New Game Mode: Defend the Castle and more!

Hey everyone! Now is the perfect time to introduce Circle Empires 2 to everyone who normally doesn't play real time strategy games. In Defend the Castle, you’ll need to expand your base while preparing for increasingly powerful waves of enemies. Build up your defenses as mini-bosses and their minions storm the barricades. While there's carnage on the frontline, you have the ability to conquer enemy outposts. This gives you another way to deal with the growing threat where the waves spawn from. We've added the Simplified Control Scheme setting. It was designed based on feedback from players who are new to PC gaming. The army is always selected and can be moved with left click. Numerous other tweaks ensure a smoother onboarding for new players. Quicker economic growthThe price of workers has been dropped to speed up the economy and allow larger armies faster. The impact of harvesting technologies has been reduced so they are not a mandatory part of any long term game plan any more. Level up fasterThe experience requirements of most units have been reduced. This provides a larger bonus whenever you manage to keep your units alive. Drag & drop the unit listGo to Unit editor (green plus sign at top of the screen) > Remove units > and drag and drop them around to reorganize their order.Whether you choose to take on the challenge alone or team up with a friend in co-op, Defend the Castle gives you a new way to experience Circle Empires 2.Thank you all for suggestions and stay tuned for further updates!See you in the circles, Luminous

New Leader Menus & Major Multiplayer Improvements!

Hey everyone,Circle Empires 2 has been getting a little makeover.Over the past few weeks, we've been polishing up the menus, improving the user interface, and tackling some particularly troublesome multiplayer issues. We've also made a few changes to how maps and late-game worlds behave!Every Leader Gets Their Own Menu BackgroundThe menu backgrounds now change depending on which leader you're playing, reflecting the world you're about to enter. Once you've played a game, the menu can also show a foggy version of your last battlefield, giving the whole game a little more of a sense of place. We've also reworked the Unit Editor visuals, adjusted several menu layouts, added more UI sounds, and made a number of smaller improvements throughout the interface.Building buttons are now smaller and arranged more neatly, world edges fade when zooming out, and Escape now works as a proper step-back button in several menus. We've also added screenshake to some explosions, which can be adjustedin the visual settings if you'd rather keep things calm.More Variety on the MapResources can now appear either spread throughout a circle or grouped into clusters. This gives economic layouts a little more variety, so not every circle will present exactly the same resource puzzle. Sometimes everything is conveniently together. Sometimes it really isn't.A Big Multiplayer FixWe've also tackled a particularly nasty multiplayer issue that could cause lag and crashes when a player had more than 1,000 objects in their world. This affected a surprisingly large number of late-game systems, including new circles, level-ups, buildings, spawners, and necromancy. We've also adjusted the physics tick rate in extremely crowded worlds, including multiplayer. As populations get very high, the physical simulation can now run at a lower tick rate while the game and UI retain more of their frame rate. This should make late-game multiplayer feel considerably less sluggish on most systems. And for anyone planning to...

    Happy Birthday, Circle Empires!

Hey everyone,Eight years ago, the very first Circle Empires launched on Steam!Since then, we've expanded the series with new worlds, new leaders, and plenty of wonderfully chaotic battles. Whether you've been with us since day one or you've only recently joined the circles, thank you for being part of the journey. To celebrate the occasion, we've been working on something that should make every battle in Circle Empires 2 feel a little smoother.A Major Performance UpdateOver the past month, we've made a number of improvements under the hood to boost performance, particularly in the moments when the battlefield is at its busiest. If you've ever zoomed out to admire your empire, you should notice a significant difference in frame rates. In our own performance tests, we've measured frame rate improvements ranging from +20 to +100%, depending on the scenario and hardware. Your results will naturally vary depending on your PC, and whether rendering was the main performance bottleneck, but on some systems the improvement should be very noticeable! We've also measured startup times that are roughly 50-60% faster, helping you get into the action that little bit sooner. After this round of performance improvements, we'll now be turning our attention back to the many other topics you've been reporting. We know there are still bug reports, balance discussions, and feature suggestions waiting for their turn, and we're continuing to read all of your feedback as we plan future updates.Thank YouIt's been an incredible eight years for the Circle Empires franchise, and we couldn't have reached this milestone without you. Thank you for your feedback, bug reports, strategy discussions, and for continuing to find new and wonderfully creative ways to conquer the circles. Here's to many more years of circular adventures.Happy Birthday, Circle Empires!

    We’ve Reached 24 Leaders!

Hey everyone,We've made it! When Circle Empires 2 launched, the game featured 12 unique leaders, each with their own units, technologies, and playstyles. Over the past few weeks, we've been revealing 8 brand-new leaders, building on the 4 already added since launch. With today's update, the journey is complete:Circle Empires 2 now features 24 unique leaders, doubling the roster available at launch and offering more ways than ever to conquer the circles.Let's meet them.Liam LaserfangLiam commands the new Laser faction, a force built around precision, clever defenses, and some of the most unique weapons in the game.Laser weapons don't just deal damage. They permanently slice away an enemy's maximum health, making them especially effective against units that rely on healing or regeneration to stay alive.Defending your territory is just as satisfying. Mirror Shields have a chance to reflect incoming attacks back at their source, sending arrows, pikes, and even catapult shots right back where they came from. Liam also begins with access to Mirror Walls and Mirror Gates, making any siege a risky proposition for would-be invaders.Of course, no laser-themed army would be complete without the Laser Cat, whose independently targeted eye lasers continue firing even after the cat itself has fallen. Liam also gains access to the Windmill, which boosts your food economy, and the City Hall, which lowers the cost of recruiting workers. Byron the BurfulIf one dragon isn't enough, Byron has you covered.Byron leads the Dragon Legions, bringing together more dragons than any other leader in the game. Alongside three brand-new dragon species, he can recruit classic dragons, ghost dragons, and even the fearsome Level 4 Dragon, available as a recruit from the get-go!Until those mighty beasts arrive, Byron's armies rely on disciplined legionaries armed with swords and pikes, protected by sturdy tower shields that shrug off most incoming ranged attacks. To help you reach your dragon-filled en...

Magnar the Mammoth and Woody Enter The Circle!

Hey everyone,The march to 24 leaders continues, and this week Magnar the Mammoth and Woody enter the battlefield. Circle Empires 2 launched with 12 unique leaders, and since then we’ve steadily expanded the roster with new arrivals. With Magnar and Woody joining the game, only two leaders now remain to be revealed before the total reaches 24 unique leaders, each bringing their own strengths, weaknesses and strategies into the circles.Magnar the MammothMagnar leads the Animal faction, bringing mammoths, elks and other mounts into battle. His faction introduces the Lance weapon, which deals significantly more damage depending on the speed of the bottom-most unit in the stack. Put a lance on an elf, place him on a fast mount and fight on ideal terrain and the damage becomes devastating! The opposite is also true. Wander into a swamp and your damage drops dramatically. It turns out jousting is much less effective when your mount is barely moving, and somehow still just as committed.Magnar rewards mounted combinations and careful terrain usage, turning speed-points into a weapon. WoodyWoody leads the Wooden faction, a civilization built around contraptions, stationary logistics and an increasingly concerning relationship with trees. His faction introduces weapon launchers capable of throwing melee weapons across long distances. Swords, torches and even fish can all become ammunition, which has led to several engineering discussions that start serious and end with someone saying “yeah that should work” for no clear reason.Woody has no natural workers. Instead, he relies entirely on Trap Workers, stationary units that collect resources from adjacent tiles and deliver them to any storehouse that they can reach without moving. To compensate, Woody receives a harvesting bonus and gains a large number of storehouses in every circle for free.He can also construct Foresters, steadily generating new trees and helping his wooden empire continue spreading across the battlefield. At th...
