Abilities, Splines, Minimaps and Odin Inspector | Devlog #2

Welcome back to another Revolocity devlog! In this update, I’m excited to share the latest advancements and features I've been working on for the game. Since the last devlog, we've gone from 69 to 95 commits, and there’s a lot to cover. Let’s dive into the improvements and new additions! Fixing the Ability System After the last devlog, I focused on ironing out issues with the ability system. There were bugs where abilities wouldn’t reset or cooldown properly, especially after the player died and returned to the main menu. Once these issues were fixed, I added new abilities to ensure everything worked smoothly. I discovered interesting use cases, like turning the pulse wave ability into a repulsion field or a gravity well by tweaking the settings. Streamlining Development with Odin Inspector I’ve expanded my use of the Odin Inspector asset, creating a custom window to automate repetitive tasks. This window allows me to toggle the enemy spawner, select and manipulate the player, load scenes, and interact with various UI elements. It’s been a massive time-saver and has improved my workflow significantly. Introducing Spline Systems I got sidetracked but inspired by the Unity spline package, creating a system that aligns with Revolocity’s focus on speed and momentum. I developed a prefab that acts as an interstellar highway, dragging players and enemies along its path. After fixing bugs where players could get stuck, I’m thrilled with how this feature enhances the game. New Environmental Features Although still in the early stages, I began redesigning some environmental elements. I created a spinner object to increase player spin and cannons to launch players and enemies. These elements are far from finished but already add an exciting dynamic to the game. Minimaps and Enemy Abilities I implemented a minimap system, though I’m still unsure of its utility due to the game’s hectic action. Feedback on this feature would be appreciated! Additionally, I refactored the ability...

    Revolocity Devlog - May 2024

Hey! 50+ of you have added Revolocity to your wishlist now which is amazing considering the store page isn't the best at the moment. That's the main issue with going live too early with your store page on an in development game - a lot of the footage and screenshots is subject to change! However, I'm closing in on finishing up the full "vertical slice" of the game, and then I can do a screenshot and trailer overhaul. For now, I thought I'd share this months devlog where I talk about the project:

Revolocity - Now Available to Wishlist

Hello! Thanks for stopping by, I thought I'd introduce myself and the game. I'm Dan, a game dev YouTuber, and Revolocity will be my first commercial game. You can see where the idea for the game came from in the above video. It initially started as a challenge to make a game in one hour which forced me to keep the scope very very low, and as I was developing it I was really enjoying the process. I ended up working on it for a week in the end and got it into quite a fun little project, before releasing it on Itch and calling it a day. The project has been sat untouched for over a year but I always look to it as the most complete game I'd made, because the scope was so low, in that week I got quite a lot of stuff actually done for it. Recently I've been wanting to actually RELEASE something finally, instead of lots of abandoned projects, so I figured I'd reopen this project and polish it up a bit more, and well here we are. I've been really enjoying working on this project, and I've got some fun things planned for it to turn it into more of a "proper" game, instead of a one week game jam project. You can follow along with the development as I go on YouTube, and if it looks like fun, then feel free to wishlist the game on Steam too :) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2762050/Revolocity/
