State of the Game 6 October 2024

State of the Game 6 October 2024 It's been a while since I have posted here to the Steam page about Worldsmith. I am hoping through this post to build expectations on what's to come. Worldsmith by Charles A. Debczak is currently in early development and still in Pre-Alpha. On a personal note, I am deployed overseas and am waiting until I get back to the States and can test the game on a different computer before I upgrade the release to "Alpha" which would be denoted by sending out keys to folks to test the game and provide feedback. This game is a passion project. Although it won't be free, I am not doing this for the money as I am satisfied by my real life employment and will likely be generous with giving out codes when that time comes. A reasonable expectation for an Alpha release is by March 2025. We'll see if I can deliver on that expectation or not. What to expect in Alpha release: Bugs & glitches No multiplayer The features on the Store page A bug reporting form to report bugs and glitches with a system for rewarding folks by mentions in the credits or implementation of their ideas into the game What to expect in the near future leading up to Alpha release: More blocks, items, mobs, weapons, generated structures, etc. The priority right now is fleshing out the game since many, but not all, core features have been implemented. My biggest concern however is confirming that the performance is good or improving the performance if it is not good. But I can only do that when I am back in the States and can properly test the game on something that is not this shitty, non-gaming laptop I brought out here with me on this deployment. A reminder of the development timeline Currently, the game is in Pre-Alpha. When Worldsmith is ready for testers, influencers, curators, and friends of the project, it will be in Alpha. When Worldsmith is ready for an initial player-base as is available for purchase on Steam, it will be in Beta. When the game is polished and includes all ...

    Worldsmith is now on Steam!

Worldsmith by Charles A. Debczak is now on Steam Worldsmith by Charles A. Debczak is a 2D open-world survival/adventure game where you write books to explore unique, procedurally-generated dimensions. It has a heavy focus on survival, but also features a creative mode where the player cannot die and has access to all blocks/items in-game. Current features include building, crafting, combat, player customization, and a modular spell-crafting system. On face value, this game may appear as what one may describe as a "2D Minecraft" but there is much more to be excited about. The entire premise of this game is that the player is able to create books that take them to procedurally-generated dimensions with each containing unique, procedurally-generated mobs. These dimensions also may have traits, such as being so hot where every creature exposed to the sky ignites in flames or, even worse, is actively being eaten away by what previous explorers have deemed as "disintegration." These dimensions also sometimes have sprawling randomly-generated structures for the player to explore. There is a somewhat-linear progression to the game in terms of collecting resources and progressing to different levels of equipment, tools, and weapons, but Worldsmith is entirely Sandbox and open-world. In this game, the adventure is whatever the player wants it to be! The world expands infinitely in both directions. The dimensions are also open-world in this regard. Worldsmith is a project that I began work on in late 2021 for fun. Due to the rigorous nature of my real-life job, I took an extended break from approximately March 2022 until November 2023. I have since continued working on features and look forward to the day it is ready for a full-release. Development Timeline There is no concrete development timeline for this project. I hope to have it available on the Steam Store for purchase no later than October 2025. That being said, it may be available sooner depending on how the developmen...
