About this game

Story・Intro

Once upon a time, the world was saved by the Brigandine.

This arcane armor, forged by the great sorcerer Lunadea, brought an end to the ambitions of the Abyssloa Empire.

200 years have since passed, and the continent’s current greatest superpower, the Kingdom of Solginat, has grown into a disquieting presence. In response, the rulers of various nations, spearheaded by the queen of Mysteine—a realm that carries on Lunadea’s will—gather together to issue a formal denunciation…

Letter from the Producer Part 17-20

"Letter from the Producer #17: Rallying (Part 3) & How it Started (Part 15)Hello there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss.Today I'd like to continue talking about the Rally mechanic I touched on in previous letters. When a leader unit and a monster unit group up, this is called Rallying, and it allows the leader unit to gain the Rally Trait of the chosen monster. This time, I'd like to talk about the trait of a particular monster, the Ash Wolf.As a Wolf-type monster, the Ash Wolf is agile and excels at direct attacks. When a leader uses Rally on an Ash Wolf, they will gain the ""Continued Movement"" trait. With this trait, a unit can use any remaining movement points to move again after using a skill, such as an attack. As you can see in this video (at around 00:15), one of the most obvious uses for this trait is attacking, then immediately retreating to a safe position.I've talked about enough unrelated stuff the last couple days, so let's get back to ""Brigandine Abyss: How it Started"".After having a number of meetings with Adglobe Inc. regarding the development of Brigandine Abyss, they mentioned that Makoto Yamamoto (the director of the Sengoku Basara games) was going to be the lead director of the project.I ended up meeting Mr. Yamamoto for the first time in an online meeting, and I remember being very nervous ahead of it.I mean, this is the man responsible for famous games like the Sengoku Basara series! What if I said something weird and made him uncomfortable? Would I be able to clearly explain my ideas for Brigandine? You might not believe it, but I'm actually pretty timid. But he turned out to be really friendly, and I relaxed as soon as I started talking with him.Mr. Yamamoto ended up being a tremendous help all throughout the development of the game, but I'll save those stories for another time.I'm participating in Bitsummit in Kyoto today as well. Tomorrow's stage event starts at 10:40 (JST).Despite being timid, I tend to get carried away wh...

Letter from the Producer Part 13-16

"Letter from the Producer #13: Garnet & How it Started (Part 13)Hello there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss. This time, I'll be writing about another main character in the game, Garnet. She's the protagonist of Scarlet Will's story mode.Garnet leads a heroic band of mercenaries, the Scarlet Will, and, together with her friends, faces off against the Novus Imperium.Garnet is a young woman who shoulders the responsibility of leading her father's mercenary band in his stead. She is brave, earnest, and cares deeply for her friends. On the official website and such she is introduced as being ""A very serious character!"" or something, but that's not all there is to her!Throughout the game there are scenes where we see her bravery, her gentleness, and even a more vulnerable side of her that's rather endearing. She's a great girl, the kind of character you just want to cheer on. Play the game and you'll see. Now, let's continue from where we left off with ""Brigandine Abyss: How it Started"".Last time I was talking about my search for a developer that could help us make Brigandine.I met with a number of developers personally and had online meetings with others. With some of these developers, I was familiar with their names and track records but had never had a chance to meet with them before. So, one of the positive experiences from this project was that it gave me the opportunity to make contacts at many of these companies.Still, I was having trouble settling on a developer, and that's when someone introduced me to Adglobe Inc.Thanks to this introduction, Adglobe Inc. ended up handling the development of the game, and I got a chance to meet some great creators as they helped us work on Brigandine Abyss.(To be continued in the next letter.)""Letter from the Producer #14: Saya & How it Started (Part 14)Hello there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss. This time, I'll be writing about another main character in the game, Saya. She's the protagonist ...

Letter from the Producer Part 9-12

Letter from the Producer #9: Changing Elements with Equipment and How it Started (Part 9)Hello there, I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss.I forgot to say one thing about elements in my previous letter. Certain weapons and armor can bestow elements on the wearer. Equip such an item on a non-elemental unit to make it elemental. Or how about giving your favorite character an advantage in the next battle so that they survive? This kind of strategizing is one of the joys of simulation games, I think. Now, let's continue from where we left off with "The Start of Brigandine Abyss."Saito had a reason for wanting to handle the development of a new Brigandine game. As he's mentioned in numerous interviews, he had left Happinet once and then rejoined the company. During his first stint, he was a part of the development team and worked on Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia. That’s why he wished so badly to participate in the new Brigandine project. To actualize that wish, he labored in secret and leapt at the chance to take charge. Although he's done all kinds of game-related work for other companies in his career, there have only been a few instances of such extensive secret labors.Check out the next letter for more.Letter from the Producer #10: Elevation & How it Started (Part 10)Hello there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss. The battlefields in Brigandine Abyss have an elevation system. This elevation system will have various gameplay effects, such as Ground units like humans being unable to reach higher areas, while winged Flying units remain unaffected by elevation differences.Part of the strategy when a battle starts will be identifying areas with jumps in elevation and searching for advantageous spots to make use of.Now, let's continue from where we left off with "Brigandine Abyss: How it Started".Based on my past experiences, I was very eager to get involved with a new Brigandine project, but I was stuck in the promotion department. When the ...

Letter from the Producer Part 5-8

"Letter from the Producer #5: Mission Mode and How it Started (Part 5)Hello there, I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss.Today I'd like to say a bit more about Mission Mode. In this mode, you choose one of 24 nations and try to complete its objectives. You might be thinking, ""Hmm, each nation has different objectives, so does that mean total playtime varies too?"" Yes, absolutely. Some can be cleared in a flash, others may take a lot longer, and I hope you pick a nation that suits your playstyle. Now, let's continue from where we left off with ""The Start of Brigandine Abyss.""Saito bought loads of interesting simulation games, played them, and then researched everything he could. Sales numbers for all kinds of Brigandine-like games, the state of game consoles, everything. To start a game project, you need to do market research and prepare materials like verification reports, in addition to your game idea itself. He finished the proposal, but the next question was: How to pitch it to his boss? As written in a previous letter, Saito was part of the promotion team at the time, not the development team. He was in no position to propose anything. Hmm, what to do...Check out the next letter for more.""Letter from the Producer #6: Characters and How it Started (Part 6)Hello there, I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss.I've mentioned the six stories available in Story Mode, the game's main mode, and the cast of each story is basically unique, aside from the Abyssloa characters. The characters develop in their own ways as the drama unfolds. Event battles also differ in each story, so I hope you play through all of them. There's a page on this website that introduces the characters, but I'd like to share my own impressions too, through these letters. Now, let's continue from where we left off with ""The Start of Brigandine Abyss.""Saito had created a Brigandine proposal (mainly an analysis of previous games) and research materials, but didn't know how ...
