About this game
800 years ago, the imperial house of Vandaleria was overthrown, with the throne taken up by False Emperors. The Nine have turned their backs on the Empire, which succumbed to corruption and conflict. After centuries of slow agony, it is a shadow of its former self. Only a true heir of the original bloodline can stop the darkness: A boy who just became a man, in a distant village on the fringes of the Empire.
Sages of Vandaleria is a retro-styled jRPG, inspired by classics of the genre. Combining tried-and-true action adventure mechanics and character progression with airship combat! Take to the skies on an epic adventure, to prove your worth to the Nine Gods and regain their favor to save the Empire from destruction - or let it plunge into the darkness forever!
Vandaleria was once a vast empire. Now, fractured under the rule of corrupt False Emperors, it is a land of deceit and corruption. As you travel, you’ll meet its people. Some will mock your quest, others will join your banner - or fight to keep the world as they prefer it to be. Still, some might even become your friends and loyal companions. You’ll need them to reach the nine corners of the world and reclaim the throne.
How you do it is up to you. Sages of Vandaleria is built around classic jRPG mechanics. Define your Emperor-to-be with a robust stat system and plenty of weapons and armor to choose from - including relics of a bygone age with tremendous power. Conquer dungeons, defeat bosses, solve puzzles to increase your power - then take to the skies aboard an airship and engage in high-stakes duels in the skies. All in real time, inspired by the legendary SNES Mode 7!
The path to victory and reclamation of the Empire will be long and fraught with danger. Perhaps the greatest challenge will be yourself: Though you try to win the favor of the gods, you are still human. You seek out the sages, the Gods grant their blessings, and your power grows. As friends become mere mortals, tools of your ascension - will you find the strength to cling to your convictions and resist the temptation? Or give in to the lust for power and bring about a birth of an age more terrible than anything that came before?

Sages of Vandaleria features a rich story of a young boy's quest to travel around the world and discover his place in it. Will he fulfill his destiny, reclaim his birthright, and reawaken the ancient power of the 9 Gods? Will he let power and ambition define his path? Or will love and friendship get in the way of his destiny? These are all choices the player must make throughout their adventure. You’ll meet numerous colorful characters along the way, a pirate captain out only for gold and for herself, a girl from a small village on the steppe who wants to make the world a better place, an Imperial Guard Captain who is a true believer in ancient prophecy, and many more! You’ll travel to 9 temples on your journey, solving puzzles, fighting monsters, learning magic, and collecting weapons. Your characters will grow and change along with you as you play the game, with the ability to swap out armor, shields, swords, and other weapons as you please! This game has been a labor of love for the last 9 years, and we are very happy to finally share it with you. The story of this game’s creation started all the way back in 2015, when our Founder Matthew was home from college for the holidays. His grandfather gave him an old sword, a silk banner emblazoned with a coat of arms, and a very old book, the handwritten diary of his namesake and great great great great grandfather. These few family heirlooms were just the beginning, they would lead Matthew on a journey of discovery culminating in stories of conquerors, kings, and caliphs, of ancestral greatness, medieval honor and bravery, but also murder, betrayal, intrigue, and excommunication.
