🎉Boxel 3D Anniversary and 3k Members Celebration Level Jam🎂A message from our Discord Server:Starting NOW a celebratory level jam is live! This is to commemorate both the discord server hitting 3,000 members (hopefully for good), and the 5th birthday of Boxel 3D!Levels are expected to have lengths that range from short to medium-long and have low-medium difficulty. Those levels will be played and judged by four @Event Organizer and scored based on the following criteria:Maximum 10 points for gameplayMaximum 5 points for the theme and how well it connects to the theme of the level jamMaximum 5 points for decoration/qualityMaximum 3 points for having a cake somewhere (high quality, creatively hidden for 3, one of them for 2, and it exists for 1, no cake is 0)Maximum 2 points for a Tiny Tycoon reference (to commemorate the birthday of the game you all chose to ignore) (points based on quality and creativity of reference)For a total of 25 points per judge and a max score of 100 points! This winner will receive the @Event Winner role, a month of Discord Nitro, and their placed level in-game (includes the @Level Creator role)! The submission window will close Thursday, July 31, 2025 3:00 PM.There is a maximum of two level submissions a person.Submissions are to be made in #boxel-birthday-event.Good luck! Also have fun.Or else...

    Free To Play

Boxel 3D is now free-to-play on Steam!I want to thank everyone for supporting me both financially and socially by helping others create amazing content on Steam and in the Discord server. My goal for launching on Steam was to help fund the cost of developing my games on Steam. We accomplished this goal by earning back the money needed to purchase a developer license/assets with earnings to spare ($315).I look forward to playing all your levels for the years to come and hope you enjoy playing my game.

    What is Input Buffer?

Input buffer has been added to Boxel 3D (version 2.3.7), but what is it? Input buffer is simply a sequence of buttons a user can press before an action is performed. Problem #1: A player presses the “jump” button right before landing, and nothing happens. If the player was attempting to jump over a dangerous spike, they would need to press the jump button again. Solution #1: Register the “jump” event right before the player lands, and jump immediately when the player touches the ground. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45411863/e90b5ba7a37b03860a4c6f6d0a8fc3c0699b92ad.png You might think that humans are super fast at reacting to danger, but it turns out that the average human reaction time is about 250 milliseconds. To put this into perspective, the average monitor refresh rate is 60hz (or about 16 milliseconds per frame). Mathematically speaking, your eyes will see about 15 frames of gameplay before you even think about reacting to anything (that’s a long time). Our brain compensates for this “delayed reaction” by observing patterns, and reacting to them in a precise, rhythmic sequence. These patterns are created by remember when actions occur, then executing these actions at a predictable time. If you have ever played an instrument, then you have used a form of “input buffer” to reproduce a song. Problem #2: The player presses the jump button way too early, and accidentally jumps when they did not mean to. Solution #2: Limit your buffer time. Lets say you accidentally pressed the jump button while you were falling, but you change your mind. With unlimited input buffer, you would have no other choice but to jump again (even if you were falling for 10 seconds). To solve this, we limit our buffer time to a few milliseconds. If the average human reaction time is 250 milliseconds, then we should definitely not exceed this timeframe. Personally, I think 50 milliseconds is more than enough for most players. Finding the right amount of input buffer can take time to develop, but it can ...
