Devlog 4 – The surprising path to the Cat Festival
Well done travelers! We are at the point where you are about to start your Matsuri adventure! Can you hear the festival music around the corner? 🎶🎊 But before you join in the joyous fun, let us share one last story with you – a story about the not-so-obvious evolution of Kimono Cats. 🐱✨ Greg has been making indie games for over 40 years 🎮 – starting in 1983, with his first project (Starflight) released in 1986. Over the decades, he's realised that game development is rarely smooth, and not as fun as it seems. Creative disagreements, missed deadlines, publisher demands, or team-related issues – something always gets in the way...But Kimono Cats turned out to be the exception. 🌸From start to finish, the project ran unusually smoothly. The entire team – including their producer, Riley Lallo (another wonderful person), 💖 worked in perfect sync in short, fun 🎉, and productive meetings. They were self-funded for most of the development, which gave them the total creative freedom and when funding finally came from Apple Arcade, the team had the publisher's complete trust and made the game the way they wanted it. 🙌 ✨Kimono Cats was simply a rare kind of project – built with joy 💖, trust 🤝, and a dream team. 🌈With totally no mishaps to share. 😺Since then, the same team has been working on a new title called Dancing with Ghosts. Once again, the collaboration has been incredibly smooth. Unfortunately, as is often the case in indie development, funding remains a challenge and Greg has had to temporarily part ways with most of the team. Maintaining enough funding to keep teams afloat in today's gaming industry is a challenge.Hopefully, that will change soon. 🤞 Because when the right people come together, great things happen! Thank you for being with us on this unique journey through the world of Kimono Cats. 🐱In the meantime, we won't take up any more of your time – put on your festive kimonos 👘 and head out for a one-of-a-kind date at the Matsuri Festival! Have fun! 💖🎉Read full article on Community Announcements (Akiva_VII)Community & EventsOfficial

Devlog 3 – Introducing the characters of Kimono Cats
Hey future Matsuri-goers! 🐱💕We’re already halfway there! So let's pause for a while to gather strength for the rest of the journey and listen to a new story.🎐This time you’ll learn a little more about the art of Kimono Cats and some of the wonderful participants of our festival! 😻😸 As mentioned before, two artists from Thailand are behind the game's artwork – Ferrari Duanghathai and Tanta Vorawatanakul. Both are huge fans of Japanese culture, with a wonderful imagination and incredible skills. 🎨The overall look of Kimono Cats is entirely their own idea – Greg just described the general vibe while the artists came up with the original style, with little or no direction. 🪭🌈 One of the key concepts that motivated Greg and the developers while designing the Matsuri cat date was the desire to make the game openly supportive of LGBTQ themes 🏳️🌈. Therefore, they included a wide range of feline characters – both gender-neutral and strictly male or female – with no limitations on who could romance whom. ❤️ To further emphasize the message, they put a rainbow up over the heads of two kitties every time they kissed. It’s a gentle but clear celebration of same-sex and gender-diverse relationships. As you may have guessed, making this one simple decision had consequences. Kimono Cats couldn’t be marketed in 26 countries. But Greg and the team felt it was the right thing to do. Kitty love for everybody! 💖🐾😻 It's time to move on – the festival is getting closer! 🚶♀️🎉Read full article on Community Announcements (Akiva_VII)Community & EventsOfficial
Devlog 2 – Designing the Kimono Cats Matsuri Festival
Hey tireless travelers! 🎉🌸 We're getting closer and closer to our destination, but there's still a bit of road ahead before we reach the magical Matsuri. In the meantime, let's stop for a moment, take a breath, and listen to another story. 😌🙏 This time you'll hear a bit about the different sides of Kimono Cats design. 🎨🐾 Greg poured care into the smallest detail of Kimono Cats, so as to convey its cultural depth as faithfully as possible. This wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable help of the exceptional people who assisted him in this project. 😻👘 A true master of minigames assisted in the creation of festival activities at Kimono Cats. Ferry Halim is the lead programmer of the game and also a hugely experienced designer of literally hundreds of mobile games. He easily brought Greg's ideas for mini-games to life. ✨(Greg’s favorite mini-games? Catching Fish 🐟 or Runaway Ramen 🍜 – he just couldn’t decide!) The accurate portrayal of the Matsuri tradition was overseen by Greg's friend from Japan 🗾– Mamiko Suehiro. With her deep cultural knowledge 🎎, Mamiko reviewed every aspect of the game, making suggestions and changes, perfecting the smallest detail of the game.🏮As for the vibrant look of the festival itself – that’s the work of two incredibly talented female artists from Thailand. But more about that in the next story. Time to get back on the road! 🌈🐱Read full article on Community Announcements (Akiva_VII)
