We’ve just learned the Moon is a giant alien doomsday factory, which is kind of a bummer. You've been chosen to operate a spaceship into the core and destroy it for us. Think fast, adapt under pressure, and deploy powerful combinations as you fight your way through in this real-time card battler.

Operate your spaceship through the Moon's core in Night Machine, an indie strategy game where quick thinking and strategic card deployment determine survival against relentless alien threats.

About this game

Hello, trainee.

By now you're probably aware that the Moon has experienced a "catastrophic incident." It turns out there's been a gigantic alien machine hiding in there, which is awake now, and we're really not too happy about it.

Your mission is to enter the Moon, make your way to its core, and shut it down permanently.

This is an entry-level position. For your convenience, your ship has been equipped with our latest card interface. Simply feed instructions into the onboard computer and it'll execute them, no experience necessary.

You'll be fine!

Or maybe not. We really can't say.

We've prepared a much longer briefing, but in the interest of time... we're just going to let you get in there and figure it out yourself.

We're all counting on you!

More stuff you might want to know about:

  • Real-time Card Battles: Play cards in the moment, using your reflexes to take advantage of timing-based effects

  • Card Management: Manage your hand, keeping the cards you need from getting discarded

  • Patch Card system: Modify cards on the fly for high-reward combos

  • Multiple ships: Each with distinct loadouts and playstyles

  • Roguelite progression: Unlock new ships and ship mods across runs

    Night Machine Demo - v0.6

Hey, Night Machine devs here. We just released another update to the Night Machine demo:Mod Shop Tech Tree We've fully redesigned the mod shop, added a bunch more mods, and changed it to work more like a true tech tree. It gives you a lot more stuff to spend that tasty helium on.Environmental Events Some nodes now have random environmental events active, like Dusty or Heat Warning, which each change the dynamics of the fight in a specific way.Armor and Card UpdatesWe've multiplied all armor values by 10, and added weapon accuracy (weapons will randomly miss sometimes), as well as different armor damage values per weapon type. These changes should make it more advantageous to equip multiple weapon types, and allow for more strategic loadout decisions. We also added a few more time-based cards, similar to Hot Reload, with many more to come.More Story Node Choices We're building out our stable of story nodes, which give you more non-combat choices to make as you progress, and start to reveal the narrative and lore of the world -- we're still not going to tell you what's really going on in the moon until later, though. It's classified.Important NoteWe've updated the location of save files for the demo, to avoid conflicting with playtest and release saves. Unfortunately, this means that any demo progress you had previously will be reset. This should be the one and only time we need to do this. If you really want to keep your old save files, come ask us on Discord and we'll tell you how to migrate those files over to the new directory (it's a little finnicky and might lead to some bugs, so we don't recommend it).Bug fixes and other changes:Updated the main menu backgroundMade hull repair a bit more expensiveBetter in-cockpit HUD elements and notifications during a fightDangerous Plant and Broken Record ornaments no longer deal damage to armorMade the post-process screen effect for Targeting Computer less intenseBetter controller support for a few misbehaving UI elementsMod...

New Night Machine demo update available now!

We've got another demo update ready for you, and this one's packed with additions to the core experience.Ornaments The big new feature this patch. After certain combat encounters, you'll earn ornaments that attach to your ship's windshield. They come in different rarities and carry passive modifiers that stay active for your entire run, things like "if your shields are at 0, increase damage by 50%." You'll collect a handful over the course of a run, but they don't carry over between runs, so each attempt starts fresh.Boss Encounters Got More Interesting Drone ships now accompany the boss fight, acting as minions that go down when the boss does. This should make the encounter feel a lot more dynamic.Pause is Back By popular demand! The pause function has been restored so you can take a breath and think through your next move mid-combat without the clock eating you alive. The keybind is space on keyboard, and the right analog stick on controller (the thing where you push down on it and it clicks... open to suggestions for alternatives).New Weapon Type We're adding a plasma weapons that specializes in shredding armor, giving you a dedicated answer to the tank-ier enemies you'll run into. Some enemies also have these weapons though, which will shred your armor more easily. And some cosmetic stuff:New card art to make cards easier to read and identify at a glanceNew music tracks (some bangers, if we do say so ourselves)Performance optimizations and bugfixes scattered throughoutThanks for playing and keeping the feedback coming, it helps to shape what we work on next.

Big updates to the Night Machine Demo!

Hello everyone! To celebrate Deckbuilders Fest we have released a bunch of big updates to the Night Machine demo. But, before we start off, let us just mention that we’ve added dedicated sections in our Discord where you can chat to the devs, report bugs and help us improve the overall experience. Join us here. Now to the juicy stuff, check out our Video Dev Diary, or read the changelog below: Here’s a rundown of all the updates:Conveyor belt card dealing: Cards now get dealt into your hand from the right, and if you're holding too many cards they get shredded starting from the left. Cards can also be repositioned in your hand, which allows you to prioritize which cards will be discarded first and also lets us add cards with positional effects like "duplicate the card to the right of this card”Timed cards: Added cards which change their behavior based on how long they've been in your hand. For example: Armor repair that repairs 5, but the number goes down every few seconds.More cards: Added a bunch of other new cards to the roster, too!Balance changes: Tweaked things like weapons and armor, loot drop rates, enemies, cards, and shop pricings. We’ll of course keep improving balance as more features and content gets added.Ship Mod Update: Multiple levels of the same mod can no longer be stacked, so if you have “Sabotage 1 and 2” unlocked, only Sabotage 2 can be applied. See it more like “upgrading your mods” instead of unlocking multiple.Selected Card Zoom: To help people with smaller screens, you can now make your selected card bigger and easier to read (or smaller, if you want to see more of what’s going on behind it).Controller Support (WIP): We now have controller support! Let us know if you run into any issues.Other Improvements: Unlocked items and cards now appear after a run, the starter decks for both ships have been tweaked, and as always, tons of smaller updates and bugfixes have been made. Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more!
