Publisher Get!
Good news, everyone! {Farnsworth.gif} We have secured a publishing partnership with RisingTide Publishing, wooo!Like Bad Plan, RisingTide is a fairly small, young business in a difficult industry. They are keen to make an impact, and (importantly) we both see eye to eye in terms of business, the industry and shared values. Their Steam page states: It's like you've known us all our life! All our discussions have been direct, no bullshit, and really focussed on a plan to get this game in front of as many people as possible. In honour of the announcement Dan did a video announcement to go with the special Ember-fied version of the publisher logo:And on Ember specifically, the Tide says: "Heartfelt gore meets Isaac in the Gungeon. Also, does Dan really write children's books? I worry about the children. And possibly the books."In announcing this exciting news we'd like to thank the organisers of GAME AiCON Seoul (shoutout to Fred) for bringing together such a great industry event in Korea, as well as all the people who received pitches, gave feedback, and helped refine this game into the ball-to-the-wall proposition that it is.Thanks again for all your support - and, as always, spread the word!Big love, Chad and Dan xoRead full article on Community Announcements (badplanstudios)AnnouncementsOfficial
Ember's Journal 9: Demo Delay and so much more!
It's been a minute - sorry folks! - but we have heaps to update you on. Wishlists are cracking on; Dan and Chad went to Korea; Demo date delayed (are we real now?); grant funding joy (YAY $$$); EMBER ON TV?!; and we sadly farewell Eli from the studio.Let's get into it, shall we?Wishlists have been slow and steady but we had a bit of a bump due to a number of events and showcases, including the Insider Gaming Showcase and the Horror Games Awards Midsummer Showcase. Oh and the game was showcased in Korea. All of this has taken us REALLY REALLY close to 5K wishlists, and we couldn't be happier. Thanks everyone!Big news here is that Chad and Dan visisted Seoul in South Korea for GAME AiCON at the end of May. Fear not, the name stands for 'Asia Indies', not the usual AI, cos you know we are all hand-drawn here. But seriously, this was such a great opportunity to make more friends for Ember. The game was received really well with almost everyone praising the art (natch) and saying it was really unique and stood out. This is super promising for the game in Asian markets, and we heard how Chinese and Japanese players are hungry for unique games that are off-the-wall and weird. Exciting! Finally, early this year we signed an options agreement with Cosmic Scream studios to develop End of Ember into a film or animated TV series. We have a great creative vibe with these folks and wish them all the best in their pitching and funding quest. Hoping to see an animated Ember series soon! So, some big news here too! Unfortunately, as you have probably noticed, we did not release our Demo at the promised time of May, 2026. Hey, we're now just like one of those big studios, making you eat your disappointment. However, we have had some funding success: along with 11 other studios, we have received some funding for the development of End of Ember from the South Australian Film Corporation, the same mob who helped us get to GamesCom last year. We celebrated with a slightly new trailer: What t...Read full article on Community Announcements (badplanstudios)AnnouncementsOfficial
Ember's Journal 8: Demo Announcement!
For this Journel entry we have a huge update: we are announcing our Demo release date! After over a year on Steam everyone can finally look forward to a full demo release in late May, 2026. This will be our main focus for the next few months: we've got lots of systems and content to make, so read on to find out more! Our traction on Steam is slowly improving, and we are now at 3,923 wishlists in total. SO CLOSE to 4k! We've heard that lots of store pages stagnate at 3K and then get more momentum after breaking through 4, fingers crossed! As always, thanks so much to everyone who has wishlisted and told people about the game, we can't thank you enough. Keep that flame burning!Things have been a little slow on the socials front as we have all been preoccupied with events and demo preparation. However we did did really great traction with our 'Ember selfies' series on Instagram during PAX. This involved getting photos of our booth with fans and cosplayers and then adding a sticker with Ember doing a selfies. It was great fun and people loved it - it got heaps of engagement and reach and is probably the most success we've had on socials. Our biggest experience recently was bringing Ember to Penny Arcade Australia for the first time! It was a wild ride, so many people played our ganme, we met some superfans., connected with heaps of content creators, and overall had a great time bringing Ember to the world. Thanks to everyone who visited our booth and loved the game: hope to see you again soon!We have a new alpha build on Steam with moire enemies, swappable weapons, and lots of general improvements (eg you can see how our setting menu is coming along!). So if you haven't played rfecently jump on in and see what's new.Our main focus for development is the demo, which we will publish on Steam in late May, 2026. We can;t wait to share it with players, and cehck out what we have in store:DEMO FEATURES: 20 new weapons Re-jiggered Mutator to upgrade individual weapons Cursed Ite...Read full article on Community Announcements (badplanstudios)AnnouncementsOfficial
Ember's Journal 7: Busy times!!!
Our wishlists are currently sitting at just below 3,300 - we are still feeling good from the Alpha Beta Gamer review and video (see below), and we're hoping that lots of cool activity in the next couple of months should boost that a little further. This should put us roughly on track for the 7-10K wishlists any game needs to rise above the massive saturation of Steam. Of course the sky's the limit and we really hope to smash this minimum, but for now every wishlist counts so thank you if you have already wishlisted and encouraged others to do so.We are so excited to announce the results of our EmberxAVCon Fan Art competition. First prize was this amazing clay polymer sculpture by Shane Bevin:Everyone who saw it loved this entry so much - from the medium to the sense of action and gore that is just so Ember, it was a standout.Second prize went to Skye, who went to the effort of painting an Ember triptych in oils:We loved the effort and time put into this one to work with the media. There were so many other great entries, so Dishonourable mentions go to Mechanised Convulsions for a rad music track, old mate Townsey for End of Emgame, Miss Cherrybomb (with not just one, but two and three entries), and one of our all time favourites Cheetoh. Thanks to everyone for their entries: we loved the creativity and energy and are so grateful for everyone's input. We'll be posting all these to our socials and as you might know, we love including them in the game as well. Long live fan art! Finally, we are so excited to be featured in the ANZ Indie Showcase and Indiefest, starting on the 5th of September! Check us out along with 47 other amazing games from Australia and New Zealand. We had been hoping to get our Demo (full beta build) out on Steam by the end of October, but sadly realised that just wasn't achievable (indie lyfe, yo). So we are currently planning to try and define a new demo release date, and we think that will be in early 2026, so stay tuned! At the moment we are drivin...Read full article on Community Announcements (badplanstudios)Community & EventsOfficial

While we are promoting the competition during the event, you don't have to be attending AVCon to enter, but you do need to be over 18. X Major PrizesFirst Prize: People's Choice$250 cash (transferred by EFT/PayPal), because Cash is King! This People's Choice prize will be given to the piece of art that achieves the most traction on the Steam Competition page and across other socials. To be in the running for this you need to share and promote your entry across as many social channels as you can (and tag us, of course, for extra reach).Second Prize: Jury SelectionA $250 Coles Myer voucher. Tag it with #BossConcept, and make it conceptual rather than polished. Use arrows, callouts and labels to suggest how parts might be detailed or how they might contribute to gameplay. Take inspiration form the Fetid Larvae Wet Nurse in the game or form @eyerophant's enemy concept:The prize for Design a Boss is an opportunity to spend 1-2 hours with the Bad Plan dev team ideating and working up your concept for consideration for inclusion into the game. If your ideas are used, you will be given a credit in the game.
