Demo patch (August 11)

The Demo for Vampirii has been updated. Amiella Xena, a fortune teller, has rented a shop near the Promenade. She is ready to help starting players with tips and fortune-telling.

About the Game

Welcome seeker. Please, take a look at this new take on a vampire story and tell us if it piques your interest.

What is Vampirii? A Ren'Py-based, choice-driven visual novel that features non-linear game play with the possibility to be played indefinitely. The features include:

  • 140,000+ words of story and dialogue.

  • "Living" as a vampire. Feeding is not something that you do once, It is a way of life.

  • Persistent game zones that react to your actions.

  • Leveling and perks.

  • Endgame. Yes, a Ren'Py novel with an endgame. And it works.

  • Quest chains, presented in a realistic, believable fashion.

  • A new threat to vampires, never seen in games before, necessitating novel solutions.

  • Several player lairs.

  • Romance. You can avoid it entirely or plan a full play-through around it.

  • Combat encounters (unlimited supply) with increasing variety and unpredictability.

  • You can be evil. What is the point of good choices if they are the only ones?

  • Left for dead system, depending on the time at night and type of enemy.

  • Ability to beat the game without doing the "Main Quest."

  • Gradual expansion of the game universe, alongside progression.

  • Multiple endings. Some endings are "final" and some let you play indefinitely.

  • Alternative ways to reach certain story milestones.

  • Not all choices are made equal. Some offer much easier gaming experience than others.

What is the main premise? You wake up as a vampire and before figuring things out, stronger beings teach you a quick lesson. Together with friends (or alone) you have to negotiate the danger and survive. Vampirii presents the concept of vampirism in a novel way, staying away from some tired old cliches, while still remaining faithful to the fundamentals.

Immerse in a realistic gameplay loop. If you were to ask yourself "What would it be if I really woke up as a vampire?" then this game is for you. Manage blood levels, pay attention to the time of night, address the wear and tear of your clothes, and try to raise money for those hard-to-get things, while not making it too oppressive to be fun.

What does the Demo include? The Demo contains the raw version of what would be Act 1. It is better to look at it as a "free Early Access" to the first part of the game.

Vampirii also explores the idea of the purpose of vampirism. Friends and foes in the game may offer their insights about this to you, the player. If you choose the main line, part of your path will be uncovering the nature of your new condition and answering the question of "why?". Still, some of the elements of vampirism may remain hidden to you until the very end.

Hunt and feed as you wish and bear the consequences of your choices. Some say that power does not corrupt - it simply allows you to show your true face. Are you ready to reveal yours?

"She wanted to play football with your head. Sadly, vampires' heads don't last when detached from the rest of the vampire. You perish. Part of you in the stomach of a monster, part of you - turned to fine dust. A small group of vampires, in a great need of help, is languishing nearby. Their fate remains uncertain."

Major Update: Original text-heavy and Visualized modes now available

Fellow vampires! With the latest patch now live, players have a choice of which mode of the game to play. Those you care about, you let them eat. Original/Textual: The Original version of the game in which combat and feeding were based on narrative choices, with the game play following a presentation similar to what a game master would narrate. This mode is recommended for new players and for those who want to experience the narration in full, at all stages.Original/Abbreviated: Same as the Original version of the game in which combat and feeding were based on narrative choices, but with the following change: once a situation has been encountered and described, the next time the same situation occurs, the narration is substituted by a short notification of the outcome. There is somewhat less reading and clicking but at the cost of no longer being able to see a description again.Once in Original mode, you can ask the fortune teller to switch between Textual and Abbreviated.Alternative: The Alternative version replaces feeding and combat with interactive elements. Hunting and feeding take faster and the combat rules are different, even though the game balance is similar. In all modes, the game is balanced to be beatable with a character above level 5. The combat perks that appear at levels 4 and higher in the Alternative version are different from those in the Original, offering new strategies. Nevertheless, you still need them to have a chance in combat. Having a knife on you still affects one attack in the Original version and offers no combat bonuses in the Alternative. All quests remain unchanged. The Alternative mode can be treated as a separate game with the same story and additional assets.

    Vampirii 1.5 is now live!

Fellow vampires! I am pleased to announce that Vampirii 1.5 is now live! To a certain extent, outside the quests and storyline, it is a new game. I invite you to try it, whether for the first time or as a returning player, and if you like what you see, feel free to leave a kind word and let your friends know. What has changed? {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45079568/ee581c9a52ccd437bd59d4f8be5f7f117bc6e660.gif Combat overhaul The menu choices are gone, replaced with an interactive system. You can choose which enemy to attack. Enemies fight back during their turn, using their weapons. To keep the overall difficulty close to the original, there has been some rebalancing. All human enemies now have 4 hit points. The dice-dependent chance for an enemy to dodge your attack is gone. In Vampirii 1.5, there is only one character—a potential ally—who retains the ability to dodge. Health regeneration per turn, if a character has it, now applies in all battles. Loot drops dynamically, and there is no recap screen. This allows for some hit-and-run strategies. The “rage” and “see prey” modes are gone. You will have access to new perks starting from level 4 You are capable of reloading and firing the launcher during the same turn in the form of two separate actions. The close combat/distant combat system, already present in the earlier version, has been made more explicit. If you don’t close the distance yourself, enemies advance on you each turn. Your basic attack is weak in the beginning. Don’t expect to win many brawls before reaching levels 4-5. This is consistent with the difficulty in the original. Like the original, you can bring one of three possible allies to the final encounter (or try it solo), which has been rebuilt entirely. If an ally can use a launcher, they will fire each turn, as long as you have provided ammunition in advance. At a later stage of the game, there is a UI indicator for how much of a “certain challenge” you will be facing. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45079568/1ebd52bb7...

    Changes are coming

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45079568/27d0744f31ca9426bfbe39815e907f3851898e1f.png When I began working on Vampirii, my idea was to recreate the experience of a tabletop game where players sit and let the game master lead the narrative with intriguing descriptions, relying on dice rolls only here and there. Believe it or not, the original idea was that even the combat scenes would be entirely narrated. Of course, this didn't happen, and instead, Vampirii settled on a middle ground. Player feedback and experience, however, suggest that narration, or menu-based encounters, do not suffice. For this reason, to make the game loop in Vampirii more enjoyable and allow players to experience its unique story with all of its branches, the following changes are underway: Combat Overhaul: Despite all the work that went into the current system, including the secret battles (which of you has fought other vampires in Oswald?), Vampirii's combat will change from being based on menu choices to an interactive one. You will be able to select which opponent to attack, and at the end of the turn, your opponents will fight and fire back. Human opponents will use their fists, knives, rifles, etc., to hurt your blood pool. They will drop loot dynamically, so there will be no more battle recaps. As a consequence, the combat perks will be changed. One will improve your fang attack, while another will give you a one-time advantage for each encounter. This will lead to changes in balance, but the goal is to keep the game difficulty roughly the same. Breaking and Entering Overhaul: Similar to the combat overhaul, the breaking and entering portion of feeding will change from being based on menu choices to an interactive one. Outdoor hunting for game, although already fast and rewarding, will receive the same treatment as combat. When?: This will be ready by mid-April, probably sooner.
