About this game

Overview

Kana Seito Defense is an educational typing defense game that allows players interested in Japanese hiragana, katakana, and kanji to learn and practice them in a fun way.

Each level, you are introduced to a set of hiragana/katakana to learn alongside their English Romanization, also known as romaji. Once you are comfortable in recalling the characters with their corresponding romaji, enemies will spawn in a path and you have to eliminate them by typing the romaji for each Japanese character that are attached to each enemy.

For players interested in practicing strictly Kanji, there are a variety of game modes you can play!

Features

• Play over 15 Levels - Be introduced to a new set of hiragana/katakana characters for each level. Learn and memorize them well as each subsequent level will contain characters that were introduced in previous levels.

• Learn Kana Pronunciations - Each level, the set of hiragana/katakana characters that are introduced are paired with audio clips (provided by Learn Japanese Adventure) to listen to.

• Customize Your Own Levels - Oftentimes, you want to practice certain kana characters or words from certain topics such as colors and food. This feature allows you to practice them in the same fun manner.

• Practice Vocabulary from the JLPT - Studying for the JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test)? Have the option to practice vocabulary from any of the proficiency levels (N5 - N1). Enemies will be accompanied with furigana so you can learn the kanji too! Optionally, you can choose to display only the kanji to really challenge yourself.

• Showcase Mastery of all Kana Characters - In an endless game mode titled Kana Blitz, you can test the breadth of your kana character knowledge as enemies will continually spawn with a Japanese vocabulary word attached to them. How many enemies can you eliminate?

• Play the Kanji Game Modes - Want to learn the 3rd and most complicated writing system? Play the extra kanji game modes like Customize Your Own Kanji Level or Kanji Blitz to level up your vocabulary skills!

• Challenge yourself with Definition Mode - In this game mode option, enemies will spawn with English definitions and you have to type the Japanese translation. This option is available for both kana and kanji.

• Purchase Helpful Items and Stats - Taking down enemies will reward you with tokens. You can use these tokens to buy special abilities and stats from the in-game shop to help you with your Japanese learning journey.

• Look up any Kana Character with ease - Need a quick review? Utilize the Kana Dictionary to search up any kana character and view their romaji, hiragana form, katakana form, and also listen to how its pronounced.

Note: This game currently supports only Hepburn and Kunrei-shiki Romanization. Hepburn is selected by default. The game primarily follows typing in a Windows IME.

Version 1.10 - 2 New Custom Maps and Search Bar Filter Update

Hello everybody! I hope everyone is doing well. Small update for this one.The changes:Added 2 new additional custom maps that you can play for your custom sets or modes like JLPT Practice or the Blitz ModesRefactored the logic for searching Japanese vocabulary in the search bar in some of the dictionary screens. Previously, you could only search via romaji prefix but now results will include words that have the search input as part of its romaji substring. For example, lets say I have words: kakimasu, ki, and dekimasu. Before, if I try to search ki, only ki and kikimasu will appear since both words begin with ki. Now, all 3 words appear since ki is a substring within dekimasu. Thanks for playing!
