Discover hidden passages and solve puzzles as you move through various apartments in Korter 1996, an indie adventure game where each flat holds secrets waiting to be uncovered.

About this game

It’s 1996 and it's raining. Your first apartment, your first quiet night away on your own. Soon after unpacking your first box, finding what your siblings packed away for you, arranging your cassette tapes, and hanging up your favourite denim jacket you accidentally crack open the back of your wardrobe, revealing a portal into your neighbours lives. Interacting and solving puzzles with their personal belongings, you begin to learn who they are, what their lives are like, and how through the lens of loneliness, you can feel connected.

Gameplay

Korter 1996 is an exploration of loneliness in a point and click adventure game. You can organise and decorate your new apartment and go on expeditions to other people's homes to find more items. While exploring different apartments on the block, you get to solve puzzles that will lead you to more information on each of the inhabitants. How you interact with the items in their apartments will move forward their story and through item dialogues you get to know about their lives.

    The Items Update

It's update time again! We had a lot of fun with this one. We've spent so much time going through each apartment and adding appropriate items for the resident to make everything feel more lived-in. Some of our apartments were a little sparse, feeling more like a place to lay out the player's puzzles than a place that our characters genuinely lived in. We hope that we have expressed each character's unique personality in their choice of belongings and layout, without obscuring the puzzles too much! Not only do the residents of Korter 1996 get more items, you do too! We've almost doubled the number of catalogue pages (if you haven't seen it, the catalogue unlocks about a third of the way through the game). You now have access to many more items from other apartments for your own decorating, and even some unique items designed to blend together items from different apartments' colour palettes. We've also completely revamped the main menu and pause menu. More options, tidier UI, confirmation when you delete a game, all great stuff! Throw in some Mac fixes and that about sums up our update. We hope you enjoy playing as much as we enjoyed making this one! The full changelist is as follows;ItemsAdded so so so many new itemsEach explorable apartment has had attention given to areas that felt empty and appropriate items have been addedSome of these items have been added to the catalogue for decorating your apartmentA few sets of "rainbow" items have been added to the catalogue, which appear in matching colours for each apartment's colour palette, and add several in-between shades to help bridge the gap when decoratingImproved the art on some existing items that felt flatReplaced some placeholder art on some important itemsCatalogue Added an extra page per apartment with improved background artMassively increased the number of items availableFixed the book colour switcher and made it dependent on your progress in the gameAdded a few "container" items to the catalogue that let yo...
