia modifier allowing upgraded spells to be found. - Fix Fragmen...Read full article on Community Announcements (TooMuchAbstraction)Patch NotesOfficial
Torment Hexus v0.47 patch notes
Gameplay/balance changes: - Added a new music track to the back half of the Labs biome. This track will be added to the official soundtrack on Steam momentarily. - Added a prototype assitive input (bound to Q on keyboard, or the left face button on gamepads, by default). At the moment, this input jumps the tactical cursor between enemies, ordered by their distance to the player. Feedback welcome! - Added a visual effect when the input mode is changed, for gamepad/keyboard users only - Added a text brightness slider to the options. - Added the player's inventory and spells to the end-run screen. - Add a couple of new items. - Caffeine Pill, Rude Gesture, and Pride Pin are all less common (Rude Gesture drastically so). - Bosses have smaller reward baskets: one boss-tier item and one spell each. - Final boss's dash-punch is restricted to axial directions. - Razorwire is immune to earth-element damage. - Banshee tick damage increased to 5/turn; Banshee 2 gains 3 mana storage. - Unison summons cannot be Haunted/Banshee'd and are immune to Unison damage. - Pillars and other inanimate objects cannot experience doubt. - Catseye Kobold is uncommon. - Add flavor text to Glamorous and Collector. - Adjustable Wrench, Glamorous, and Defunctivore are limited to 1x/enemy/turn. - Titanium Flare's Ignited status cannot stack. - Shop inventory is now correctly restricted to shop-tagged items (so e.g. Fox cannot try to sell you the Rude Gesture unless you sell it to her first). Bugfixes: - Fix one of final boss's moves lying about which tiles it would hit. - Fix champion earth mage's dash punch retargeting if she/the player moved. - Fix Rejuvenate not charging properly off of kills. - Fix Mana Battery being completely broken. - Fix Tango being able to turn damage from bleeds into bleed statuses. - Hopefully fix a rare crash involving status effects. - Enabled vsync, which should hopefully fix reports of screen tearing. - Improve performance when large numbers of damage tiles (e.g. fir...Read full article on Community Announcements (TooMuchAbstraction)
