Hexachess challenges you to outmaneuver opponents in a unique hexagonal chess setup. Engage in local play, online multiplayer, or face the AI in this strategic twist on classic chess from Tricky Chaos.
About this game
In the beginning was chess, and chess was good. Then chess got too good, and thus chess became less good. But then chess got Hexagon, and harmony ensued.
This is a pretty polished lean implementation of Władysław Gliński's Hexagonal Chess. The game itself is pretty old (~75 years) and got lost to time with its creator's death. It's worth another life.
It's similar to usual chess we all know & love, but it uses hexes instead of default square grid. That changes the whole meta, invalidating tons of pre-existing memorized plays & allowing for actually experiencing the game anew.
Includes:
Hotseat (local multiplayer)
Playing against AI
Online multiplayer with matchmaking
Multiple beautiful maps to play on
Interactive game chat

Second patch: 1.1.2!
Another month, another patch. I'll probably try to keep to at least this schedule to provide some consistency. As promised before - gamepad support is here. It's gonna get better with time, but core bits are in - UI, vibration and the grid itself along with pieces, pawn upgrade and forfeit support. I'm planning to also add 2-controller support for local multiplayer in the future, but for now have prepared no camera rotation mode there that will work nicely in tandem. Another set of improvements is related to UI in general. There's a bit more logic, back button (along with esc) should work as intended in all the windows, buttons themselves are a bit more reactive, disappearing menu bug is fixed. Oh, and there's a 5th level in the game now. Based on Epic Games's Soul: City demo (available on Fab), pretty and dark. As planned - next target is more platforms, Linux & Mac are in the crosshairs. After that - I'm gonna start on the first meaningful feature / content update, Chess Puzzle mode. Got big hopes for that one, wanna play it myself. It should provide a nice core for single player campaign / introduction to the game. Meantime - thx for sticking with the game, talk to you later. /AshRead full article on Community Announcements (D Ash)Patch NotesOfficial
First patch: 1.1.1!
It’s time to start pushing the game closer to everything it can be. Before I jump into new features, modes, meta progression, and extra content, it’s important to tie up the loose ends left over from release. This first 1.1.1 patch aims to do exactly that. It adds: Video & Audio settings (letting you fine-tune the experience for your machine) Credits screen (honoring the people who worked on the game) Forfeit button (so matches with an obvious outcome don’t have to drag on) The name of the opponent you matched with in quick play Game version shown in the menu It also splits networking for the demo and full game into separate buckets to avoid issues later on. With this stuff out of the way, I can finally start focusing on adding more ways to play. That’s the plan for the next couple of patches: more supported operating systems, gamepad support, and some general polish. See you soon. And thanks for picking up the game. Hope you're enjoying it so far.Read full article on Community Announcements (D Ash)
