Development Patch #4 — Swimming, Water Physics & Traversal
Development Patch #4 — Swimming, Water Physics & TraversalThis development update covers the new swimming and water systems, followed by the latest work on vaulting and falling ledge catches.Swimming SystemA complete swimming system is now being integrated into Hare House:Added surface and underwater swimming.Added slow, normal, and fast swimming speeds.Holding sprint gradually transitions the player from a normal swim into a faster freestyle swim.Added diving and rising transitions.Improved directional movement so the character turns toward the direction they are swimming.Improved transitions when entering and leaving water.Added support for different water depths, from smaller flooded areas to deeper pools.Continued work on keeping the character mesh and collision capsule properly aligned with the water surface.Water Physics and BuoyancyWater now affects more than the player:Physics objects can float using the new buoyancy system.Objects can react differently depending on their weight and buoyancy settings.Ragdolls entering water can sink instead of remaining unnaturally suspended at the surface. The system is being designed for puddles, fountains, pools, flooded rooms, and other bodies of water.Water volumes can be resized and adjusted for different environments.Sound effects, splashes, stamina, and underwater oxygen will be added during later development passes.Expanded Vaulting SystemThe traversal system has been expanded with separate slow, fast, and high-vault behavior.Slow VaultsSlow vaults remain available for controlled movement over smaller obstacles.Separate left- and right-sided animations are supported.Their detection and settings are isolated from the other vault types.Fast VaultsFast vaults use their own detection and tuning. They are intended for approaching smaller obstacles at higher movement speeds.Their settings are separated from slow and high vaults so adjustments no longer interfere with one another.2-Meter High VaultThe high-wall vault has rec...Read full article on Community Announcements (H O D)Patch NotesOfficial
Hare House — Development Patch #3
Hare House — Development Patch #3Inventory, Weapons, Tablet UI & Gameplay SystemsDevelopment on Hare House has continued to move deeper into actual survival-horror gameplay systems. This update has been heavily focused on building the systems the player will constantly interact with: inventory management, weapons, the tablet interface, environmental interaction, and further improvements to existing gameplay mechanics.A lot of this work is still being actively refined, but the foundation for several major systems is now in place.Inventory SystemOne of the largest additions has been the new inventory system. The inventory is built around a grid-based system designed to make item management an important part of survival rather than simply giving the player unlimited storage.Current work includes:A fully functional grid-based inventory foundation.Items can be selected and highlighted within the inventory.Clicking an already selected item again now deselects it.Support for locked and unlocked inventory slots.Inventory capacity is designed to expand as the player progresses and acquires better equipment.Item weight is now being integrated into the inventory interface.Dedicated UI elements have been added for selected items, weight information, item previews and other inventory data.Inventory interaction and UI behaviour are being handled through the game's C++ systems rather than relying heavily on Blueprint logic. The long-term inventory structure allows the player's available storage to increase from the starting inventory toward the complete 42-slot layout, with the player's physical equipment changing alongside that progression.Tablet InterfaceThe inventory is presented through the player's physical tablet device, which is becoming a much larger part of Hare House's interface. The tablet is being developed as an in-world interface rather than a traditional floating game menu.Current tablet work includes:Inventory interface integration.Inventory, Map, Files and Settings t...Read full article on Community Announcements (H O D)Patch NotesOfficial
HARE HOUSE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #2
HARE HOUSE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #2Development continues on the player’s core survival and environmental interaction systems. This update introduces stamina and exhaustion, expands the physics interaction system, and begins turning lockers into fully physical hiding spaces.Everything discussed below remains a work in progress and may be adjusted during testing.STAMINA SYSTEM• Added a complete player stamina system.• Stamina is only consumed after the player enters the actual sprinting gait.• Walking and regular jogging currently do not consume stamina.• Added adjustable maximum stamina and sprint-drain values.• Added an adjustable delay before stamina regeneration begins.• Added adjustable stamina-regeneration speed.• Added a normalized stamina value ranging from 0.0 to 1.0 for the future HUD.• Added an optional on-screen stamina debugging display. The debugging display reports:• Current and maximum stamina.• Remaining stamina percentage.• Whether stamina is full, draining, recovering, delayed, or exhausted.• Whether the sprint input is being held.• The player’s current movement gait.• The active maximum movement speed.• Whether the normal or exhausted movement asset is active.PLAYER EXHAUSTION• The player now enters an exhausted state when stamina reaches zero.• Sprinting is immediately cancelled upon exhaustion.• Jogging and sprinting remain unavailable while exhausted.• The player is forced into the walking gait.• Exhausted movement speed is currently limited to 125 cm/s.• Added an adjustable stamina threshold that must be recovered before normal movement is restored.• Holding the sprint input during recovery will not instantly return the player to maximum speed.• After recovering, the player must progress normally through walking and jogging before sprinting again. An optional exhausted movement data asset can now be assigned to the player. This allows exhaustion to affect acceleration, friction, directional response, and the overall weight of movement.Audio, breathi...Read full article on Community Announcements (H O D)Patch NotesOfficial
Hare House Development Update #1
Hare House Development Update #1Development on Hare House is continuing, and I want to begin sharing regular updates directly through Steam—not only through YouTube, TikTok, and X.This first update covers the foundation currently being built for the player character, interaction systems, animations, objectives, and opening environment. Please remember that everything shown and discussed is still a work in progress and may change during development.Player MovementIntegrated a full-body first-person character system.Improved the transition between walking, jogging, and sprinting. Added gradual acceleration instead of immediately jumping to maximum sprint speed.Added a full-jogging phase before sprinting begins.Added an adjustable delay at full jogging speed before the player enters a sprint.Removed the excessive forward lean from the sprint animation.Improved movement blending to make speed changes feel more natural.Continued improving the custom pivot system used when rapidly changing direction. Stair MovementAdded a new system that automatically detects tagged staircases. The player now slows down while moving on stairs.Walking speed on stairs is currently limited to 100 cm/s. Holding the run button increases stair movement to 200 cm/s.Full sprinting is disabled while the player is on stairs. Added separate, adjustable acceleration and deceleration settings for stair movement.Added detection grace time to prevent the system from switching off between individual steps. Normal movement smoothly returns after leaving a staircase.Created developer debugging tools for checking stair detection and movement speed. Dedicated stair animations and additional foot-placement improvements may be added during a later animation pass. The underlying movement system is now functional. (Will need player Feedback on this)Physics InteractionAdded a physics-based object pickup system inspired by games such as Half-Life and Amnesia.Objects can be marked as interactable using a tag. Added ...Read full article on Community Announcements (H O D)
