Dive into The Croaker, an engaging 2D platformer where you'll navigate 50 distinct levels using a custom level editor. Created by AlienTaker, this indie gem offers easy speedrunning and online challenges through its integrated save/load system and leaderboards.

About this game

The Croaker is a feature-packed game where you collect apples. Where's the fun in that? Well, these apples you collect are used all throughout the game: You can buy skins and banners from the online shop and compete on leaderboards. Also, every time you complete a level, you earn a certain amount of Emeralds, which you can also compete for on their own seperate leaderboards.

There are 50 unique campaign levels (Each one has their own theme), where the protagonist, Jeremy, gets trapped in a simulation and must escape without the antagonist of Virtual Guy finding him. Not only that, there are going to be brand new Bonus Levels every few updates just to keep adding content to the game so you can never get bored.

That's not enough? Well, you can create a level using the in-game level editor and upload it for a chance of me noticing it and tagging it- or better yet, it can become the featured level for everyone to see! There's also account saving so you can never lose your progress.

Update 1.7 (Released January 1st, 2026) nearly doubled the games size with the amount of features it added, and introduced Daily Rewards where you can earn daily Apples and Amethysts, along with a major graphical revamp.

There's so much packed into such a simple game, and the best part is, thre's tons more coming! What's in this version might be a fraction of what you see in a future release! You can take a peek at the screenshots to see how the game looks.

The Croaker - REAL End of Life Announcement

As some of you may know, a few months ago I posted an End of Life announcement for The Croaker. I decided not to end it just yet, but instead, see if people actually cared: I posted an announcement relating to feature suggestions, and if people actually cared about the game, I would add the features suggested and not pull the plug on the game. Unfortunately, after 6 months, not a single feature was suggested, meaning it's about time to pull the plug. There will be one more update for The Croaker releasing in Late August/September for bug fixes, but that's it. That will be the last update.Fortunately, The Croaker II's development has started! So I will continue to post updates about that on my YouTube channel.

    Feature Suggestions

Hello everyone!I am looking for some feature requests from people who play the game. This can basically be whatever you think will make the game better. You don't have to shy away from ideas; everything is on the table (Except for obvious joke ideas)! Place your suggestions for features in the comments/discussion area of this post. An example could be platformer ghosts, which many other games have. (Even though ghosts are an example, enough people still need to ask for them in order for them to make it in the game as I don't know if people actually want that)Again, even if you think the idea is stupid, put it here anyways! It could inspire me to build on your idea and make something better. You must put the username you would like to be credited by in your suggestion in order for me to credit you! Otherwise, I'll have no idea what to go by.Disclaimer: Obvious joke ideas will be deleted (unless i find them really funny), and if you give me a username that is obviously fake (aka pulling a bart simpson) then I will not credit you.

    Maybe Not?

Hello! I just noticed today that the game, out of nowhere, has had a MASSIVE boost in sales. That said, I think it is the right choice to continue working on the game at least for now to please the new players who just bought the game. If it really ends up picking up even more in sales, it will stay alive much longer. But if it declines again (Like back to averaging 0 a month) then I will proably just let it go. P.S- This post isn't saying I only work on the game to make money. I work on it for fun. It just made me extremely disappointed seeing absolutely nobody play or buy the game for such a long period of time.

    The Croaker End of Life

Due to the EXTREMELY low amount of sales The Croaker has generated in the past 3 months and the lack of overall uniqueness the game has, I believe it will be the correct decision to stop working on updates for The Croaker for the forseeable future. The official date for The Croaker's end of life (The date where it will no longer recieve updates afterwards) will be April 20th, 2026 (Exactly 2 years after being released on Steam). The only reason development on such a non-unique game has continued to take place is because of how fun I found it to work on. But recently, I'm just getting tired of it. I don't really see any reason to continue working on it anymore. I haven't even touched the game in 26 days. There might be one or two updates before then, but I really don't see any point in releasing any updates with the amount of units being refunded and the lack of hype from everybody.I'm extremely sorry to everyone who paid for the game. This isn't the end, however; the end of life for The Croaker signals the start of a new game in development shortly. I already have so many ideas and I think it will be infinitely better and more unique than The Croaker ever was.Thank you all for playing The Croaker while it lasted :)

    Birthday Update (1.72)

Happy Birthday to The Croaker! On February 22nd, 2022, I released The Croaker to itch.io. Because of this, I am now hosting a birthday event! Collect as many apples as you can before February 23rd at 2:22 PM for a chance to win a prize! Prizes are listed below:1st place- 1,000 amethysts2nd place- 500 amethysts3rd place- 250 amethystsThe whole top 3 will also recieve a badge for their placement in the next content update. On an unrelated note, I have started to revamp the UI, starting with buttons. You'll notice most buttons now have a fancy click sound effect and more consistent sizing/art. This is the start of the major UI revamps to make everything more consistent and less messy. Again, the DLCs are in development, they're just taking a while due to an internal bug in Unity 6 where tilemaps crash the editor (They heard my complaint and are fixing it for Unity 6000.0.6. It will be worth the wait!
