Experience the tension of the Cold War era through strategic decisions that impact the game world in this addictive yet chill simulation and strategy title from Maestro Cinetik.

About this game

Maestro’s Cold War 2 is a replayable grand-strategy sandbox about the world’s tensest standoff of the Cold War.

Play as the USA or the USSR, manage Prestige, Budget, and National Policies, and bend history through policies, proxies, diplomacy, and brinkmanship.

Easy to pick-up but hard and deep enough to offer a challenge, this is the kind of game you will keep coming back to.

How Does the Game Work?

The objective is simple: earn more prestige points than your opponent.

You gain prestige by improving diplomatic relations and signing treaties with countries across the globe. At the same time, your opponent will work relentlessly to undermine the nations in your bloc and shift the balance of power in their favor.

Beyond diplomacy, you must also manage your nation’s internal policies and carefully plan how to exploit the geopolitical landscape to weaken your rival over time.

Are you ready to lead your ideology to global dominance—or will history repeat itself?

If you're familiar with my work, you know I focus on crafting games you can enjoy in a single evening, yet with enough depth to offer endless replayability.

I’m confident the game's simple mechanics paired with historical events that force you to make impactful choices, will provide over 100 hours of entertainment.

Now:

Have fun! (this is an order, not a wish!)                                                                                                                       -Maestro Cinetik

Is this game for you?

  • You are looking for a deep simulation of the Soviet Politburo: Probably not. This game focuses on Cold War geostrategy rather than the internal politics of a single country. If domestic politics and government management are what you enjoy most, there are better games for that.

  • You love planning military campaigns: Probably not. Military intervention is rarely the objective. If you find yourself putting boots on the ground, something has probably gone wrong.

  • You don't enjoy reading: Probably not. The game expects you to read tooltips, event reports, and occasionally the in-game wiki. Much of its strategic depth comes from understanding the information the game provides.

  • You enjoy making long-term plans: Then this game is probably for you. Success often depends on thinking years ahead rather than reacting to next month's events.

  • You enjoy indirect strategies: Then this game is probably for you. The best move is not always the most obvious one, and achieving your goals often requires patience, subtlety, and careful planning.

  • You enjoy adapting to uncertainty: Then this game is probably for you. There is rarely a perfect solution, and strategies must evolve as the geopolitical situation changes. (If 90% of your actions are economic aid because every other option feels too risky, you're probably missing a large part of what the game has to offer.)

Full Release Is Here! - The Road We’ve Travelled

When I look back at the ground covered since the Early Access, I realize that, step by step, we have come a long long way. Additions to the game since the Early AccessGeostrategic advantagesA national policies systemA regional intelligence systemMore actionsMore technologiesLiving World game modeAn editorMultiplayerDLCs extending the timespan from 1945 to 2001DLC to play as France or ChinaGeostrategic Advantages:When you don't know where to start, have a look at these. You can think of them as secondary quests that unlock strong bonuses or one-time effects. Seasoned players like to use them as opening moves and combine them with their long-term strategies.National Policies System:This system really enables you to choose your own path. There is no combination of policies that will work all the time in every environment: you will truly have to be the great helmsman of your nation. And yes, with this system, it is now possible to save the USSR or make communism work.I know that players tend to settle on the combination of policies that has worked for them, but there are truly different paths that can work, so I encourage you to experiment outside your comfort zone. The Regional Intelligence System:It enables the player to gain bonuses by focusing on a particular type of intelligence operation. The chosen focus unlocks bonuses and special actions. This comes at a cost, but when used well, it will help keep the game's momentum in your favor.More Actions:I know some new players tend to focus on economic aid and military aid because they seem like the safe strategy. And at low difficulty levels, this may work.Don't play like that: you will get bored, and you will miss out on all the evil-genius combinations of actions that can make your prestige point count explode. In this game, to earn points in the long run, you will often have to lose some in the short term: think of it as an investment. You now have many actions that allow you to do so, especially those provided by the Reg...

    August content update

Hello! In the August update you will find:More multiplayer scenariosIntelligence projectsSlepper agents nerfed some editor fixesMore multiplayer scenariosShort scenarios are probably more suited for reasonably timed multiplayer games; but many of you requested longer experiences. So I included larger scenarios like the great campaign, or the 1980-1989 second Cold war scenario. If you own Pax Americana, you will also notice that you have access to the multiplayer scenario "millenium" (1980-2001).Intelligence projectsThey are available either at game start in your R&D screen, or during the game by event. US projects:Venona Project: This counterintelligence program aims to decipher messages transmitted by the Soviet Union's intelligence agencies. Once this project is completed, all Soviet illegals in North and Central America lose 5 levels, and the US player will be able to see the countries where Soviet sleeper agents have been activated (but not those that are still dormant).Gold and SilverDigging a secret tunnel should enable the tapping of Soviet Army headquarters landline communications in Germany and Vienna, revealing their intentions and order of battle. Completing this project sets the regional intelligence focus in Eastern Europe to "Military Intelligence", with its cooldown reduced to zero, and grants the USA a +50 bonus when calculating the Soviet power ratio in Europe for 60 turns.Operation Chaos: (gained during the game)The project chaos soon grew to insane proportions, developing its own network of informants for the purposes of infiltrating various foreign anti-war groups, and extending its investigations to foreign groups. The conclusion of such a large deployement of means is that overall, there is no evidence of any contact between the most prominent peace movement leaders and foreign embassies in the U.S. or abroad... Anyway, these 7200 files on American citizens, and the 300 000 civilians and 1000 organizations indexed by computer gave us a deep uners...

    New Actions Gameplay Update

Hello, here is a long awaited and requested update: the one bringing more actions to the game! In this update:Regional Intelligence Bureaus: Focuses ReworkedNew actionsEditor fixesRegional Intelligence Bureaus: Focuses ReworkedThe cooldown before the bonuses of a new Regional Intelligence Bureau focus apply is now 3 turns instead of 12 turns. You will still need to plan ahead and know what you will be doing in a few turns, but it is now less punitive than the old 12 turns paying the upkeep without getting the effects.4 focuses now unlock special actions:-The political influence focus unlocks Smear Campaigns-The Special Operations focus unlocks Guerilla training (testers loved that one)-The COIN focus unlocks Search and Destroy-The Military focus unlocks Major OffensiveNew actionsIllegals: This one is for the Soviet player only. These sleeper agents can remain dormant for years before being activated. Each year they remain underground increases their level by 1.After one year, the Soviet player may activate them. Once activated, they provide a bonus to subversion actions equal to their level. Yes, this means an agent left dormant for 20 years will grant a +20 bonus to subversion actions. Once activated, illegals will lose 1 level every turn. However, if your opponent has the Counter-Intelligence focus, illegals will usually lose 5 levels instead of 1.Call to the Coalition:An action the testers found very useful. It is available in countries at war where you have boots on the ground. You will call on your allies for assistance, and countries with which you have a defense agreement may send troops to assist you in this country.Beware: if your alliance is small or its member countries have few troops, it is possible that no one will answer your call. If this happens, you will lose 100 prestige. And now the 4 actions related to the regional Intelligence focuses.(remember that the cooldown must be at 0 to use these actions)Smear Campaign:Rumors, blackmail, disinformation, da...

The Editor leaves the Beta testing phase and is officially operational

The title says it all. You can now easily create great mods or event packs, share them, and upload your friends' creations directly from the game. (in todays update, you will find technologies and cutom country variables)I will keep adding features to the editor as long as enough players request them.I also added a new game option that prevents organizing mass protests from backfiring in democracies. Now, according to the player poll (https://strawpoll.com/eNg6vNeB3gA/results), I will start working on new actions to add to the game.Have fun!Maestro Cinetik

    Workshop & multiplayer update

Here are some cool stuff added since the last Steam News:-->You can now create events packs mods -->You can download easily and directly content from the workshop right into the game´s right folder -->More longer multiplayer scenarios have been added. -->The editor bugs you reported have been fixedWhat are the events packs? They are packs of events you create with the editor.Contrary to the modded scenarios, they will load with any scenario you play, provided you selected them. You can pill up as many events packs as you want. Quick save and loading times:You may feel that that saving and loading takes more time.It is because the editor added many more data to save.I can't find where to download the workshop creationsIf so: create a mod , then from the scenario list, a "mods button" should now be available. From there you will be able to download the workshop directly and simply. What is the future of JSON modding?I kept that possibility, but obviously, the editor is much more practical.the files generated by the editor are still moddable as json, if that's your thing.
