About this game
The evil aliens have arrived to the Solar System and are about to destroy all humans. Your main task is to destroy the evil alien mothership.
Silver Waffle is a shoot'em'up with spaceships and evil aliens with some RPG elements and first person activities, taking place in the Solar System. A mixture of game modes include flying in 20 planet levels viewed from side, flying in 20 space levels viewed from angle (top/behind), and walking inside 50+ procedurally generated building levels viewed from first-person on.
The planet/moon levels contain spaceports and other buildings that can be landed on, and some of the buildings can be entered in the first-person gamemode. In some of the buildings you will come across NPC's, some of them may be helpful or give you optional missions. You can also find items and spaceships of varying configuration within the spaceports. Evil alien spaceships will be lurking in the planet levels, and in some of the building levels you will encounter the evil aliens in person.
Travelling between planets and moons is done via temporary space levels. In these space levels you will encounter waves of evil alien spaceships until you reach the destination. The amount of evil aliens present in the space levels are tracked; the more you destroy them the less there will be next time. The previous planet/moon levels can always be returned back to. Travelling is limited; you can only travel to the neighbor planets and moons, for example from Earth you can travel to Venus, Moon, or Mars. There is no "fast travel" available, but you will be able to discover utilities to speed up the process.
The flying model of the spaceships is simple, arcade style, and while there is varying gravity (depending on planet) its effect to the spaceship can be nullified with one module. The anti-gravity module is immediately available when playing with the easy difficulty mode. Spaceships can be upgraded with modules of different types including weapons, defense systems, and other utilities. Each module has characteristics such as weight and power usage.
Research can be conducted to unlock new types of modules and other usable items, with over 50 research targets. Your player character can be levelled up with points distributed over skills. Resources are collected to advance the game, rebuild infrastructure, and manufacture new spaceships, modules, and items. Transporting the resources requires you to manage your limited inventory space.
You can choose from three difficulty settings when you start a new game. Depending on your choices during the playthrough, there may be an option to restart with increased difficulty.
This game is made by a single person "from scratch" using C++/SDL/OpenGL/OpenAL and some other libraries. Linux version is a native binary, not using Proton.

Silver Waffle v1.5 nods for mods
Silver Waffle v1.5 update brings support for mods The game now includes a built-in mod editor, from where you can create and edit your mods, and submit them to the Steam workshop. This initial version allows you to replace 3d-models and their collision shapes, images, shaders, and sounds. For more information about modding Silver Waffle see Docs/Modding.html in the installed files for the game. Modding competition A modding competition will be held, with Steam keys to Silver Waffle for prices as follows: 1st place: 5 keys 2nd place: 3 keys 3rd place: 2 keys Participanting to the contest requires submitting a mod, players can then vote on it, and the winners will be determined by the number of votes. Submitting a mod must be announced in a new thread on the General discussion group, one thread per mod. Include the name of your mod, and maybe a link to it, otherwise it's freeform what you want to say there. Votes are cast on the mod submit thread by replying in the thread, the contents of the reply does not matter, all replies count as +1 vote, one vote per individual. The mod submitter is automatically counted as one vote. All participants and voters must own the game when the results are calculated, this is verified by checking for the "mouse" icon in the relevant threads and replies. Multiple mods can be submitted by the same person. You must have the (copy)rights for the assets your mod contains, and the assets must be valid as per the Steam workshop terms of service. You can keep updating your mod after submitting it for the competition. I will send a temporary friend-invite in Steam for the winners to deliver the keys. Important dates Mod submit starts: immediately Mod submit ends: 16th of April 2025, at 13:00 UTC Voting ends: 23th of April 2025, at 13:00 UTC Results are calculated and announced: 10th of May 2025, at 13:00 UTCRead full article on Community Announcements (joyr)Patch NotesOfficial
