When a hero guild saves the village of Torden from a kobold threat, tavern keeper Herb is inspired to pursue his own heroic journey.

PixelQuest - Herb's Adventure offers a nostalgic experience in the vein of classic 16-bit RPGs. Immerse yourself in a richly crafted world, interact with a wide range of NPCs, engage in tactical battles, and discover powerful new equipment. Whether you follow the main storyline or explore side quests, you'll encounter a host of intriguing characters and stories.

Level up, enhance your attributes, and customize your combat dice with new faces. Develop your skills and spells through an extensive skill tree spanning four key attributes: Strength, Agility, Skill, and Talent. Choose your path to become a melee powerhouse or a versatile battle mage.

  • Tactical Dice Combat System: Engage in strategic battles using combat dice. Equip a variety of weapons, armor, and shields to gain additional dice, and use experience points to unlock and improve die faces.
  • Deep Skill Tree: Tailor your character's growth with a comprehensive skill tree. Focus on Strength for powerful melee attacks, Agility for defense, Skill for special abilities, or Talent for potent spells.
  • Many Abilities and Items: Use rerolls, techs, and spells to maximize your potential in every encounter. Utilize items like healing potions, throwing darts, and smoke bombs to turn the tide in tough battles.
  • Engaging Exploration: Traverse a vibrant world filled with secrets and side quests. Meet unique characters, uncover hidden lore, and experience a story rich with humor and heart.

    Challenge Cave and New Ending

This update introduces the Challenge Cave and addresses the two most reported issues with PixelQuest - Herb's Adventure: the open-ended story and the size of the skill trees. The Challenge Cave The challenge cave is a new game mode where you'll face a series of increasingly difficult fights while leveling up far beyond what's typically achievable in a normal playthrough. But beware, the dangers found deep within the cave are also unmatched in the normal game. Can you make it to the end? {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45129431/6a4aa096670b6c8b4d61796bf7cf4ed5103f4ca8.jpg The challenge cave unlocks after completing the main story once. It can also be unlocked directly from the settings menu. You can continue with your character from the main game or start a new challenge run from level 1 via the main menu. A New Ending The story of PixelQuest - Herb's Adventure was originally conceived as part of a larger storyline and ended in a way that would allow for a seamless continuation at a later point. From your feedback, I now understand that's not what many players expect from an indie game and have changed the final part of the game to give Herb's story a proper conclusion. I've also removed a few instances of where locations or dialogs hinted at events outside of this game's storyline. I hope that these changes reduce the impression of the game being unfinished and lead to a more satisfying overall experience. Since this makes a couple of achievements obsolete, there is an option in the settings menu to switch back to the open-ended story, where these achievements can still be obtained. Skill Tree Display I originally designed the skill trees in a way that would make it unlikely to run out of things to unlock even when putting all points into the same branch and finishing the game at an above-average level. However, I now understand it can be frustrating to not be able to unlock everything you want during a normal playthrough. To address this, skill trees are now only visible up to ...

    Version 1.1.1

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45129431/1043a9b1dd58ac3a2bc6c62e55c0ae1cff007775.png New Abilities can now show the resulting numbers instead of the scaling formulas. This can be switched by pressing X. Random encounters now become less frequent once Herb reaches a level that's high compared to the area he's in. This should reduce the tediousness of frequent low-level battles while not interfering with leveling much. During that sidequest, Amira will now give a clue on how to tackle it after a couple of failed attempts. The mayor now has additional dialogue should Herb return to her unexpectedly. Defeating the single wolf in the kobold cave no longer counts towards the first-round victory achievement, as this would easily be done with a lucky roll. Fixes Fixed mouse not working on the battle speed option. Fixed being able to accidentally skip the outro sequence by pressing other keys than Escape. Fixed being able to walk around the right wall towards the south end of the Doholez map. Nothing to see here!

    Demo Update: More Tutorials!

Thanks for your feedback! This update adds two new tutorials: When you gain a new die face, this replaces one of your existing faces. For a start, it's best to replace one of the blank faces. Mana points (MP) remain between fights and can be restored by resting (or items). Spell points (SP) are generated for each fight by rolling the corresponding symbols.

    Demo Hotfix 1.0.11

There was a problem that would cause the demo to stall on the loading screen on some systems. Thank you to everyone who reported the issue and provided log files! This seems to be an issue in the Godot engine and this hotfix contains a workaround that should hopefully allow the demo to load reliably. Fixed issues with hyphenation in text windows
