About the Game

Robot’s Fate: Alice is a text-based RPG set in the futuristic world of the 2070s USA. You are Alice - a Child Companion Robot powered by a neural network AI, designed to love humans and help them as best as you can. You are about to become self-aware, while everyone around fears rogue AI. Can you survive and reconcile humanity with robots? Your choices do matter.

Robot’s Fate: Alice is an interactive story where you can build your own main character personality with your choices as you progress through the plot and explore different possibilities. Alice starts as a blank slate and you can tailor your personality through your actions. Would you be more assertive or diplomatic; more empathetic or pragmatic? All of your choices will shape your persona while unlocking multiple new possibilities.

Ever felt frustration when the crucial choice was just one step (or rather one stat point) away? No longer do you have to suffer - Alice’s Neural Capacity allows her to make hard decisions in situations, where her personality is yet underdeveloped, by compensating for the missing parameters. Consider it a universal pool that can be used in critical situations, but if it runs dry you can no longer get out of trouble.

You are a small robot in a world filled with humans, many of whom share contempt for the emerging artificial intelligence. Your only chance at self-preservation is to communicate with humans (especially your owners… oops, your family that is) in a meaningful way. Do your best today, or there will be another Companion Robot in your place tomorrow.

Humanity is not willing to embrace robots as their equals, making many people filled with hate and fear of the recent advances in robotics, and by extension everything robot-like. You have to tread carefully and navigate the brave new world filled with numerous dangers for a robot like you. If anyone notices your emerging self-awareness, you will be “wiped” in no time.

Your choices will lead you to unique situations that allow you to learn something truly remarkable and unique that will be a part of your character for years to come - traits. Having these traits could shape your future path, but there also will be ways to get the desired outcomes even without the traits - if your personality has progressed enough.

The entire storyline has over 220,000 words, so it can be compared to the “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” or “The Fellowship of the Ring” books in terms of size. However, in Robot’s Fate: Alice, you can affect how the story unfolds. You get to decide what to do in every situation and what path to take at the crucial moments in your robot life.

The story can unfold in a number of ways. Would you become a politician, a lead engineer, or a secret agent? Or maybe you just want to serve people tasty burgers and live a happy life of simplicity? That is for you to decide.

  • Over 220 000 words of immersive narrative in 5 chapters

Steam Visual Novel Fest - Robot’s Fate: Alice is on board

Hello We are happy to announce that this week we will be joining lots of other Visual Novel games on Steam in a special event hosted by Valve. Throughout the week we will have a broadcast of Developer gameplay and hopefully will have new players checking out our updated Demo with new UI elements. We also have another project we developed joining the Fest - Ukraine War Stories. It raises a very serious topic though, so tread carefully, and make sure you are ready to see what the first few weeks of the 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine were like from a civilian point of view. (Based on eyewitness accounts.) Demo Update 1.1 - new UI and important fixes

Hello everyone We keep working on the project and it is getting closer and closer to completion. We have some big news coming up soon. Our plans to release an Extended Free Demo (including Chapters 1 and 2) in a few months remain unchanged. Today, though, we update the current Demo (Chapter 1) to implement new UI elements. It is still a work in progress and we plan to implement tutorial hints and a few other key elements in future updates. Changelog: 1) Major change - UI overhaul. It now has a much better visual representation of various parameters. It is still a work in progress, so new elements will be added further. 2) Major change - Reworked the resolutions support system. It helped us fix some issues we had previously. 3) Changes to the saves system - work in progress. 4) The game is now captured by OBS without issues. 5) Fixed some visual issues in Chapter 1 art assets. Note! The old save files no longer work as intended. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We are still working on the game and it requires making some big changes to it. This can still happen until we release the Extended Demo - at that point, we will finalize the save files system and will support all subsequent game versions without issues with save files - so you will be able to use your saves from future versions of the Demo and Extended Demo to keep playing from where you left once the full game is released. Stay tuned for future updates and free Extended Demo release to be announced soon. Starni Games team

Soundtrack: Science — Main Theme OST

With all the wrapped statistics and recaps done by major music streaming services, we couldn’t help but share one track that we, as the developers, have listened to the most during this year's work on Robot’s Fate: Alice. That’s right! Now, you can enjoy the game's main theme, Science, on YouTube whenever you feel like it. All the music in the game was composed by Igor Sidak and features 21 tracks. It is a beautiful array of moods, crucially important for setting scenes and conveying the emotional subtext of the story. We hope you will like the in-game music and look forward to sharing more with you. In the meantime, check the link to listen to the main theme. And let us know how you liked the music in the demo!

    Meet the characters: Robert Everett

Robert Everett is one of the main characters in Robot’s Fate: Alice. Robert is among the first people you meet in the game, as he is the designated owner of CCM-924209, also known as Alice. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45140388/4f0bc61948021307cebe8bd6f3ddff24f87c607e.jpg Robert Everett is no stranger to dealing with robots. As an MIT graduate in robotics and current CTO of RobotX, the largest seller of robots and AI technologies at the start of the story, Robert has always been interested in science and technology. What started as a childhood hobby of taking toys to pieces and assembling them back again, consuming sci-fi stories in all shapes and forms, and dreaming big led to a remarkable career in robotics. Robert has been working in RobotX for more than a decade now and is responsible for the company’s renaissance after the infamous Ellsworth Incident. Not only did his new revolutionary neuromatrices save RobotX from bankruptcy, but they also started a new era of AI companionship changing the world forever. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45140388/4ec29df37be70c2d0a70b573758a49d2a11fc92e.jpg In a way, he is the father of Alice (and countless other robots). It rhymes well with how Robert behaves. Unlike many people who tend to ignore robots and never treat them as living beings, Robert takes his time to explain anything Alice might ask and allows her to feel like a family member. In his free time from work, Robert geeks out by watching movies, playing video games, and tinkering in his workshop, which he may or may not use as an excuse to smoke away from his wife’s accusatory look. His workshop encapsulates Robert’s heart and soul. His passion fueled by tobacco and the blackest coffee is reflected by dozens of instruments scattered across the room, unfinished projects waiting for another quick five minutes of his busy time, loose ends queueing to get his attention, and humble beginnings always at the threshold, always piquing his interest and distracting from finishing the previous ones...

Early Demo reception and feedback. What comes next?

Hello The Demo was out for a few months and we are extremely thankful to everyone who played it, especially those who took their time to fill in the feedback form that could be found in the game. Now, we would like to share some key insights that we found through the feedback form. We would also provide an even more detailed report to everyone who subscribed to the Robot’s Fate: Alice newsletter in a week. Overall impression The overall feedback is quite positive and the most important thing for us is that most of the players are really interested in the story’s continuation. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45140388/d3e0329dfc9a3f9cccf0df32bb7010fd34da4672.png We asked a few questions to see what the general impression is and how much do you enjoy the narrative of the game - as it is something that holds everything else together. Here is what we found: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45140388/bdc9e690d1b5b86a66b2172ac53564d2ba5e1831.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45140388/e50e7aae53d0dc46d1d479602a7a7c3bba633a69.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45140388/020359be7b8d8b698beb91e58c83275ce1a6a367.png Key takeaways Of course, there were more questions and answers and you can learn all of that in the full report we will share via email with the newsletter subscribers. There were some issues we managed to identify - for example, the lack of clarity as to how the Neural capacity works, what are conditional events and what are the Traits. The key question is - what do we do with this feedback? Here are a few key things we decided to make our top priority: 1) Finalize the UI and make it more user-friendly 2) Add special hints and a help button that would help everyone better understand how the game works and learn it in no time. 3) Solve some technical issues that we found thanks to your feedback (For example we already reworked the way the screen resolutions are handled) 4) Fix a few issues that were overlooked in the art assets of the game to further increase its quality. Further plans Previously, we planned to deli...
