About this game
To the now sleeping self...welcome back.
I don't think you'll have a choice anymore. Each time it's gotten progressively harder to just wake up and the dream house has only grown more vivid and real. Perhaps there's a reason? Maybe it's finally time. The doors...they need to be opened, so that you may close them for good.
I leave myself and the dealings of this nightmare to you.

In this first-person psychological horror game, you find yourself trapped in a nightmare filled with strange sights and oppressive monsters. The only way to escape is to go through each door and face the visions on the other side. But what happens after that is up to you. In What Hides in Dreams, death leaves scars. Being captured by a monster leaves a permanent stain on your psyche that affects the game's story. But the monsters can also perish by your hand, which yields its own consequences.

Explore the nightmare, uncovering the history and personality of the protagonist. Who are they? How do they handle these dark visions? Do they fight back or run and hide? Shape their character according to your actions. But whatever you do, stay alert. You will not always have the chance to fight back when a monster appears, and each one has its own unique method of hunting you down. Use your wits to survive, or suffer the consequences of a shattered mind.
Randomized item placement and monster appearances ensure no two players will have the exact same experience. Solve puzzles with varying solutions. Explore with the timely aid of a flashlight, or slowly navigate an unforgiving darkness. Remain alert everywhere you go, because you'll never know when something might strike.

Hello again! The monsters of What Hides in Dreams have received much needed improvements! When alerted, they now focus on the area in which the alert occurred. They've also received general improvements to their pathfinding ability, and have now been instructed to put a little more respect towards players actively hiding from them (however, this is not to say they will never check hiding places...)The full list of changes are as follows:Monster patrolling and pathfinding improvements.Improved the effectiveness of hiding places.Tutorial - Visual fixes for paintings/photosTutorial - Can now turn off TV.Old House - Monitor in basement can now only be interacted with once.Old House - Fixed issue where, after reloading your game while in the final hallway, the monster would respawn despite the level already being complete.Office - Added story note.Office - Removed interactable locker doors on floor 2 near entrance to Processing Area due to monster's curious obsession with them.Office - Fixed bug where escape outcome could occasionally not be registered.Office - Floor 1 video now affected by dialogue volume settings.Museum - Added hiding places.Museum - Fixed issue with player being able to evade monster when running down the escape hall without first solving the final fuse box puzzle.Museum - Fixed issue of hanging statue room's lights being off when reloading save game after unlocking the room.Museum - Fixed issue of thought comments still triggering after player recently detected by Eye.Museum - Performance improvements, specifically in the first part of the level.NOTICE: Due to the way the Museum level's performance improvements were achieved, I have required players to start a new save file to avoid issues of being stuck inside the Museum (or the void...). Very sorry about this, but I am confident that this is the last time a new save file will be required. Thank for your understanding. You can verify that the demo has been updated by looking for text on the main menu ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Prof_Smash)Patch NotesOfficial

Hey there! After a long wait, a new game mechanic has been introduced. And just in time for the holiday week too. It's a Christmas miracle!Cockroaches will now appear in levels, indicating the presence of nearby items. Use them to locate keys, weapons, and other useful items as you descend further into the nightmare.NOTICE: this new feature requires current players to start a new save file due to incompatibilities with this new gameplay element and older save data. Thank you for your understanding. In addition, starting a new game now shows a "game information" screen which gives helpful info on how to approach the world of What Hides in Dreams. These certainly weren't the only changes, though they are the highlights. Additional changes are as follows:Added subtitles to monster dialogue that plays in "cutscene" environments.Updated visuals in gamma correction menu.Fixed bug where the first version of the level selection theme would play in situations where it's supposed to play the standard version.Fixed bug where thought comments would still trigger even when monster is active and nearby.Old House - Fixed bug where reloading game mid-level would remove a security bar piece from your inventory after using a key.Old House - Fixed bug where, after player takes hit from monster, the chase theme of the Wife monster would not play when the Wife enters chase state.Old House - Additional decorations added to level.Old House - Possible fix for crying sound effect coming from fridge being present even after Old House level is completed.Office - Fixed interactable drawers clipping into chairs by removing interaction.Office - Game now saves after picking up Employee Keycard.Museum - Minor modifications to horror event involving NPC character attacked by monster.Museum - Removed Eye Detector which was previously blocking a fuse item in the history section. You can verify that the demo has been updated by looking for text on the main menu that shows "vD_1.0.2", located in the bottom...Read full article on Community Announcements (Prof_Smash)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Patch 1.0.1 Now Live!
Hey there, dreamers!First patch for the What Hides in Dreams Demo has just gone live! The main purpose of this patch is to reduce the game's overall difficulty by better informing the player of how monsters work and where certain key items can be found. Particular attention has been given to the Old House and Museum levels, with new hints dropped to the player that will hopefully better explain a monster's mechanics while also injecting some new tension into the levels.Past these additions, I have also changed the following:Player can now sprint from a crouch state, and vice versa.General volume increase on player footstep SFX.Attempted a fix to address an issue raised where the game would not capture the mouse on startup. I cannot promise this will completely fix the problem but it will hopefully at least be an improvement. Can now exit the main menu from the B button on controllers.Fixed heartbeat sounds playing after a level has cleared.Old House - the Wife monster's speed has been reduced.Museum - Increased draw distance on various items/areas to reduce unsightly pop-in, particularly on low graphics settings.Museum - Removed keycard control blocking player from Fuse Box in lower offices.Museum - Lower offices Fuse Box now also kills main lobby lights.Museum - Acquiring the first Fuse now also kills several lights in the Ballerina room.Museum - Fixed bug where reloading a save file after picking up the first fuse would result in certain lights being on/off incorrectly.Museum - Fixed bug where player would be surrounded by darkness when reloading save game from certain parts of optional rooms in Ballerina area.Office - Fixed monster "stuttering" when near player. You can verify that the demo has been updated by looking for text on the main menu that shows "vD_1.0.1", located in the bottom left corner of the screen. There will be more updates to come which will address additional issues found in the 1.0 version of the demo.
