Added immersive VFX to various sections of the map. Attempted to add DualShock support (unable to test locally without a controller, so player feedback is welcome). Added more Easter eggs. Implemented various environmental and visual improvements. Performance & Optimization Heavily optimized LODs. Removed 229 RectLights and replaced them with an ambient cube map to light Monolith. Substituted the Glass level material to improve GPU performance. Changed the ocean floor to optimize VRAM usage. Optimized Draw and Cull distances. Optimized max texture renders. Optimized shader complexity. Disabled World Partition. Bug Fixes Fixed an issue where the player could spawn through the floor. Fixed an issue where holding R to reset disabled the ability to pick up hats. Audio Added seven music zones as well as audio triggers for starting and beating the game. Removed all AI-generated music assets. Sorry about that. Developer Reminder: Gravity is strictly enforced for all players. 1.1 - THE MOLT UPDATE
1.1 - THE MOLT UPDATE This update introduces the "Molt Machine", a mysterious vending machine on the beach that allows players to cash in Crab Coins for awesome new skins. Now all that falling you've been doing might actually pay off. Crustacean currency is scattered across the map, and can be used to molt into a brand-new look. With over 30 skins to unlock, there are plenty of reasons to pick your shell up and try again. Patch Notes: Added 30+ unlockable skins Introduced Molt Machine and Crab Coins Inventory now closes when hitting the Escape key Minor mesh update at Red Pyramid Updated Main Menu scene Small performance and optimization updates This is purely an in-game currency - There are no microtransactions; that would be absurd. I'm an indie dev who already got your support when you bought the game. I don't want to come after your wallet too. Even crabs are not that greedy. If you find a cool skin, make sure to brag about it online (and tag us), or join the discord and let me know! Scuttle Up is OUT NOW!
Thank you to everyone that has wishlisted, playtested, and supported this crab game along the way. I wanted to give the community some notes about SU and its development up to this point: SU took a year to make, and was made while working an unrelated full-time job Solo developer 0 years of experience when started $0 development budget, completely self funded $0 marketing budget, completely self promoted Ended roughly -$500 to budget So if we hit any walls during development, please keep in mind that I am not a A, AA, or AAA studio and things will take time/effort. Patience is appreciated! Here are some known development objectives that are on the roadmap for 1.1: Shadows on medium settings in certain areas are flashy Input binding is being worked on UE5 does not natively support Playstation controllers, so some inputs may not work (try Steam mapping) There are a ton of easter eggs in Scuttle Up to find. When you do, share them with the community! Also, at the time of this post my best run is 19:26. Think you can beat that? Make sure to join the Discord! You can share clips of your playthroughs and your best screenshots! Testing Ends March 11th!
During testing, we uncovered a few crucial game breaking bugs that were hot-fixed same day. A few quality-of-life notes were added to the roadmap as well. As far as feedback goes, there was an overwhelming amount of positive comments on the games look, feel, and environment. As expected, others felt as if the game was too hard (as is the nature of foddians.) Here are some of the updates from testing: Laser materials were not loading in the Green and Red Pyramid (Fixed) The rings around Mushroom Forest were displacing themselves randomly (Fixed) Players kept tab locking themselves into the inventory screen (Fixed) Night time was shortened even further as some areas are notably more difficult during (Fixed) Players were getting stuck at Gold due to lack of design cues (Fixed) Here are some of known issues gathered from testing which will be corrected in future updates: Controller sensitivity Some bindings do not work on Playstation controllers due to Unreal's lack of native support Shadows on medium settings in Pipes (still investigating this bug) Please keep in mind that some features will take time. Scuttle Up is the passion project of a one person team, who started with zero experience, and has a budget of $0. When it comes to features and patches, your patience is greatly appreciated!Read full article on Community Announcements (Clawstorm)
