A medieval sandbox. Serve a king, rule your own fief, or raise a claimant to the throne. Marry, scheme, rebel, claim a crown, or just watch. Every NPC in this world lives by the same rules you do, driving it toward collapse. Stopping it is your task; the higher you rise, the more ways you have.

In The End of History, shape your own path as king or rebel. Marry, scheme, and claim the throne in this medieval sandbox where every character’s actions lead to a world on the brink of ruin.

About this game

Thinking about buying The End of History?

The End of History is not a game where you play a hero who shapes the world. It is a game where you observe a world that keeps moving on its own, step in from time to time, and witness a history that belongs only to you.
In combat, what matters is not your action skill, but strategy and the choices you make.

The free demo lets you play the full game, exactly as it is.

Each save ends after two in-game years, but there is no limit on play time, and your progress carries over to the full version. See where the world goes as it begins to move on a far greater scale in the full release.

We recommend trying the demo first if you are someone who:

  • Wants to "conquer" or "complete" each individual NPC (NPCs act unpredictably and will not bend to your will)

  • Mainly wants fast, satisfying action combat (combat here is about strategy and command)

  • Wants to see a fixed story reach its ending (there is no set story or scenario)

Strongly recommended if you enjoy:

  • A world where NPCs feel truly alive, and the joy of observing and influencing their lives

  • Embracing developments beyond your control as part of the story

  • Watching a world that moves on its own, stepping in now and then

About the Game

You begin as a nameless wanderer. What you become is up to you.

Serve. Earn renown and enter the service of a kingdom (leading a company or a band of brigands? bring them with you). Prove yourself in its wars and rise through the ranks: the higher your rank, the more soldiers you command. Your lord will hand you orders, some of them unreasonable. Gain vassals of your own, and you can hand those orders down.

Rule. Distinguish yourself and receive a fief. Collect its taxes, develop its farms and trade, and invest in the libraries and institutions that keep its people content, or simply let it rot while you chase glory elsewhere. Grow strong enough as a lord of the realm, and you can raise your banner against your king and found a kingdom of your own.

Devote. Or claim nothing for yourself. Find someone worth believing in and spend your life raising them to a throne.

Love. Court the people you grow close to. Marriage brings children. They're born into your nation and your faction, carrying your bloodline into the next generation.

Watch. Or simply live, and watch history happen. The world does not wait for you.

Armies march on their stomachs. A long campaign needs porters as well as soldiers, and a war that drags on will drain your granaries before it drains your enemy's.

Prolonged war devastates the land. Fields go untended and public order breaks down. Run short on supplies and manpower, and rival kingdoms will swallow you whole. Recovery is slow, deliberate work: repair the walls, restore order, invest in farms and trade.

Become king, and the kingdom answers to you alone: set the crown's research, grant or strip the fiefs of your vassals, forge alliances, declare wars.

Research does not stand still. Wars that begin with swords and bows end in gunpowder, firearms, cannon wagons, and flying battleships. When the age of knights ends, you decide whether to lead the new age or refuse it.

Every rumor in this world travels through conversation, and you can start one. Praise an ally to strengthen your faction. Repair your standing with resentful vassals. Whisper about a rival king to his own nobles and watch his realm split. Or broker peace between two crowns before the war starts at all.

Information moves the same way. Whoever you are hunting, whatever you are looking for, the trail starts with a drink in a tavern.

Everything above is also true for every NPC in the world. They earn renown, take service, win fiefs, found factions, marry, and rebel, whether you are watching or not. But not everyone here wants a crown. Each is chasing a goal of their own: some want power, others just want their nation, or their people, to endure.

Relationships work the same way too. Grow close to someone, and their friends warm to you while their enemies mark you as one of them. This web binds NPCs to each other just as it binds them to you.

And death is never the end of a story. Kill someone in battle and their family and closest friends will remember exactly who did it. Settle that vendetta with another death, and it doesn't end there: it becomes someone else's grudge to carry. The feud that ends your campaign may be several deaths removed from the one that started it, between people who never met.

You are the last of the long-lived. With his dying breath, the old man who raised you gave you your purpose: watch history, and keep it from ending. As wars drag on and grudges accumulate between nations and people, the world's Collapse advances. Let it reach its limit, and history itself ends.

The task itself never changes, whatever you choose to do with your life. What grows as you rise, as a vassal lord, a king, or the power behind one, is how much you can actually do about it: end wars through diplomacy, narrow the gap between your richest fiefs and your poorest, crush the warmongers by force, or quietly turn old enemies into friends. A world with full granaries, safe roads, libraries, and parliaments grows tolerant, and tolerance slows the Collapse.

The dilemma is that living in this world feeds it. The revenge you are owed advances the Collapse. The war that wins you a crown advances it faster. Every character around you is pursuing their own ends inside the same constraint, and their choices weigh as much as yours.

At the center of this world stands the Obelisk: a vast structure said to have once held limitless knowledge. What it is, and what it has to do with the Collapse, is yours to find out.

There is no predetermined scenario in this game.
The "history that is observed" through countless events becomes a story that is yours alone.

"My spouse died in battle. I went to war to avenge them, and by the end of my revenge, the world had collapsed."

"I never took a crown. I spent twenty years as the right hand of an NPC I believed in, and together we unified the continent."

"I executed every prisoner from every kingdom I conquered. Their families remembered. The declarations of vengeance never stopped coming."

These are all one-of-a-kind stories experienced by real players.
A different history unfolds every playthrough, leaving you thinking "I want to try this differently next time" even after dozens of hours.

"The End of History" 2026.8.31 Update & Patch Notes

📢: Items marked with this icon are improvements made based on player feedback.UpdatesExpanded Conversations That Convey a Character's Intent📢When an "Affiliation Changed" notice appears on the right side of the screen and the character is one of your vassals or a character you are observing, hovering over it now opens that character's Talk UI. They explain in their own words why they changed their affiliation. You can now follow not only who moved where, but the reasons behind it.📢Changed the dialogue spoken when one of your vassals rebels against you or declares independence so that it better reflects their situation. Motives such as holding a grudge against you, or having World Conquest as their ambition, now come through in their words. Defections that looked like sudden betrayals can be traced back to a reason.Specification / Balance AdjustmentsAdded a mouse-hover UI when requesting to serve at a Ruler's Manor, showing which of the conditions the NPC liege requires in order to hire you are currently met. You can now see what you are short of, instead of repeating the request without knowing why you were turned down.Changed the Received Orders info UI so that an order whose completion conditions are already met, and which now only needs to be reported at a Ruler's Manor, is clearly marked as "Awaiting Report".📢Increased the chance that young characters below a certain age start unmarried in the initial state of a campaign. This makes it less likely that the NPC you want to marry is already married. Note that NPCs will gradually marry one another as the campaign progresses.Bug Fixes📢Fixed an issue where a rare freeze could occur under a specific combination of conditions when countries concluded a peace treaty while NPCs were in combat.

"The End of History" Developer Letter #7 - August 2026

Thank you as always for playing "The End of History".Here is our report on August, along with our development plans for September. Looking Back on AugustCentered on the adjustments to "World Collapse" described in our last letter, we delivered an update on August 27.Below we explain the intent behind its main points. Making World Collapse ReadableIn the last letter, we said we wanted to present "why it is rising, and how it can be lowered" more clearly. As a first step, we have had the witch Ashbury speak about World Collapse. When you found a country, an event now occurs in which Ashbury explains World Collapse. After that, you can call her at any time from the crystal icon on the World Collapse panel to hear hints on lowering it.We believe the feedback that it "feels like a time limit" comes largely from not being able to see what World Collapse is responding to, so we prioritized making the situation readable first. We have also revamped the conversation with Ashbury when the world collapses and you reach an ending. Drawing on the state of the world at that moment and the record of how you arrived there, she describes what kind of person you were and offers advice on holding the collapse back. Adjusting the Link Between War and CommerceWe also addressed the behavior where World Collapse spikes sharply simply because a territory changed hands in war. When a territory with high Commerce becomes the battlefield of a siege, the drop in Commerce after the battle is now larger. Previously, Commerce rarely fell once it had risen, which locked commercial disparities between countries in place and made World Collapse move sharply the moment a territory changed hands. By introducing the behavior that land struck by war suffers commercially as well, Commerce itself now shifts far more dynamically. 17 New Events That Occur in TerritoriesWe have added 17 new events that occur when entering a territory.None of them is a long event on its own. Rather than scattering random vignett...

"The End of History" 2026.8.27 Update & Patch Notes

📢: Items marked with this icon are improvements made based on player feedback.UpdatesExpanded Events and Conversations📢Added 17 new events that occur when entering a territory. Through these brief conversations, we have worked to draw more attention to the lives and relationships of NPCs.Added dedicated dialogue before battle when invading the final territory of an enemy country.Battles against Roxelana now play a dedicated BGM track.Expanded Explanations of World CollapseAdded an event when founding a country in which Ashbury explains World Collapse. After that explanation, you can call Ashbury at any time from the crystal icon on the World Collapse panel to hear hints on lowering it. Revamped the conversation with Ashbury when the world collapses and you reach an ending. She now diagnoses your play style based on the state of the world at that moment and your past logs.Added Tutorials and HintsRevamped the tutorial for invading a territory.Added a tutorial for pincer attacks in battle.Revamped the tutorial available at the Obelisk Research Facility.Improvements to "Castle" Territories📢Markets can now be built in castles. Castles previously only incurred costs, offering little benefit to owning them; now you can strengthen Commerce with a market and earn tax revenue.Barracks can no longer be built in castles. Castles have no Public Order stat, which made the facility meaningless. This applies to new campaigns and sandboxes started after the update.Improvements to the "Purchase Goods" and "Transport Goods" Guild QuestsAdjusted the specification under which most requests were anonymous requests for "weapons". A wider variety of goods now appears, and requests are presented as coming from NPCs who appear in the game, with their information displayed.Added flavor text that can be heard upon completing a request.Character Appearance📢Added a feature where the weapon and shield held in battle change according to equipped items. 📢Added hair style and hair color variations t...
