Explore Despondent and step into Sedgewick’s desperate struggle for survival. Navigate his haunted journey, battling sickness and uncovering dark secrets in this gripping first-person horror experience.

About this game

In a world where the supernatural and paranormal are known to exist, they are administered by the Department of Supernatural Intelligence, a body of government put in place to protect the balance. After the D.S.I. pulls resources out of solving a mass disappearance, you as Sedgewick must go it alone and seek the truth about the goings-on inside ground zero.

HARGRAVE

Once a beautiful and docile place, has turned into a hellish prison for those who disappeared. Make your way through various locales inside Hargrave, from a derelict farmstead to a god-forsaken factory, do whatever it takes to find answers for all those missing people. Will you clasp on to enough hope to escape? Or stay forever ensnared inside Hargrave's rotten mouth...

THE WREAKS

Sedgewick contracts a deadly sickness in which you must manage with medication throughout the journey. If left too long without temporary treatment, symptoms will begin to slow you down and make it difficult to outrun or fight those who want you dead. Symptoms will worsen while progressing, making it more and more difficult to stay alive without medication. Do what you can to stay off the sickness during your fight through Hargrave.

RUN OR FIGHT

Sedgewick is an agent of the D.S.I. and has both knowledge and training on how to deal with the supernatural and paranormal accordingly. Use a selection of weapons to defend yourself against the horrors that lurk within. However some enemies you face will be invulnerable to your arsenal, in times like this it is in your best interest to run like hell.

THE SUPERNATURAL & PARANORMAL

There is an abundance of creatures roaming the darkness. From different types of spirits to sea dwelling cryptids, keep track of them in Sed's compendium, which will update with every new creature you lay eyes on, after all... it is important to know which ones will tear you limb from limb without a moments thought. But be ready to lay witness to heinous life-forms nobody has ever seen, in places so truly void of hope... you will forever be Despondent.

OLD-SCHOOL GRAPHICS

Despondent is heavily inspired by games from the late 2000's/early 2010's. It mixes detailed environments and characters with 2D sprites that are implemented as foliage, draw clutter, food etc. It is also paired with some retro post-processing like heavy film grain, bright colours and an overly sharp image. These elements all lovingly come together to create a nostalgic aesthetic that will bring you right back to the good ol' days!

    Patch 1.2 announcement and details

Hey SkatersAnother patch is incomin' quick, should be next week sometime! I'll list below what you can expect and then again list what was patched in the official patch notes when it releases.---Additions---Functional MirrorsThis may seem weird to add now, but it is always something I wanted in the game and it always bugged me how you could not see your reflection, so functional mirrors will be added for not much reason except just coz!Added ItemsAdditional Items will be added in some of the chapters, some were missing from the final build and some others I plan to add to address game play balancing, I won't say what will be added where, so you will have to discover them yourself!---Fixes (Major Bugs)--- Sticky Geometry- I will try my best to address sticky geo, especially in chapter 2, hopefully there will be a big difference. I am sorry if there is still a little bit of stickiness present when traversing over certain meshes, this issue is tricky and harder than it seems as it has to do with the Sed's collider and his step offset, changing it too much can effect how the player interacts with the environment.---Fixes (Minor Glitches)----Collision on cave wall near collapsed bridge in chapter 2.-Volume levels on the intro cutscene so you can better hear Sedgewick's voice.-Missing graffiti on the walls in chapter 5.-Visual glitch in the bog in chapter 3.-Player dying if they go over the edge just before the window jump cutscene in chapter 3.Until next time, Later Skaters!

    Version 1.1 patch notes

Hey Skaters!Version 1.1 has been released, with it are the patch notes listed below. There are some bugs that I need a little more time to fix as they turned out to be a more complicated then I first thought, they will be addressed in subsequent versions.Despondent Version 1.1Added in 3 more save points to chapter 3, one at the top of the radio tower, one close to the Pale Lady encounter & another on the beach.Implemented objective text that will give the player a better idea on what to do.Fixed a bug that would cause players to spawn outside of the map when loading a checkpoint.Fixed a bug where the glass shard in Sed's hand was not properly aligned with the cut.Fixed a bug where the flare sprites are visible through the wall at the end of chapter 6.Fixed a bug where the player would automatically have the flashlight equip in the prologue.Fixed the freezer door not animating properly in chapter 5.Fixed a mistake in where the pale lady was not glowing in chapter 6.Fixed an issue that would prevent the achievement for finishing the game from popping.Fixed a mistake in where parts of the credits text would run off of the screen.Fixed an issue that would cause starting items to duplicate.Fixed collision in the swamp area of chapter 3.Fixed collision on the graveyard office in chapter 3.Thank you to everyone who has played the game and reported bugs so far, I will continue to work on the outstanding issues and any others that arise, I'll see you guys in Hargrave!Later Skaters!

    Patch 1.1 announcement and details

Hey SkatersThank you for all your support so far, seeing everybody play and hearing feedback about Despondent has been awesome!I have compiled a list of bugs and additions I want to address in the first patch coming sometime next week, just to give you guys an idea of what to expect.---Additions---Save pointsI have been getting a lot of feedback about the difficulty of the game and the lack of save points in the longer chapters. While the game was made hard by design, it was never meant to make players have to replay it over and over again to progress. That is why I have decided to implement 2 other save points in chapter 3 and another 1 in chapter 5. Where they will be I am not sure of right now, but I can promise there will be one after the radio tower in chapter 3! I will have all the locations listed in the patch notes when it is released. Objective clarityI have also received reports of players struggling with where to go and what to do, the objectives are vague and not telling of which direction the player should take to progress. I was trying to walk a fine line in not creating a 'yellow paint game' but in doing this, I had not made it clear enough. That is why I have decided to create objectives that will give you a better idea on what you should be looking for to steadily progress through the game, instead of wandering because I know how frustrating that can be! I will still try to restrain myself from making it too obvious, as I want to stay true to the type of game I wanted to make.---Fixes (Major Bugs)--- Equipment duplication- When the player loads a game or transitions between levels, the inventory component can sometimes get confused about whether the player has equipment or not, and can at times give duplicates of each starting item. This can be game breaking as there is no drop feature in despondent, the game depends upon having free space in the inventory to pick up key items to progress. This will be rectified in the patch but as of now there does ...

    Despondent is out NOW

It has been a long time coming but Despondent is finally here! This game took alot of blood, sweat and tears to see it through but I would not change the experiences I have had during that time for the world. Despondent is by far not a perfect game, but I have poured heaps of love into it throughout the years and I hope that seeps through to all of you when you play. So enjoy and maybe... just maybe, make it out alive
