  Sofia's Dark Fantasies — The Original Version, Free for Everyone

  A Thank You, a Free Game, and the Story Behind It Since Episode 2 launched, the support from this community has been incredible. The reviews, the messages, the people who actually played the game and understood what we were building. Thank you. As a thank you, we are releasing the original pre-launch version of Sofia's Dark Fantasies for free. Three releases in one package: Day 1 through 4 from the original 2023 builds, the Christmas Special "Price of Privilege," and the early version of Episode 2 from late 2024. Around 2,200 images and a handful of animations. This Is Not the Game You Know The story is different. The characters are different. The events go in a completely different direction. Think of it as an alternate chapter in the Sofia universe that never made it to Steam. Here is why it exists and why it never shipped. The original was built with 70% DAZ renders and 30% Blender. At some point during production we looked at what we had and made a decision that changed everything. It was not good enough. So we scrapped the story, scrapped the renders, rebuilt the entire game from scratch in Blender, and started over. What you are playing in Episode 1 and Episode 2 on Steam is the result of that decision. 4K renders. 140 voiced cinematic animations. A female-written story built to go somewhere across 15 episodes. None of that existed in the original version. Why Release It Now Because we have nothing to hide. We are proud of where we started and even more proud of how far we have come. Some of you will prefer the original direction. That is fine. But play them side by side and you will see exactly why we made the call we made.   Build 2.02 — Patch Notes

  Bug fixes Fixed a long-standing skip bug we've been fighting for a while — skip would stop working after watching animations and wouldn't recover until reloading from the main menu. Finally tracked it down and squashed it Fixed animation audio being tied to the music volume slider — voiced animations now follow the voice volume slider, so you can mute music without losing animation audio Gameplay improvements Skip now automatically detects scenes you've already completed — if you've played through a scene before, you can skip through it freely on replay. No workarounds needed First-time content is protected — skip only activates on scenes your save has already tracked as complete. We built it this way because with two episodes, 4,000+ images, and 500+ animations, there's a lot of content that's easy to accidentally skip past. We'd rather you see it all at least once Skip is never automatic — it only triggers when you hold Ctrl or press the skip button. If you're replaying a scene and want to experience it again in full, just play normally. Nothing gets skipped unless you tell it to A quick thank you These fixes came directly from players who took the time to report issues — in reviews, in discussions, and through our feedback form.   An Honest Note After Shipping EP2 (And a Quick Ask)

  Episode 2 is live. We originally projected 1,600 images and 100 animations. We shipped 2,100+ images and 321 animations — including 100 voiced scenes. We even went back and added 40 voiced animations to EP1. All free. We're proud of what we've built. But today, we need to have an honest talk about reviews. What We're Dealing With Some of the negative feedback early on was completely valid — EP1 was shorter than it should have been. We heard you, and EP2 was built specifically around your feedback. It's longer, has more content and it feels more natural. But many of the "too short" reviews came from players who might not know that Steam does not allow Early Access for NSFW games. We couldn't release the game with a beta tag to show it was just the beginning. So we made a promise on day one: EP2, EP3, and four short stories would all be released as free updates. That promise has always been on our store page, in the game itself, and in every update we posted. We just delivered the first massive piece of it. We know we aren't perfect. But we're working to add things that rarely exist in this genre — voiced animations, hand-crafted choice cards, a bespoke UI built from scratch, and support for 14 languages. We thrive on constructive feedback. If a scene didn't land for you, tell us why and we'll do better. In addition, please try to explain in a few more words what you didn't like or what didn't fit. Your honest review can be a great idea or thought. "Nope" "crap" "Mmm I don't know" "Boring. Refund" "it's a joke for tht much money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" We've also seen claims that we delete negative reviews. Let us be clear: developers cannot delete reviews on Steam. Only Valve can. We never have and we never will. The Ask Right now, we have over 10,000 players but fewer than 170 reviews. Most of the people who've actually played through the game haven't shared their experience yet.
