Embark on an epic climb as a rat in Rat Climber, where every inch of terrain hides new obstacles. Can you reach the summit?

About this game

You are a rat. You must climb.

Cheese and glory await!

In Rat Climber, you only have one goal: reach the top of the world.

You must navigate vertical labyrinth zones and make daring jumps, but be careful; one false move and you go tumbling down.

Three different modes

  • Beginner:

Checkpoints menu enabled, allowing for custom save-load checkpoints, as well as three specific world checkpoints. Play at your own pace and learn the path up, one step at a time.

  • Normal:

The normal Rat Climber experience. Checkpoints disabled. Achievements for reaching the end of each world enabled!

  • Speedrun:

For speed-runners, or those wanting to practice a specific part. Checkpoints menu enabled, as well as superjump, which basically allows Ratty to fly.

You also have access to the level-specific restart option, letting you restart at any of the 12 zones across both worlds.

Two different worlds

Play through two different worlds for twice the rodent fun!

  • Ratty's World: The original seven Rat Climber levels

Seaside Village, Crystal Mines, Cypress Swamp, Ancient Egypt, Mystic Towers, Cloud Temple, Shadow Castle

  • Dream World: Five more bonus levels in a separate world

Kraken Cove, Tempest Tavern, Playground, Foggy Fortress, Lush Ruins (with more in the future)

Secret cheese

There aren't hundreds of collectibles for you to worry about, only a single secret cheese per level, well hidden and off the beaten path...Can you find all seven?

Every object has 1-to-1 exact collision

If there's a small gap between objects, you can probably fit through. A 3 inch ledge? You can stand on it, Ratty! Building ledges are the highways of the rodent world, as they say. Start thinking like a rat.

Helpful signs

Your Rat ancestors left helpful tip signs all around the world. They will give you useful advice and encouragement on your journey. Be sure to look for the golden sparkles!

Simple controls

- There are only 3 controls: Jump, dash, and walk

The dash lets you jump farther

The safety walk prevents you from walking off of ledges

Built for speed-running

Rat Climber was built for speed-running! There are a multitude of speedrun tools built into the game, such as:

  • Overall timer that starts as soon as Ratty moves and automatically stops once you reach the final spot at end of game and lose control of Ratty.

  • Individual level timers (both split times and segment lengths) that automatically record times when you reach new levels, no need to manually start and stop your own custom timer

  • Superjump (allows you to fly) [only in speedrun mode]. There's also option to disable this, so you don't accidentally press it and invalidate a speed-run

  • Custom save and load checkpoints to practice hard sections or skips

  • Restart at specific levels instead of the bottom of world

  • Restart hotkey that must be pressed twice (prevents accidental restarts)

  • Official Speedrun website board with moderators, rules, and runners!

Can you guide Ratty to the top of the world and reach cheese heaven? Try your skills in the best 3D Ratformer ever made!

    Update 1.19

Hello Rattys! An update is now available for Rat Climber, if you do not see it, please restart your steam client. The NightmareThe FINAL zone of Dreamworld (and of the entire game) is called Nightmare and is now available!Ratty's memories of previous levels have reappeared, but warped and more scary. Mind your step and pay close attention to your surroundings, this zone is not forgiving at all. You may just want to turn on glow for your ratty customization to see a little better. It's the final path to the end of the dream and there's almost no recovery paths or handholding, so bring your A-game!Adding levels is the most complex thing in terms of designing and code stuff, so please report any bugs in the bug report topic and I will be sure to fix themTrue EndingBeating Dreamworld will now give you the true ending. You will arrive back at Ratty's World but as soon as you select a mode (beginner/normal/speedrun) you will start in a new, secret location that has been in front of your nose this whole time. What exactly is it? Well you will have to conquer the Dreamworld and see for yourself! (Note: you can do this in any mode (even speedrun mode)Full Dreamworld speedrun category availableThe full speedrun category for dreamworld should be available on speedrun (dot) com very shortly, for those who want to tackle this new world in one sitting. Thank YouAs of writing, there has been 1,172 unique players of Rat Climber since it launched August 2024. That's probably a very small amount compared to a lot of indie games, but I am grateful to each and every single person who has played it. I love you all, all you streamers and friends down under (you know who you are), the game wouldn't have reached the audience it has without you all championing it and working with me to improve it and make it better. This is the end of Ratty's level expansions, both worlds are now complete. I still might put out new patches in the future with bugfixes or small extra stuff to add into the game, ...

    Update 1.18

Hello Rattys! An update is now available for Rat Climber, if you do not see it, please restart your steam client.Redwood RidgeA new zone, Redwood Ridge, has been added to Dream World! Take a peaceful stroll through a gigantic redwood forest that was once the site of a battle between giants (or at least it looks that way from a rat's perspective). This is the 6th zone in Dream World, out of 7 (the final one will be coming in the near future, get ready!) Redwood Ridge has it's share of challenges, but it's less difficult in terms of precision platforming compared to other zones, and is more focused on exploration and routing......so speedrunners who enjoy optimal pathing and clean routes, get ready to shine! Cheese improvementAdded particles for eating cheese, to improve the lore experience.Lush Ruins (IL) Speedrunning UnlockedFor those who participate in Individual Level speedrunning of specific zones, the Lush Ruins are now available to submit runs to on the official speedrunning boardOnce the final Dream World zone is added to the game, the Redwood Ridge will follow the same process and become unlocked. This is only because the latest level will always end in a portal back to Ratty's World while Dream World is being built, and once the next level is made, that portal gets moved and a proper rope transition with permanent end point gets added, and I unlock that level for IL runs.In the next patch, 1.19, the final level should be added and every zone will be unlocked for IL runs, and dreamworld will become a full run category on its own.

    Update 1.17

Hello Rattys! An update is now available for Rat Climber, if you do not see it, please restart your steam client.MODESMain menus have been added for Ratty's World and Dream World. They will show your customized rat. Choose from 3 modes: Beginner Mode - For new players learning the game. Your location can be saved. Teleport back there, or to any unlocked world checkpoints at any time. The achievements for reaching the end of each world (Climbing Rat and Dream Rat) are disabled in this mode.Normal Mode - The normal Rat Climber experience. Location saving and checkpoints disabled. You will always begin at the very start. All achievements enabled!Speedrun Mode - For speedrunners or practicing. Level select and superjump unlocked. Checkpoint menu unlocked. All achievements disabled! Secret cheese disabled!RAT RACETRACKAdded a racetrack to lush ruins and a buffed version of the blue cheese called HYPER cheese. It goes REALLY fast. To end the hyper speed you must return to the start of the racetrack where the info sign is. The effect also ends if you restart from menu, from restart hotkey, or by falling out of the lush ruins level. Your latest completed lap time is saved. You can restart the lap timer by re-touching the blue cheese again or by completing a lap to allow for continuous laps.UNIFIED LEVEL START POINTSPreviously, level transitions (where it changes from day to night, or rain/fog turns on etc) happened usually mid-rope or mid-chain between zones and recorded your zone completion time at that spot, but restarting from a specific level through the speedrun menu would start you at the end of these ropes or chains on the new zone's flat ground. This was an issue because that meant level lengths in a full speedrun were different from ones done via specific level restart through menu, and you couldn't submit a clipped section of a full run as an individual level speedrun.I have unified the spot where levels transition and where the restart point is as closely as possi...

    Hotfix July 4th, 2026

Hello Rattys! A new update is now available for Rat Climber, if you do not see it, please restart your steam client. This patch should fix the movement issues some people were having. I did not have this issue all throughout my testing phase, so I wasn't aware of it, or what is causing it, but I greatly suspect it's a combination of custom movement code I added to allow new movement keybinds, combined with a framerate option that was set within Unreal itself To fix this, I have completely removed the added movement code, so unfortunately I will not be able to support custom movement keybinds at this time. I also added framerate limiter dropdown menu in the graphics submenu where you can cap the game's FPS to 30, 60, 90, 144, 240, or 0 (which will be uncapped) If you are still experiencing issues, or notice that your game's performance is suddenly worse, I highly suggest trying out these framerate settings to find a good fit for your specific PC I'm once again very sorry the update launched with such a critical bug. My deepest apolocheese. I'm just a solo dev with only my specific computer and it's specs, and stuff can slip by me! So I thank you all very much for reporting your issues so quickly, it really helps me because I would've never known about it until someone mentioned it. Keep being awesome, rattys, and good luck on your climbs!

    Update 1.16

Hello Rattys! An update is now available for Rat Climber, if you do not see it, please restart your steam client.Lush RuinsA new zone, Lush Ruins, has been added to the end of Dream World, bringing it to 5 total zones so far! There is a brand new power up here, the Blue Cheese. Collect it and you will be able to run FAST. This will allow you to ramp off of ramps and reach far-away sections of the ruins. Don't worry if you accidentally miss your mark, this is a special zone - there is fall protection for the first time in Rat Climber. If you fall below the zone while in a speed boosted state, you will automatically restart at the beginning of the zone (but ONLY if you are in the super speed mode. A regular fall will still send you down into the abyss). Please note, also, that holding dash or safety walk while in a speed boost state will not do anything, so you don't have to worry, every speed dash will always be the same speed and send you generally the same distance. It is cancelled if you try to move backwards behind the Blue Cheese item, and it's also cancelled the moment you land on solid ground, even a small hop in place. Those who previously had beaten Dream World before this point by reaching the end of Misty Fortress should still have the ability to respawn at any zone and won't have to re-unlock it. Have fun!More Signposts29 new signposts have been added to Dream World, left behind by your ancestor rat explorers long ago. They give useful advice as well as providing small tidbits of fun. You will come across sea pirate(PiRAT) shanties, encouragement, and even life lessons.Kraken Cove FixesThere are a few spots in Kraken Cove where fences and planks have been added to make the main path more clear: some spots in the tentacle bay that were leading people astray and causing confusiona part on the pirate ship where it wasn't reading well that you can fit in between the stacks of cargoand a notorious part midway through the lower section that accidentally caused man...
