Delve into the mysterious world of What Awaits, Aleksey—a unique indie game where you decipher coded messages and wiretap recordings to uncover hidden networks in a fictional 1970s communist setting.

About this game

Welcome, Aleksey!

Your application has been approved. We trust that you will prove yourself worthy of your new position as a junior cryptology analyst. This is not just a job. This is Service to the Motherland! The OKO Cipher Bureau is counting on you! Our whole nation is counting on you!

Each day, new evidence will arrive at your desk. Inside, you will find photographs, intercepted correspondence and wiretapes. From seemingly unrelated details, you must draw conclusions: who is who, which name belongs to which face, and what alias hides behind each person.

Show them no mercy. They are subversive elements who, for reasons unknown, continue to undermine the achievements of our Republic!

Stay vigilant: no one here will hold your hand. Every piece of information may prove equally important, and your role is to decrypt, analyze, and ultimately expose the enemies of the nation!

Every document is a piece of a larger puzzle. Photographs do not come with names, and the aliases described in reports are not directly connected to any faces. Some documents only begin to make sense several days later. Your task is to connect these clues and uncover who is really pulling the strings within the Opposition - and why.

Your desk is the center of the investigation. Evidence can be freely rotated, flipped over, examined, and interacted with - whether that means lighting a cigarette, handling documents, or rewinding magnetic tapes as many times as you need.

Intercepted correspondence never reveals everything directly. You will learn to operate special decoding machines that make evidence analysis easier - but never obvious.

    1.2.1 Fixed translation export error

Hi, everyoneWith Friday's new localisation update adding several new languages, a small translations export bug was introduced that caused this big issue where some English fax entries got overwritten with Polish ones. The issue affected only the English version of the game. This hotfix (game version 1.2.1) fixes that. You don't need to create a new save to get the fix. Sorry for the inconvenience, we recommend you give our game a second chance if you were affected!

What Awaits, Aleksey? is available now!

Dear Players,After a long period of preparation, testing, fixes, reports, interrogations, decryptions, internal memos, and numerous procedures, we are proud to announce that “What Awaits, Aleksey?” is now available for purchase on Steam! Starting today, you may officially begin your service at the OKO Cipher Bureau as Aleksey - a junior cryptology analyst of the Republic. Intercepted evidence will arrive at your desk: photographs, case files, reports, intercepted correspondence, magnetic tape recordings, and messages requiring decryption. You will also be required to conduct field interviews. All of this serves one purpose: to uncover who exactly is hiding behind the aliases used by the Opposition. It will not be easy! Not every document will reveal its meaning right away. You will not be able to figure everything out in a single day. But do not worry - that is part of the process. Sometimes, a single detail noticed several days earlier can change the meaning of the entire investigation.\\ “What Awaits, Aleksey?” is a dystopian detective desk-thriller about working with documents, ciphers, suspicion, and consequences. It is a game about how something much larger can emerge from what seems like ordinary office routine - and how far a person can go when duty begins to mix with doubt. If you played the demo - thank you. Your feedback, comments, reports, and wishlists truly helped bring us to this moment. We took your opinions and suggestions to heart and implemented them in the full version of the game. You helped us finish this. Thank you for being with us throughout this entire process! If you have been waiting for the full version - your desk is ready. And if today is the first time you are hearing about What Awaits, Aleksey?, the OKO Bureau of Ciphers is pleased to inform you that recruitment has officially opened. Enjoy the game!
