Playtest version 0.0.6.41 is out!
Hey folks! Apologies for the delay in news about the playtest, I have been regularly updating the build, but I've been spread very thin between all my socials as a currently solo developer. If you want to help see this game to completion, as well as get cool perks like Early Access to and DRM free releases of the most recent builds, consider checking out my Patreon. And if you want to stay up to date with more frequent updates, join me for my game dev streams on Mondays (on Twitch and YouTube).Anyway, onto the changelog since 0.0.6.0!0.0.6.2:Enemy pathfinding has been improved (again). It's getting there!Shops now only show up once you reach a number of rooms into the run to avoid backtracking and seeing them as the first room when you have no money. All shop types in the shop pool for an area are now guaranteed in each run (for now that means one paint shop and one item shop)Fern paint has had the rate at which it accumulates damage buffedClarified some paint mixing UI a bit more (hopefully)0.0.6.41Worked with Kris on the art team to increase color contrast on a bunch of the static assets. Game should "pop" a lot more now. PLEASE let me know what you think.Completely refactored the paint loading system. Rooms that you absolutely slather with paint should load a lot faster and the paint should look the same as when you were last in them.MORE paint mixing clarification (oops). Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the update!Read full article on Community Announcements (SolidplasmaTTV)AnnouncementsOfficial
Playtest Version 0.0.6.0 is out!
Hey folks! Thank you to everyone who's tried the playtest so far, and an even bigger thank you to the folks who tested this build early on Patreon. I'm expecting to hear back from one publisher in particular in the next week, and depending on how that goes, I may need to take the playtest down, but as it stands currently, I aim to keep it up until the end of August.Patreon supporters who have been at the $5 and up tier for at least 3 months at the end of August will receive Beta Steam Keys if I am able to (I need to check how I'm allowed to use them), but please keep in mind, everything I've said so far is subject to change. But enough legal jargon. Here's the changelog for version 0.0.6.0 (up from 0.0.5.8):Buttons UI now correctly recognizes the side mouse buttons, and displays icons for them.Same for PS5 controllers, though the button prompts are the same as the PS4's for the moment.Paint mixing UI has been improved, including an explanation of how to refill your current paint with a paint bucket if they match. The minimap has been overhauled to only display the "!" icons in rooms where there is still something of interest after you've visited them once.GUI is no longer as intrusive when talking to Vicky in the shop, though it will still display your money and sellable items.Removed a debug function that hopefully no one discovered.Minimap has also been scaled down slightly to avoid interfering with gameplay, and a vending machine it was still covering up has moved to the other side of the room in protest.Enemy pathfinding has been significantly improved; they shouldn't freak out in place nearly as often. The Designer Shoes now drain less paint than before per dash, and only drain paint at all if you cross over something besides the paint you have equipped.Game now automatically pauses when the window loses focus.Added a fun effect when you finish off the last enemy in a room with a melee attack, let me know what you think!Thank you for playing! Let me know what you ...Read full article on Community Announcements (SolidplasmaTTV)AnnouncementsOfficial
ART ATTACK PLAYTEST LAUNCHES TOMORROW!
Hey folks!I'm really excited to announce that the free Art Attack Playtest will go live during my Twitch Stream tomorrow, around 6:00 PM EDT!I'm going to post a video about it soon, but we've been struggling to find a publisher, so in the interest of funding the game's continued development, there will be a link to my Patreon on the main menu. Patreon supporters at the $5 tier and up will get more frequent updates to the game and will get steam keys for the full game for staying subscribed. I don't expect to completely fund the game this way, and I'm going to continue seeking out a publisher that aligns with our values. That said, if you know anyone with money who hates GenAI, loves roguelikes, or both, please have them email evan@solidplasmastudios.com.In the meantime, here's a link to one of the many shorts I've been posting about the game over the last month!See you tomorrow!-Solidplasma/EvanRead full article on Community Announcements (SolidplasmaTTV)AnnouncementsOfficial
Free Art Attack Playtest Coming Soon(TM)
Hey folks! It's been a while! I apologize for that, development has slowed down while we look for a publisher.First, I want to thank everyone who played our game at MAGFest in January. We had an amazing time meeting you, and your feedback was invaluable. Most of it has already been implemented. Here's a photo of our booth from the event! Now, for the exciting part: I aim to release a FREE playtest build of Art Attack into the wild, sometime in the next month to month and a half. There are a couple of reasons I'm not giving an exact date or guarantee right now. The first is that, in the name of transparency, development has hit a hitch in terms of funding, and the only way that's likely to be remedied is with external investment, or preferably, a publisher. If you want to get guaranteed access to the game right now, and to support development, you can get access to more frequently updated builds on the Patreon.Get immediate access here! Please be aware, it would take a LOT of patrons staying subscribed for a significant amount of time to fund the rest of development, so we're not banking on this route. That said, everyone who supports is a huge help, and you WILL get immediate access to the most recent version of the game. The second reason I'm not able to give an exact date at the moment, is that I've been doing this long enough to know that if you make a promise in writing and don't keep it, people get rightfully upset. Anyone who has tried to release an indie game in the past ten years knows that standing out in the market (especially these days with so much AI slop), is very difficult, especially with such a small budget. I want to make a marketing push rather than just dropping the playtest without any fanfare, and I want to make sure the playtest has the best chance possible of reaching as many people as possible. I don't want to promise something and be unable to deliver it.I will do everything in my power to have a build of the Playtest out by the end of May.
