About this game

Shareholders is an economy \ strategy \ simulator where you can explore various aspects of a virtual economy. Engage in production, manipulate stock markets, manage consumer demand, navigate banking and stock market, and influence global trade through export and import.

Features

Simulated Economy: Experience a truly dynamic world where every person and company is fully simulated. Prices fluctuate based on real-time supply and demand, with no pre-defined values.

Production: Drive the game's economy by creating and managing your own company. Invest in research and development to boost your corporation's output and become the biggest player in the economy.

No hand-holding, No guardrails: Make any decision, even if it leads to the collapse of the in-game world. For example, if you're the sole producer of a crucial industrial good like computer chips and you decide to halt production, the economy will likely crash.

Consumer markets: Navigate a competitive marketplace where companies sell directly to consumers. Establish a brand and dominate the market by attracting consumer dollars away from competitors.

Shareholders: In game companies can be public or private and you can own shares in them. By making right investments you can become rich without ever managing a company.

Regulations and laws: You can change the rules of the game by lobbying and influencing the politics, thus you are free to do regulatory capture and tip the scales in your favor.

    Week 16: Stock Market

Hi, in this update the stock market is introduced. As you've seen some companies have public stock. That public stock can now be traded on the stock market. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45097977/51fde5f1505a2253faf0acaea300336bb13681a8.png The stock price is determined by a very simple algorithm. At the moment it takes into account company assets, liabilities and profitability. I don't want to disclose the exact details, but you can expect that companies that consistently earn more and have more assets(cash and assets) will cost more. Some limitations on the new feature: At times the valuation can be imbalanced. I've seen company valuation go to 1$. Buying or selling stock doesn't affect it's price. As a CEO \ founder you can sell all of your stock and that won't change it's price. This is unrealistic: in real markets big transactions affect stock prices, CEO \ founder transactions affect them even more. This will be addressed in future updates. Also ability to withdraw money from the company was added. This action is called paying out dividends. The money that is taken from company's cash reserves are distributed to shareholders proportionally to amount of shares that they own. Now you can earn money by creating a successful company, withdraw the earnings and invest them into other companies.

    Week 15 - Bonds

Hi all! For past 2 months the development went silent, but now a new update is ready. Warning: Previous save games are broken Let's dive into changes and future plans: Bonds The main new feature added is called Bonds. Bond is a type of a loan, the way that it works currently is that you receive a sum of money(called principal) and then you are obligated to pay out fixed interest payments called coupons. After a certain time(called maturity) you are obligated to pay out the whole principal back. There's a new tab in the company management screen called Finance where you can issue bonds. You will have to select a bank that will facilitate the operation and negotiate terms. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45097977/32b00bca2ecb150f07ed302fff2ce78ad604c429.png Currently you start a game with ~100k USD, which is not enough to build production. Previously the only way to get required capital for building production was to start as a distributor - buy on commodity market and sell to consumers. Now you have a second option of taking out a loan via the new bonds feature and to start the production right away. The feature currently is very minimal: Banks have a limited pool of money that doesn't get replenished beyond what they receive from interest. Banks will always agree to buy your bonds even if your company is in debt. There's no bankruptcy mechanic meaning that the game kind of breaks if your cash goes below zero after paying interest or principal In the future it will get updated, some ideas: You will get a credit rating and banks will either refuse to give you more loans if your credit rating is low Banks themselves will get loans from the central bank Issued bonds will be traded between companies, AI and the public Player will be able to operate their company as a bank Central Bank Credit Rate will change with time, that would change the attractiveness of issued bonds and the terms for the new bonds Related Changes Introducing bonds affect already existing systems. For example int...

    Week 8

What's new Shares added to the game. There are three type of them: Personal Shares - These are regular shares of a company owned by people aka shareholders Treasury Shares - These are shares that company has for itself Public Shares - These are shares that are held by the public Now all companies will have shareholders except the companies created by the player. Here's how it looks: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45097977/9ea0f595430a26a8289ba912737ca93d86e43eaa.png I've also fixed small bugs \ typos. What's next Add a summary about shares in the person screen and also show net worth based on the owned shares + cash Add shareholding logic to company creation (currently companies created by the player won't have shares) Improve UI usability + possibly look into basic tutorial ???

    Week 7

Overview Hi, I'm back from the summer vacation, fully recharged. This week I've added labor market fluctuations. This features makes it so that salaries that workforce is expecting fluctuates based on market supply demand. Labor Market Fluctuations Expected salary depends on the unemployed to employed ratio. High unemployment will lower salaries for newly hired people as they are more desperate to find a job. Low unemployment will raise salaries of newly hired people. Unemployed number could even get negative. This is to simulate labor shortage. You'd have to pay a higher salary to convince people to come out of retirement \ change occupation. This is a major change. Previously the cost of producing commodities was exactly the same for all of the companies. Now different companies will have different costs of producing commodities, because now there's a variable part - labor market. This will enable a lot of dynamism in the market simulation part of the game. Quality of Life Company creation simplified. Now initial budget can be set in the company creation dialog. The value is pre-filled by the game. This should make the game easier for the beginners. Saving tab state. Before this update each time you change the tab in the sidebar the new tab was started from the "clean slate". Now tabs from the sidebar "remember" their state e.g. you can select a company in the Companies tab, then go to other tabs and when you come back to the Companies tab, you'll see the company that you've selected before. Consumer Charts Consumer charts can now be viewed with different granularity (monthly \ quarterly \ ...)

    Week 3 Update:

Current Progress The biggest news is that the public beta is now available on Steam. These weekly updates will make much more sense, you can check what was added \ fixed and see if you want to check on the progress by playing the game instead of looking at screenshots \ text. If you want to help shaping the future of the game, please, consider trying out the demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2920840/Shareholders/ Beware: the experience at the moment is super flaky \ unpolished. Added since last weekly update: Save game: Very simple and crude system, but it looks like it works Character Customization: You can now select your name at the start of the game. Hope this would add some immersion. Reworking the company management UI Trading and production orders are be separated In production tab you can add \ remove \ edit orders 1 by 1, but you can also use a special card with + \ - buttons to quickly increase order parameters without having to make 5+ clicks. What's next Addressing feedback Commodities selection in the "Commodities" screen should persist when switching between screens. Allow bigger time periods of data in the Consumer screen Pressing "Back" button on your mouse should not screw up the game Explain more visually current surplus \ deficit in the production tab. Look into creating first production building be more intuitive Hopefully there will be more feedbacks to fix Labor Market Fluctuation Hiring workers should result in the increase of the expected salaries as there are less of the workers Firing workers should result in the decrease of the expected salaries as there are more of the workers When firing workers they should be entitled to N weeks of severance pay. N is determined by the goverment. NPC Rebalance: Currently, npc companies are not well balanced. I rarely see economy being able to fully fulfill consumer demands without intervention. On top of that labor market fluctuation will make it so that different companies will have different CO...
