Gallipoli - Upcoming New Weapons & DLC
Hello everyone!Ali Al Muntar arrives in just a week’s time, on October 1st, so today we wanted to take a look at the four new weapons coming to Gallipoli for free, as well as the two premium cosmetic DLC Packs. We took an extensive look at Ali Al Muntar last week, but the Flyover just arrived! Check out the blog here and watch the Flyover:Without further ado, let’s get into the weapons and the DLC!WeaponsPattern 1914 EnfieldFaced with the long-range capabilities of the Mauser 1893 and 1895 during the Second Boer War, the British were in need of a high-velocity, accurate rifle. The Pattern 1914 Enfield took the role of a sniper rifle, being more accurate than the standard issue SMLE. The bulky sights of the P14 Enfield made it easier to use at longer distances, but the rifle wasn’t equipped with telescopic sights until 1918.In Gallipoli, the P14 Enfield currently features the longest range and highest handling stability of any British rifle, at the cost of stopping power and weight. It has a 5-round capacity, loaded in chargers (stripper clips).Available to the British Empire for the following kits:Spotter: Observer KitAmmo Bearer: Quartermaster KitRifleman: Combat KitWinchester M1866This Wild West-classic lever-action rifle was purchased by the Ottoman Empire in 1870 and 1871, and saw usage in the 1877 Russo-Turkish War. The Winchester M1866 was quite outdated by WW1, but its rugged construction and capacity made it a reliable option. It fires the .44 Henry handgun cartridge, which could also be fired by revolvers like the S&W No. 3 and Colt Single Action Army. The Winchester M1866 in Gallipoli is similar in power and range to a revolver, making it rather weak for a rifle. However, it makes up for this quite handsomely: it currently has the highest fire rate of any single-action rifle and a luxurious 14-round capacity.Available to the Ottoman Empire for the following kits:Engineer: Saboteur KitStretcher Bearer: Field Medicine KitCharger-Loading Magazine Lee-Enfield MK...Read full article on Community Announcements (Jelle)AnnouncementsOfficial
Gallipoli - Introducing Ali Al Muntar
Hello everyone!Today, we’ll reveal more about the upcoming map ‘Ali Al Muntar’, from its history to its features, and of course, the role of the tanks in Gallipoli!Second Battle of GazaThe Ottoman Raid on the Suez Canal in February 1915 highlighted the potential danger to key British strategic positions from a force attacking out of Palestine across the Sinai Desert. The formation of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in March 1916 was intended to defend the Suez Canal. To achieve this, its commander, General Archibald Murray resolved to be proactive. He pushed the Canal’s defenses into the Sinai and defeated the Ottoman forces he encountered. With the way ahead clear he advanced into Palestine and, in March 1917, attacked the strategically important town of Gaza. It was well-defended with trenches built around thick cactus hedges planted by farmers. This first battle was a muddled mess. With the British on the verge of victory, Murray came to believe he was being outflanked and withdrew his forces. The British Army in the Sinar and Palestine Campaign, 1915-1918. IWM (Q 12757)On April 19th he tried again, drawing on tanks, mounted units, infantry and gas shells. Most of the tanks were destroyed by artillery fire, or disabled by the terrain. The attacking infantry could not reach the city, and men of the 52nd Division struggled to capture the vital hill, Ali-al-Muntar (also known as al-Muntar, Tell Ali Muntar, Ali el Muntar, or many other variations). The defeat cost Murray his position and he was replaced by General Edmund Allenby who would capture Gaza in November 1917 and, then the following year, help conclusively defeat the Ottoman armies in the field. This brought an end to over 400 years of Ottoman rule in Palestine.Destroyed British tank at Gaza, URL: https://nzhistory.govt.nz/media/photo/destroyed-british-tank-gaza, (Manatū Taonga — Ministry for Culture and Heritage), updated 22-Aug-2013Before we look at Ali Al Muntar in Gallipoli, we’d like to take a second to...Read full article on Community Announcements (Jelle)Patch NotesOfficial
